Who is the German tourist whose World Cup road trip through the American South is winning over the internet
Many foreigners are visiting the United States for the first time to watch their team play in the World Cup, and most are falling in love with America.
However, no one may be falling head over heels for the stars and stripes more than Freddy, who has been live-tweeting his fairy-tale experience in the United States since he landed.
So, who is he?

Freddy, whose X account profile picture is Cristiano Ronaldo and who has a German flag next to his name, flew in from Germany. He had a layover in Dublin, Ireland, before diving headfirst into American culture with his two friends.
In all the photos he has posted of himself, he has covered his face, giving people a front-row seat into his first experience with the United States.
He landed in New York, and then flew to Atlanta, where his journey began. Every single one of his posts is accompanied by a picture.
Freddy said the World Cup atmosphere was palpable, despite the first game in Atlanta being nine days away at the time of the post. While doing sightseeing, he was taken aback by how "green" Atlanta looked and said he felt like he was in a forest.

He then documented his first experience with American cuisine: Taco Bell. He called the fast-food chain "the holy land."
After taking in some "Stranger Things" filming locations, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, and a trip to the top of Stone Mountain, Freddy let his quickly growing fan base know that he was going to North Georgia.
On the trip he posted about his immense excitement at stopping in a Walmart, his awe at the houses when he was "passing through a town called Gainesville," and then his first-ever late-night Waffle House experience.
"Just had our first Waffle House experience at 1 a.m. Great food, great prices, and friendly staff 10/10, we will be coming back," Freddy posted.

After a transformative Waffle House experience, Freddy shared his experience on an alpine roller coaster in Helen, and his tubing experience down the Chattahoochee River. He regrettably did not get a locker, and his shoes were soaked.
After this time spent outdoors, Freddy enjoyed another American staple: Wendy’s.
He posted a picture of his order and then expressed his confusion about the modern soda fountain.
After his second trip to a fast-food establishment, he went back into Georgia to discover more of its beauty. He posted a video atop of Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s highest peak. Unfortunately for Freddy, it rained, and because his shoes were soaked from tubing, he was stuck wearing socks and slides in a rainstorm atop the mountain.
Freddy then departed Georgia and spent time in Tennessee. He went to a Chili’s in Chattanooga for the night and watched the NBA Finals. He saw the Spanish national team's hotel, but the team was out of town.

After Tennessee, Freddy embarked on a road trip to Houston for Germany’s game. He let the world know he made it to Alabama by posting a photo of a replica World Cup trophy on the road in front of the state line.
On his way to Auburn’s stadium for the friendly between Iceland vs. Argentina, he showered praise on a Good Samaritan.
"I love Americans. We were about to walk an hour to the stadium in the rain to save on an Uber, and the receptionist at the hotel we were parked in front of decided to drive us there," Freddy posted with a prayer emoji.
He called Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn the "craziest stadium I’ve ever been to."
"This is the most ‘The European mind can’t comprehend this’ moment of my life.’ One of my friends said, ‘Punch me five times tomorrow and I’ll still think this isn’t real.’"
Freddy was floored when "Swag Surfin’" blared through the speakers.
The German was even more taken aback at the discovery of Buc-ee’s and the sheer size of it, and loved the dinner he and his friends got from there at 1 a.m.
After driving through the night at Alabama, Freddy entered Florida, the fourth state of the trip. The heat hit the German like a ton of bricks, "It’s so hot we need to get to the beach immediately!!!" He posted in all caps.
In Florida, he discovered a restaurant that shared his name, "Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers."
On the road trip, Freddy revealed he discovered country music star Ella Langley on the radio. He called Langley the "soundtrack of our trip."
Freddy then made it to the beach, and stayed the night in Fairhope, Alabama, where he marveled at the place’s beauty.
The soccer fan then discovered another American specialty, Bass Pro Shops.
"We found another surreal place on our way. I know some people will say I’m too positive about everything I see, but this place was crazy. They had a shooting range in the store."

