CDC reports 21st cruise ship norovirus outbreak this year, with nearly 100 people infected
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed another norovirus outbreak aboard a cruise ship.
Aida Cruises’ AIDAdiva cruise ship was hit with a norovirus outbreak that sickened nearly 100 passengers during its Nov. 10–Dec. 16 voyage.
The cruise notified the CDC of the outbreak on Nov. 30, according to the agency’s report.

The vessel departed from Hamburg, Germany, and was heading to England, the U.S., Mexico and Costa Rica, according to CruiseMapper.
Ninety-five passengers and six crew reported diarrhea and vomiting, the CDC's data shows.
Over 2,000 passengers, plus 640 crew members, were on board.
In response to the outbreak, Aida Cruises said it increased cleaning and disinfection efforts across the ship. It also isolated sick passengers and crew, and collected stool samples for testing.

"Seasonal illness peaks between November and April, and the AIDAdiva report reflects infection patterns on land," an AIDA spokesperson told USA TODAY.
"Therefore, we’ve added more hygiene protocols onboard, and cases are already going down."
The cruise line also consulted with CDC Vessel Sanitation Program officials about sanitation procedures and case reporting.

Scott Weisenberg, M.D., medical director of the NYU Langone Infectious Disease Associates and the NYU Travel Medicine Program, previously told Fox News Digital that the virus is highly contagious — and that it can spread quickly in crowded settings such as cruise ships.

"If people have acute vomiting, they should avoid public areas, since even if they don't touch anything, the virus can spread through the air," he said.
Weisenberg also noted that proper hygiene plays a key role in preventing transmission. Shared surfaces can easily become contaminated, putting anyone who touches them at risk of infection.
He added that washing hands with soap and water offers better protection than using alcohol-based sanitizers.

This latest incident adds to a growing number of norovirus outbreaks reported on cruise ships this year.
There have now been a total of 21 outbreaks, according to the CDC.

Murdaugh trial court clerk pleads guilty to showing sealed crime scene photos to photographer
A former South Carolina court clerk pleaded guilty Monday in connection with showing sealed court exhibits related to the murder trial of disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh to a photographer and lying about it in court.
Mary Rebecca "Becky" Hill, who served as the court clerk in Colleton County, pleaded guilty to four charges — obstruction of justice and perjury for showing a reporter photographs that were sealed court exhibits and then lying about it, plus two counts of misconduct in office for taking bonuses and promoting a book she wrote on the trial through her public office.
"There is no excuse for the mistakes I made. I’m ashamed of them and will carry that shame the rest of my life," Hill said in a statement read to the court.
She was sentenced to three years of probation.

Her sentence would have been much harsher had evidence surfaced that she tampered with the murder trial, Judge Heath Taylor told Hill.
During Murdaugjh's murder trial, Hill was responsible for taking care of the jury, overseeing exhibits and assisting the judge. Murdaugh was eventually convicted of murdering his wife and son after a six-week trial, which drew nationwide attention.
Murdaugh's lawyers said Hill tried to influence jurors to vote guilty and that she was biased against Murdaugh because of her book.

Solicitor Rick Hubbard told the judge that a journalist informed investigators that Hill showed graphic crime scene photos to several media members.
He did not name the journalist.
The photos were posted online, and the metadata from the images matched a time when Hill's courthouse key card indicated she was inside the locked room where the photos were kept, Hubbard said.
Hill resigned in March 2024. One of the charges against her stemmed from money prosecutors said she took for herself. She brought a check to court on Monday to repay nearly $10,000.
Meanwhile, Murdaugh is also serving a prison sentence for stealing money from his family's law firm and client settlements.

Trump to unleash $12B farm rescue as China trade reset hits US growers
President Donald Trump is poised to roll out a $12 billion farm aid package to support farmers, according to the White House.
The aid package will provide up to $11 billion toward the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) new Farmer Bridge Assistance Program, which is designed to provide single payments to row crop farmers, while the remaining $1 billion will go to farmers whose crops do not qualify for the program.
Further details will be hashed out as the USDA continues to evaluate market conditions, according to the White House.
The president is expected to unveil the new aid package at a Monday roundtable at the White House. Those expected to appear at the event include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, as well as corn, soybean, rice and other types of farmers.
The announcement comes as the U.S. and China have gone head-to-head on trade negotiations in 2025, and after China reigned in its soybean purchases from the U.S. amid ongoing tariff negotiations between Beijing and Washington, D.C.

However, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in South Korea in October, where the two hashed out a series of agreements concerning trade. Specifically, Trump said he agreed to cut tariffs on Chinese imports by 10% — reducing the rate from 57% to 47% — because China said it would cooperate with the U.S. on addressing the U.S. fentanyl crisis.
Since those talks, China has started to boost its purchases of soybeans again. China purchased at least 840,000 metric tons of soybeans for delivery in December and January, Reuters reported in November. That purchase marked the largest shipment since at least January, Reuters reported.
Meanwhile, Bessent said that China so far is upholding its end of the bargain on the trade deal, including provisions to buy 12 million tons of soybeans by the end of February 2026.

"China is on track to keep every part of the deal," Bessent said at The New York Times Dealbook Summit Wednesday.
Trump is helping the agriculture industry by "negotiating new trade deals to open new export markets for our farmers and boosting the farm safety net for the first time in a decade," White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a Monday statement to Fox News Digital.
This isn’t the first time Trump has issued an aid package to farmers. When Trump’s first administration rolled out tariffs, China issued their own retaliatory tariffs that cost the federal government billions of dollars in government aid to farmers.
Bloomberg News first reported the aid package Sunday.

The College Football Playoff bracket was unveiled on Sunday, and officials sparked controversy when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were left out despite only having two losses – one to the Miami Hurricanes and the other to the Texas A&M Aggies.
Both the Hurricanes and Aggies made the field of 12. Miami leapfrogged Notre Dame in the final ranking despite the Fighting Irish being in the field when the penultimate rankings were released. Neither team had a conference championship game to play before the official field was released.
The debate over Notre Dame and Miami was one to be had over the last few weeks. Who would get into the Playoff? Miami had the head-to-head overall advantage.

Former Notre Dame star quarterback Joe Theismann told Fox News Digital he was in "disbelief" when he saw the Fighting Irish outside of the bracket. He added that pundits talking about the College Football Playoff are missing one question: How does a three-loss Alabama Crimson Tide team get into the postseason?
"How could they be so wrong? I just find it hard to believe that you’re gonna put a three-loss team in the playoffs," he said. "Miami going in? All right. Notre Dame should’ve been in. Now all of a sudden you’re gonna turn the conversation into head-to-head competition in the first game of the year? Well, what about Alabama being beat by Florida State the first game of the year? Did nobody bring that up? Was that not part of the conversation? I just think it’s so wrong."
Ultimately, Theismann felt bad for head coach Marcus Freeman and the players that he coaches and pointed to Notre Dame not having a bad loss.
The Fighting Irish lost to the Hurricanes and Aggies by a combined four points. Alabama, on the other hand, was throttled by Florida State in the first game of the season and then lost to the Oklahoma Sooners by two.

Alabama made it to the SEC Championship, but lost by 21 points to Georgia.
"I feel like I’m a person who tries to really be objective when it comes to analyzing situations," Theismann said. "Alabama being in this makes no sense."
College Football Playoff Committee Chair Hunter Yurachek, who is also the athletic director at Arkansas, which also plays in the SEC, defended Alabama’s spot as the No. 9-ranked school during the selection show. He said the Crimson Tide’s "body of work" was enough to get in.
"In spite of their performance yesterday in the conference championship, they deserved to say in that nine spot," he said.
Yurachek added that the committee flipped Miami over Notre Dame after BYU lost to Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship, 34-7.
"Once we moved Miami ahead of BYU, then we had that side-by-side comparison that everybody had been hungry for, Notre Dame and Miami," he said. "And when you look at those two teams on paper, and they are almost equal, on their schedule strength, common opponents, results against common opponents, but the one metric we had to fall back on was the head-to-head."
Tulane and James Madison were the other conference champions to get into the field. Duke, the ACC champions, were not selected.
Notre Dame decided to forgo an opportunity to play in a bowl game after being left out of the College Football Playoff. Theismann said he had no issue with the decision.
"Not at all," he told Fox News Digital. "I respect and admire the decision."