He then took in the opening match of the World Cup at Buffalo Wild Wings.
During their trip through Louisiana, Freddy discovered just how viral he had gone when the radio station he was listening to referenced his posts and played a Langley song for them.
They didn’t stop often through Louisiana, but did make it to New Orleans, where they once again enjoyed Waffle House.
In New Orleans, they were given a tour of the New Orleans Pelicans' and New Orleans Saints' facilities, and they posted a picture with Tyler Shough.

In the swamps of Louisiana, they discovered an alligator. However, the big news came a day later: They are going to get to meet Langley herself at a concert this upcoming Thursday.

Still in Louisiana, they got a firsthand experience of Bourbon Street. Their tours didn’t end with the Saints and Pelicans, as they also got to see LSU’s facilities and Tiger Stadium.
Freddy’s life-changing crash course in America continued with a stop at Raising Cane's. He posted a picture of a "Welcome to Louisiana" sign, with a welcome note directed to him.
They finally made it to Texas, where they appropriately played Langley’s "Choosin’ Texas" on their way into the Lone Star State.
However, the surprises for Freddy and his friends were not done yet. Houston Texans legend J.J. Watt got them a hotel room, and left plenty of gifts for the German.
After staying in luxury courtesy of Watt, they got to see Germany play and win. Germany dominated Curacao 7-1, and Freddy was impressed with another American stadium.
The impromptu tours did not end with college campuses and professional sports franchises. They met with the Houston Police Department and ate "typical Texan BBQ together."
In Houston, Freddy and his friends unlocked a new sport when they attended their first baseball game Monday night between the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers. The fairy tale of a trip continued when they met the mayor of Houston at the game, who gave them a note.
Freddy’s trip isn’t over, but the love he has received here in America has only just begun.

Well, everyone, true love is dead. Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo are calling it quits.
Everything I've ever learned about this couple has been against my will. Back before Jelly Roll lost nearly 300 pounds, he said on a podcast that Bunnie was allowed to cheat on him because he was fat. Then, she did a whole podcast talking about their open marriage. Then there was another podcast where she cried about him cheating on her even though she raised his kids and helped him get clean.

All this and I still have no idea if her name is pronounced Xo (like "Zo") or X-O (like "hugs and kisses"). Maybe some things are better left a mystery.
Rough day to be Bunnie, though. Not only is she getting divorced, but she got called out by a famous internet troll who goes by the name of Goob. If you're unfamiliar with Goob, he likes to scan the profiles of fitness influencers and call them out for Photoshopping and Facetuning all their photos.
Well, Bunnie claimed she's never edited her photos to make herself look skinnier. And Goob determined that was a lie.
Then, she doubled down — threatened to sue Goob for using her picture. Unfortunately for her, that is not how the internet works.
Anyway, don't sue me, Bunnie.

And who knew the Japanese fans would be such a dang delight? Not only do they come equipped with their own trash bags to clean up after themselves, but they're also hella funny.

A mildly related tangent: One time I wrote a heartwarming story about a Nagasaki atomic bomb survivor meeting her heroes (Shohei Ohtani, Roki Sasaki and Tomoyuki Sugano). She was a sweet little 100-year-old Japanese lady, and the videos of her fangirling over the MLB players were adorable.
Shortly afterward, I got a scathing email from a reader who told me that story was a slap in the face to all current and former U.S. military personnel and that I should be ashamed of myself for saying something nice about a Nagasaki survivor after the Japanese bombed us first in World War II.

Last week, I delivered the sad news that my German Shepherd murdered a baby bunny (an actual bunny, not Xo) in my backyard. Turns out, it had escaped from a nest in our fire pit. So all week long, I worked hard to protect the other bunnies in the nest — making sure Rocky wasn't out there unattended, that he stayed away from the fire pit, that mama bunny was still coming back to nurse.
Well, wouldn't you know I left my husband home alone with the dog ONE time, and Rocky slipped out and got the rest of the nest. Bunnies never stood a chance. I gave my husband the cold shoulder the rest of the night. I'm still distraught over it.
"He's a dog, Amber," he tells me. "That's what they do."
And apparently Gene in the Rock agrees with him, because he emailed me a recipe for German rabbit stew: Hasenpfeffer. This is similar to what my Dutch grandma used to make. Unlike in parts of Europe, when you make it yourself you don't need to ask to see their rabbits with the heads on (to make sure they aren't serving you cat). Tell Rocky I said, "Go git 'em."

Fred H. Writes: Buzzie was a Bichon/Shih Tzu cross dog who crossed the Rainbow Bridge several years ago. Buzzie knew he was a cow dog. We had Lucy a black mouth cur dog and a great cow dog. Lucy and Buzzie became best friends. Lucy had a unique herding style. Buzzie mimicked Lucy exactly. When Lucy was working a cow I kept track of where she was because she would go through anything including me to get the job done. But she never came close to running over Buzzie. This was one of the greatest things I've ever seen and I'm the only one who saw them.

Jelly Roll, Bunnie Xo hinted at divorce weeks before the news broke with cryptic lyrics and missing rings
Weeks before news broke that Jelly Roll had filed for divorce from Bunnie Xo, the pair had seemingly been dropping subtle hints of marriage woes. From cryptic song lyrics to ditched wedding rings, the signs were there — they just went largely unnoticed.
Jelly Roll filed for divorce on May 18 in Williamson County, Tennessee, according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital. The 41-year-old country star listed the date of separation as May 9 and cited irreconcilable differences.
On May 20, two days after Jelly Roll's filing, Bunnie took to TikTok to share some intuitive thoughts.
"Women’s intuition when that s--- don’t add up" she captioned the video.

Representatives for Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
Bunnie, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, and Jelly Roll tied the knot in August 2016 during a whirlwind Las Vegas ceremony, after meeting the year prior.
The "Stripped Down" author has previously opened up about their up-and-down relationship, in her memoir "Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic."

In the memoir, Bunnie also recalled learning about the alleged ex-fling.

Looking back, Bunnie told Fox News Digital there were many reasons her initial "fairy tale" had become a nightmare.

"It’s not so much what was going on in our marriage," she said. "It was more of my husband had a hard time letting go of the past. I had a hard time letting go of the past. We also didn’t really think the relationship was going to work.
"I think a lot of it boiled down to self-worth on both parts. My husband didn't think he'd ever meet a woman who really loved him for him and just wanted to see him succeed without some of them wanting to change him.... And I had brought so much baggage into the relationship."

After intense couples' therapy, the pair eventually came to terms with how to properly communicate with one another.
"We ended up coming back together," said Bunnie. "We were like, ‘I want to grow. I don’t want to be this person. I choose you. I’m going to become everything that you’ve ever wanted me to be.’"
"I’m going to be a wife, and he’s going to become everything I ever wanted him to be; a husband and a father to the kids," she shared. "We just made that decision from then on to just be better humans and to break every generational curse that we had ever inherited. I was ready for a change. So was he. So we set out together to heal and grow together."
"We learned that marriage is not one-size-fits-all," Bunnie reflected. "Each person and each relationship is completely different than the next person’s. But you do have to wake up and choose that person even on days that you don’t like them."

Imagine a time in U.S. history when politicians facing each other for a seat in Congress would openly root for teams besides the U.S. to win the World Cup, especially when it's being played on U.S. soil.
We're living during those times.
Just when you thought you'd heard it all from the Democrat Party, along comes Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who is seeking re-election to his sixth term in Congress and fellow Lib Darializa Chevalier, who is seeking her first trip to Washington, D.C. They're currently battling for New York's 13th Congressional seat.
During a segment on NYC TV station PIX 11, the two were asked a simple World Cup question. This is as big of a softball as you're going to get in politics.

"Who are you rooting for?" the host asked, while discussing the World Cup. Remember, Espaillat currently receives an annual salary of $174,000 as a member of Congress. Chevalier is seeking that salary and the power that comes along with it. Surely one will say the USA, right?
"Ah, I like Mexico," Espaillat said with a big, proud smile on his face.
Undaunted by that answer, and not sensing she might want to show some loyalty to her country, Chevalier, who is being backed by New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, stayed true to her lunatic liberal roots when it was her turn to answer. "I'm rooting for Senegal," she said. Short and sweet.