Charlotte residents say they feel less safe as city faces second transit stabbing
Two in three Charlotte, North Carolina, residents say they feel less safe today than they did a year ago, according to a recent survey, as the city reels from two violent train stabbings.
More than 930 people responded to a survey that the Queen City recently completed before hiring its new police chief, Stella Patterson. Residents overwhelmingly said they want a proactive police force, not a reactive one, with 66% saying they feel less safe.
The results come as Charlotte contends with another stabbing on its light rail system, months after the stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska.
On Friday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to a call regarding assault with a deadly weapon. When they arrived, they found the victim, identified as Kenyon Kareem-Shemar Dobie, with a stab wound, according to warrants.

Oscar Solarzano, 33, of Honduras, was arrested after the stabbing and charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with serious injury, breaking/entering a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon and intoxicated/disruptive behavior, according to multiple Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sources and arrest warrants obtained by Fox News Digital.
CMPD noted Dobie was in critical but stable condition when he was taken to a hospital.
The victim told WRAL News that he saw Solarzano yelling at an older woman before Solarzano handed his bike to another passenger and said: "I'm about to show you who I really am."
"I wasn't trying to be a macho man," Dobie said in a TikTok post from his hospital room. "But what I won't allow is you to attack random people for no reason, especially the elderly."
Dobie said he jumped up and told Solarzano to leave everyone alone. He said Solarzano then grabbed his hands and stabbed him as he tried to grab him back.
On Monday morning, Solarzano appeared in court, where he was denied bond.
According to court documents, reviewed by Fox News Digital, Solarzano broke into a railroad car "with the intent to commit a felony," while carrying a large fixed-blade knife.
While intoxicated, he challenged Dobie to a fight, cursing and shouting at others using "unintelligible and slurred words," according to court documents.
He was booted from the country by the Trump administration in March 2018 on a deportation order and reentered illegally during the Biden administration at the Texas border in March 2021, DHS sources said.

Solarzano was deported a second time by the Biden administration and reentered illegally as a got-away at an unknown time and location.
Solarzano has a prior conviction for robbery in the U.S. and prior arrests for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and false ID, DHS sources said.
Court records indicate he had known aliases, including Solarzano-Garcia, Oscar Herardo and Kevin Garcia.
The stabbing attack comes months after Zarutska, 23, was fatally stabbed on a LYNX Blue Line light rail while on her way home from work from a local pizzeria shop.
Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, who is accused of killing Zarutska, was charged with violence against a railroad carrier and mass transportation system resulting in death, a capital offense under federal law.
Brown had a history of violent crime, including assaults and robberies, and had also been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Yet he was still free and walking the streets.

Cheryl Hines says political criticism is 'next level' compared to Hollywood backlash
Actress Cheryl Hines, wife of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., addressed the "next level" criticism she has faced since her transition from Hollywood to the political arena, highlighted by her recent appearance on ABC's "The View."
"In Hollywood... I didn't experience that [level of criticism]," she said Monday on "Fox & Friends." "It would be on a different level, right? You have a movie, it comes out, it's joyful, everybody's talking about it. There might be some chatter of, 'oh, it's not a good film' or this or that. But politics is next level."
The "Unscripted" author sparred with ABC's Sunny Hostin during her October appearance on "The View" where the pair debated her husband's qualifications to lead HHS.
Hostin told Hines her husband was "the least qualified Department of Health and Human Services head that we've had in history."
Hines responded by explaining that Kennedy has spent his career fighting for people's health. On "Fox & Friends" she pointed out that "90% of the HHS secretaries have not been doctors. And one of them was an economist."