Son of Mango fashion billionaire heard tearfully telling 911 operator his father had 'fallen down a ravine'
The son of a billionaire fashion mogul whose clothing company sells apparel across the United States was heard tearfully telling cops his dad had "fallen" in a 911 call released Monday.
"I need help, my father has fallen!" Jonathan Andic is heard in audio obtained by the Spanish outlet El País. "We are in Collbató, he has fallen down a ravine, please send an ambulance, send someone," according to a translation from Spanish.
Andic, who is the son of the late fashion mogul Isak Andic, tells the operator that they're on their way to the Salnitre Caves, and as the operator asks him more questions, Jonathan says, "I don't see him, he doesn't answer."
Isak Andic, 71, was hiking with his son in the mountains near Barcelona when he fell about 500 feet down a cliff and died in December 2024. His 45-year-old son was the only witness. Jonathan was arrested in May as authorities announced they were investigating Isak's death as a possible homicide.

According to Catalunya Ràdio, the phone call is one of the primary pieces of evidence the defense will provide in the case.

Jonathan, who took over the global fashion empire with his sisters after their dad’s death, was released on one million euros bail and ordered to surrender his passport while remaining in Spain during the investigation, Reuters reported.
The younger Andic has denied wrongdoing, and the family has maintained his innocence.

"There is no legitimate evidence against him, nor will any be found," the Andic family said in a statement, according to Reuters.
The fatal fall was initially treated as an accident, but now authorities have launched a homicide investigation.
Isak, who was born in Istanbul, moved to Catalonia in the northeast of Spain in the 1960s and founded Mango in 1984. He built it into a global group seen as a rival to Zara.
Isak was considered one of Spain’s richest businessmen and built Mango into one of Europe’s largest clothing retailers with a presence in more than 100 countries.

At the time of his death, he was non-executive chairman of Mango with a net worth of $4.5 billion according to Forbes

Republicans bat down bid to handcuff Trump’s war powers as peace deal nears
Senate Republicans narrowly halted another attempt to handcuff President Donald Trump's war authority in Iran as a peace deal begins to take shape.
The latest failed war-powers resolution, this time from Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., comes after Trump signed a memorandum of understanding with the Iranian government that could lead to an end to the war. While Congress is still in the dark on the details of the deal, Republicans still stood behind the president Tuesday.
Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., who has led the Democrats’ war powers efforts for the last several months, argued that while a possible deal was a good thing, it appeared the U.S. and Iran would be headed to an "intermission" in fighting as both sides hammered out the final details of a longer peace deal.

"An intermission is a great time to do what we should have done before this war, which is have the consultation with Congress that the Constitution requires," Kaine said. "Why restart a war if we haven't done our job?"
Still, Warnock’s resolution failed despite a previous effort advancing in the Senate last month when a cohort of Senate Republicans joined nearly all Senate Democrats to rebuke the war. That same group, Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, Bill Cassidy, R-La., Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Rand Paul, R-Ky., joined all Democrats to vote for the resolution.
But absences on both sides of the aisle helped the GOP in their effort to give Trump more runway to hammer out a deal to end the war.

Senate Foreign Relations Chair James Risch, R-Idaho, argued that Democrats were effectively trying to "help Iran" with Democrats' war powers efforts, and he countered that if the resolution passed, Iran would back out of any forthcoming peace deal.
"If a miracle happened, a miracle happened, and this passed, got through the Senate, got through the House, and the president signed it — if that miracle happened, do you think Iran would sign the deal that has been negotiated? Of course not," Risch said.

Meanwhile, Congress is still waiting for details of the deal, which as of Tuesday, had yet to materialize publicly or behind closed doors in the upper chamber.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said he still had not been briefed on the matter. When asked if it was normal for Thune and others to request these kinds of briefings from the administration, Thune said, "Since I've been in this job, we haven't had this issue, so I don't know the answer to that."
"My assumption is that it's a function of, at some point, they understand they're going to have to, I think they've intimated as much, that they've got to get this in front of us," he said. "And hopefully, that'll happen sooner rather than later. But you know, obviously it sounds like they're not going public with it until later in the week, so we'll see."
Some Democrats, on the other hand, are contending that early reports of the deal appear to favor Iran more than the U.S.
Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., said, "It’s essentially a surrender."
"But I think that's the only play we can make at this point. We have to end this war, stop wasting money, stop killing Americans and civilians, stop driving a crisis," Murphy said. "So, it's a bad deal, but he's not gonna get a better deal. So, we just have to accept the humiliation."
15 Antifa radicals indicted, 12 arrested in sweeping federal probe into Minneapolis anti-ICE operations
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota on Tuesday announced that 15 Antifa members have been indicted for their alleged roles in conspiring to hinder federal immigration enforcement operations in Minneapolis earlier this year.
The suspects, 12 of whom are in custody, are all charged with conspiracy to impede or injure a federal officer, according to a 94-page criminal complaint, and some are charged with further crimes. Federal prosecutors allege that each suspect took part in a conspiracy to obstruct federal immigration enforcement officers, including ICE personnel, through force, intimidation and threats.
The suspects are alleged members of the Antifa cell Direct Action Minnesota Network (DAMN), a radical far-left group accused of coordinating operations against federal immigration officers.
Federal prosecutors maintain that the group use Signal chats to organize and carry out rapid response operations including coordinating street blockades, tracking federal vehicles, surveilling the ICE field office at the federal Whipple Building and other activities meant to stop immigration officials from conducting their business.

The government says that DAMN served as the hub for participants to share intelligence, plan actions, recruit volunteers and assign roles.

ANTI-ICE MINNEAPOLIS AGITATORS SET UP CHECKPOINT TO TRACK FEDERAL AGENTS
Isaac Sant is portrayed by prosecutors as one of the ringleaders of the conspiracy who allegedly organized meetings between anti-ICE factions, delivered shields and other equipment for "direct actions" against ICE and maintained a database of suspected federal immigration vehicles by tracking license plates.
He also allegedly coordinated "commuters" to follow federal immigration officials.
On May 4, according to the indictment, Sant personally followed a federal immigration officer from the Whipple Building in Minneapolis — a hub of anti-ICE activities — across state lines to Hudson, Wisconsin, leading to the interstate stalking charge.
William Morgan, the only suspect charged with four crimes, is also accused of interstate stalking for allegedly following a federal immigration officer on May 12 from the Whipple Building to near the officer's home in Hudson.
Three days later, Morgan allegedly committed two more crimes by confronting an agent who was conducting an interview and physically assaulting him. He later was accused of kicking a federal vehicle, causing $1,000 in property damage, the complaint claims.
Natasha Rakotz was charged with assault on a federal officer resulting in bodily injury for allegedly driving her car into the path of a federal agent, striking and injuring him — similarly to how in a January incident in Minneapolis Renee Good was shot dead during an altercation where she ran her car into a federal immigration officer.
Kyle Wagner has been in custody since February, after encouraging followers to take up arms against federal agents. More charges were announced against him during Tuesday's press conference.

On Jan. 8, 2026, Wagner posted a video warning ICE agents, "We're f---ing coming for you."
Prosecutors allege he urged followers to "get your guns," and suggested identifying agents even if it had to be done "at the barrel of a gun."
President Donald Trump declared Antifa to be a terrorist organization last year.
"Today's charges and arrests reflect a broad federal effort to address organized, lawless behavior, which seeks to disrupt the execution of federal law, endanger law enforcement, and, importantly, endanger the very communities that these defendants falsely claim to be protecting," U.S. Attorney Daniel Roden said in a Tuesday press conference announcing the charges.