Hines said that when tensions run high, she tries to keep things calm "and really tries to connect with someone, because I think that's part of the problem."
"People put up their barriers, and they don't really want to listen or connect. So I was just trying to listen," she said. Hines explained that she wants to understand why someone thinks the way they do and engage with them over facts.
"But you know, it's difficult… some people don't want to engage that way," she said.
When asked if she has lost friends over her husband's involvement with the Trump administration, she shared that she has friends she hasn’t spoken to since the election.
Kennedy "had a lot of support" in Hollywood when he worked as an environmental attorney, according to Hines, but when he turned to politics to more directly make a difference in public health, "it has been a different reception, simply because of the administration and how people might feel one way or the other about President Trump."
Trump HHS changes transgender Biden official's nameplate back to birth name during shutdown
The Department of Health and Human Services has altered the official portrait of a transgender former Biden administration official to display the individual's birth name, rather than adopted name.
The former official, who currently goes by Rachel Levine, achieved the rank of admiral and served in President Joe Biden's administration as an assistant secretary for health. Levine was born a male and was the first transgender person to secure a Senate confirmation.
Up until the government shutdown this year, Levine's portrait plaque in the HHS offices featured the name "Rachel Levine," but it now displays the official's birth name, "Richard Levine."
"Our priority is ensuring that the information presented internally and externally by HHS reflects gold standard science. We remain committed to reversing harmful policies enacted by Levine and ensuring that biological reality guides our approach to public health," HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon said in a statement.

Levine responded to the move both personally and through a spokesman in statements to NPR.
"During the federal shutdown, the current leadership of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health changed Admiral Levine's photo to remove her current legal name and use a prior name," Adrian Shanker, a spokesman for Levine, told NPR, going on to describe the move as an act "of bigotry against her."
"I'm not going to comment on this type of petty action," Levine told the outlet.
Levine was a steady source of controversy during the Biden administration, claiming that there was "no argument" regarding effectiveness and safety of transgender medical procedures, and claiming that hormone blockers ought to be used to stop children from "going through the wrong puberty."
"Gender-affirming care is medical care," Levine said in 2023. "Gender-affirming care is mental health care. Gender-affirming care is literally suicide prevention care."
Trump unloads on CBS' '60 Minutes' over Marjorie Taylor Greene's interview, demands apology and rips ownership
President Donald Trump unloaded on CBS and "60 Minutes" on Monday, insisting its new ownership is "no better" than the previous regime after Lesley Stahl's Sunday interview with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., whom the president has called a traitor during their recent feud.
CBS' parent company, Paramount, merged with Skydance Media in August, putting new Paramount CEO David Ellison in charge of the company. He quickly tapped Bari Weiss, who built her brand around the notion that legacy outlets suffer from liberal groupthink, to oversee CBS News. Many believed that Trump would find Weiss’ CBS News less objectionable than past management, but the president doesn’t appear to feel that way at the moment.
"My real problem with the show, however, wasn’t the low IQ traitor [Greene], it was that the new ownership of 60 Minutes, Paramount, would allow a show like this to air. THEY ARE NO BETTER THAN THE OLD OWNERSHIP, who just paid me millions of Dollars for FAKE REPORTING about your favorite President, ME! Since they bought it, 60 Minutes has actually gotten WORSE!" Trump said.

Trump, who sat for his own interview on "60 Minutes" in early November, said in the social media post that Stahl still owed him an apology over his interview with her in 2020.
"Oh well, far worse things can happen. P.S. I hereby demand a complete and total APOLOGY, though far too late to be meaningful, from Lesley Stahl and 60 Minutes for her incorrect and Libelous statements about Hunter’s Laptop!!!" the president continued.
Stahl famously dismissed a statement made by Trump about former President Joe Biden being embroiled in a scandal with regard to the contents of Hunter Biden's laptop during the "60 Minutes" interview in 2020.
"He's not," Stahl replied at the time.
"Of course he is, Lesley," Trump sternly doubled down.
"No, c'mon," Stahl continued to reject the president's claim during the 2020 interview, before lecturing him, "This is '60 Minutes' and we can't put on things that we can't verify."
The laptop was later verified.
Trump also attacked Greene over her interview with the program, which aired on Sunday. Greene recently announced she would be resigning from Congress and will be leaving office next month.

Trump’s attack on Paramount and CBS came the same morning that Ellison launched an all-cash tender offer to acquire outstanding shares of Warner Bros. Discovery for $30 per share in cash in a hostile takeover attempt. Paramount said in a press release that regulatory certainty is among the reasons why it sees itself as a better fit.
"Paramount is highly confident in achieving expeditious regulatory clearance for its proposed offer, as it enhances competition and is pro-consumer, while creating a strong champion for creative talent and consumer choice," the press release stated.
Trump sought $20 billion in his lawsuit against CBS over its handling of an edited "60 Minutes" interview last year with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing the network of election interference leading up to the 2024 contest. The dispute was settled in July, with Trump receiving $16 million upfront to cover legal fees, costs of the case, and contributions to his future presidential library or charitable causes.
The settlement paved the way for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to approve a long-planned merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Media that put Ellison in charge of the newly formed company.
Paramount did not immediately respond to a request for comment about Trump’s latest criticism.