He emphasized that the defendants have not been arrested for speech — which is protected by the First Amendment — but for alleged criminal actions.
Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Michael McCarthy echoed that sentiment.
"Peaceful protest is a protected right and a cornerstone of our democracy. We respect and defend that right," he said. "However, there's a clear line that cannot be crossed when protest turns into rioting, violence or criminal activity, it becomes unlawful and it will not be tolerated."
"Working closely with the U.S. Attorney's Office, our investigation uncovered extensive planning, material support and coordinated attacks against federal personnel and facilities. Our teams have worked tirelessly conducting surveillance, reviewing camera footage, and analyzing large volumes of information to identify those responsible."

Vance rejects 'The View' hosts claiming 'Black history has been erased' by Trump administration
Co-hosts of "The View" claimed Black history is being dismantled as they interviewed Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday, but struggled to name specific examples, leaving Vance unconvinced.
After having been criticized by the show for years, Vance had a measured but tense interview with the co-hosts of "The View" that ranged from debates about immigration enforcement to the release of the Epstein files. One major hot topic, however, was the hosts claiming that the Trump administration and conservatives are dismantling Black history.
"What did Black people do to this administration that has allowed it to really stigmatize folks of color? And you know how hard it is. You have folks of color in your family," co-host Whoopi Goldberg said. "So when you… see, you know, things, the Emmett Till stuff coming down, or them doing all kinds of removal of information of Black heroes, how do you — how does that sit with you?"
"What exactly are you talking about?" Vance asked, asking for "her actual point."

They both then began to speak over each other as Vance asked for specific examples.
Goldberg did not provide context for what "Emmett Till stuff" was, but she may have been referring to monuments like the Emmett Till and the Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument, sites designated as national monuments by former President Joe Biden, which may be at risk amid the Trump administration’s DEI budget cuts. Emmett Till was a Black youth who was lynched at age 14 in Mississippi in 1955.
"In a lot of the museums, just, there’s so many, I just, I, you know," Goldberg said as she failed to name specifics. "Where they're taking down the actual history that happened in this country. Slavery happened. All kinds of stuff happened, and it seems that it has been very easy for this administration to remove that and also to denigrate Black folks who have worked their behinds off to get this American dream."
"How do you — I mean, you know better," Goldberg said as her audience applauded.

"I think the story you are talking about is where, you know, allegedly the administration is holding back the appointments of people based on skin color," Vance suggested.
Co-host Sunny Hostin replied that she is talking about a host of things, such as: "Black history getting erased from public spaces, Black voter districts are being dismantled, Black leaders are being sidelined from our ranks. Where do Americans of color fit in this vision? Because it doesn’t seem like we fit."
Co-host Ana Navarro added that the overwhelming majority of refugees that Trump has allowed into the country since October have been White South Africans.
"First of all, I’m very skeptical of that number, because we have a lot of immigration pathways in the United States of America," he responded, touting that he believed in uniting America as a big coalition, including those who did not vote for him and Trump.
As an example of how the administration is pursuing policies that help people of all races, he spoke about the anti-crime crackdown in Washington, D.C.

"Look at Washington, D.C. One of the most democratic and one of the Blackest by share of population, Blackest cities… has seen a radical decrease in violent crimes and sexual assaults and in murders," he said. "We have tried to take the crime issue seriously, in part because we believe everybody – whether you are Black or White or rich or poor – deserves to live in a safe neighborhood."
Goldberg rejected this answer, saying she is not asking about crime, but about "human rights."
"Black history has been erased from public spaces," Hostin said.
"Black history is not erased from public spaces," Vance replied.
"That is true!" Hostin argued.
"That is not right," Vance said. "I’m telling you, we celebrate Black history, we celebrate all American history in this administration. You guys might be skeptical of this, but I promise you it's true.
Major League Baseball faces backlash for its stance on Christians writing Bible verses on Pride caps
Major League Baseball stirred a hornet's nest it probably had no idea it stepped on when its chief communications officer let the media know the Christian San Francisco Giants pitchers who inscribed Bible verses on their Pride Night caps last week had been "warned" about their "violations."
The message was meant to be routine and succinct that uniform violations would be dealt with as others typically are by MLB: a warning, then fines, then something more intrusive if it continues.
Except this case isn't routine and the league seems to know it caused itself some trouble. That's why on Tuesday, MLB issued a follow-up statement:
"To be clear, this routine verbal warning not to wear the hat in future games is not disciplinary and had absolutely nothing to do with the content of the message," the league said in its follow. "We respect players’ right to free expression. However, writing of any kind, with any message, is prohibited per Major League Baseball’s uniform regulations which provides in part that, ‘(a) player may not write, attach, affix, embroider or otherwise display nicknames or messages on apparel or playing equipment…’
"We have given the same warning numerous times in the past to players for messages such as ‘Dad,’ ‘Happy Mother’s Day, I Love Mom’ and names of family members."
Too late.
The clarification tones down the initial statement but doesn't change its intent, which is to keep the Christians from showing their disagreement with Pride Night. And that obvious intent has reached a segment of the public that simply doesn't abide Pride Night and supports the Christians.
DODGERS BREAK OUT ANNUAL PRIDE NIGHT HATS, DRAWING BRUTAL REACTIONS
That root issue is that some people do not agree with Pride Night for myriad reasons, just like they probably wouldn't agree with heterosexual night, or any other night of sexual "inclusion."
That root issue also includes the Giants pitchers who are Christians and reject, for religious reasons, the idea they must not only comply with, but endorse, Pride Night and its rainbow signage messaging — all of which is counter to the God they worship and Bible they use as His life manual.
And now, to MLB's chagrin, this uniform issue has bled over to a not-small chunk of the American public.
So, baseball has committed an error.
After the league put the Giants pitchers on notice, the reaction from fans, politicians, even celebrities, was not what baseball needs.
Actor Rob Schneider amplified MLB's reaction to the caps controversy and offered to pay fines that "any" Christian player wearing a Bible verse on his uniform incurs.
And the cringe moment for baseball: "MLB is anti-Christian," Schneider posted.
Actor Kevin Sorbo agreed with Schneider and similarly volunteered to help pay fines.
"Happy to chip in with you on this," he messaged Schneider.
And with that, Sorbo reached his 2.6 million followers on X and Schneider reached his 2.2 million followers on the platform. Those millions might now feel a certain way about Major League Baseball that they didn't feel last week.
Senator Josh Hawley (R, Missouri) fired off a letter to MLB Commissioner Robert Manfred in which he expresses his "grave concern" about the matter and further states, "you must answer for what appears to be a pattern of discrimination within MLB against baseball players who profess their Christian faith."
Hawley is demanding MLB produce materials that would allow his office to review the sport for review within the Senate Judiciary Committee purview.
Those materials include ...
"MLB has a sweetheart deal from the federal government," Hawley told Fox News Digital. "They play by different rules than any other business in America. But now MLB is using its power to target Christians and trample free speech. It’s anti-American. And MLB needs to course correct immediately."
Baseball needs this investigation and attention like it needs a 105 MPH fastball to the jaw.
Baseball was once the national pastime.
Now, it has needlessly painted itself as a villain in the eyes of potentially millions of people. Conservative pundits and websites have amplified MLB's initial statement and called the league intolerant, bigoted and divisive.
So everything that is opposite to what baseball hopes its Pride Night celebration should be has turned against the MLB. It looks like an organization that forces conformity regardless of its players' religious beliefs.
Major League Baseball is being painted as an inclusive league that is quite willing to exclude its Christian players.
This, by the way, is new regardless of MLB's Tuesday statement stating nothing is new.
In June of 2023, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw did the same exact thing the pitchers on the Giants did last week. He wrote "Gen 9:12-13" on his Dodgers Pride Night cap. That Bible passage contains God's covenant message to humankind that He would never again send a flood to wipe out the population of the Earth, no matter how wicked it became.
God sent a rainbow to seal His covenant and assure everyone.
Giants pitcher Sam Hentges wore his usual Giants cap instead of the Pride cap. Landen Roupp, JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker did exactly what Kershaw did, except they were "warned."
The rebuke flies in the face of tolerance — you know, one of the things Pride Night is supposed to be about.