MTG defends herself as 'America first' after Trump slams her on Truth Social
President Donald Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., have been taking shots at each other on social media Monday, following Greene's Sunday night appearance on "60 Minutes" in which she drew the president's ire.
Greene, who is set to retire from Congress when her term ends in January, said during the interview that Republicans are "terrified" of not going along with Trump and being the subject of an angry Truth Social post. During the interview, Lesley Stahl asked Greene, "Are you MAGA?" Greene replied, "I am America first."
Trump took to the social media platform Monday morning with his sights set on Greene.
"The only reason Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown (Green turns Brown under stress!) went BAD is that she was JILTED by the President of the United States (Certainly not the first time she has been jilted!). Too much work, not enough time, and her ideas are, NOW, really BAD - She sort of reminds me of a Rotten Apple! Marjorie is not AMERICA FIRST or MAGA, because nobody could have changed her views so fast, and her new views are those of a very dumb person," Trump declared in part of a lengthy Truth Social post on Monday.
MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE SPARS WITH ‘60 MINUTES' HOST OVER ‘ACCUSATORY’ QUESTIONS
Greene fired back, repudiating the president's assertion.
"I AM AMERICA FIRST," she declared in a post on X, adding the American flag emoji. "Thank you for your attention to this matter."
Her post included a graphic indicating she received $0 from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), and that she "condemns Israel for committing genocide." Next to that was another graphic indicating that for Trump, there had been millions in "independent expenditures & campaign contributions received from pro-Israel interest groups."
Fox News Digital reached out to Greene's office on Monday for additional comment, but she did not immediately respond.
Greene had also been going after Trump over the weekend, before her interview aired.
In a Sunday post on X, Greene claimed Trump turned on her after she "stood with the Epstein Survivors." She also said the president had fired off "harsh accusatory replies and zero sympathy" after she alerted him about threats made against her adult son's life.
A White House official told Fox News Digital that the messages Greene cited had been referred to the FBI.
Bill Maher clashes with progressive commentator over Israel's war in Gaza
Comedian Bill Maher clashed with progressive commentator Ana Kasparian over Israel during the latest episode of his "Club Random" podcast, released Monday.
The two liberal commentators debated Israel’s military campaign against Hamas in Gaza, with Kasparian arguing that Israel has unjustly waged the war and killed large numbers of civilians. Maher defended Israel, saying it had no choice but to continue the fight against Hamas following the group’s Oct. 7, 2023, terror attacks.
"The fact that you can't see the moral difference between these two sides always amazes me," Maher told Kasparian partway through their discussion.
The debate began with Maher arguing that liberal activists show hypocrisy by supporting the Palestinian cause while ignoring the lack of women’s rights in many Islamic countries.
Kasparian replied by asking whether the Palestinian people should be "slaughtered" for their customs, saying that’s what Israel’s doing to them.
Maher replied, "Well, you should prosecute a war to end it. That does involve slaughter —"
Kasparian interrupted, saying, "I think – listen – civilians get killed in wars. I think everyone knows that. Everyone acknowledges that."
"Especially when you hide behind them!" Maher added.
Kasparian noted her disagreement, stating that Israel has allegedly killed many more civilians than Hamas combatants. She claimed that the IDF reported that 83% of all people killed in Gaza were civilians.
Maher did not dispute the number, but said that innocents have been killed because Hamas fighters "hide behind them."
He continued, "Do you understand that there's very often in the world, two very bad choices and you only… You don’t have the good choice. You have the bad choice and the even worse choice. Israel has been being attacked by Hamas. First of all, the entire Arab world rejected them for 75 years. They kept trying to make a deal. They kept saying, ‘No, we want it all.’ That's what ‘From the river to the sea’ means."
Kasparian tried to illustrate her point, saying, "Let's say our country was occupied by Mexico, right? We have a bunch of people who are occupying our land and then they decide, you know ––"
"Well, it’s not your land, and they weren’t occupying it," Maher interrupted, finding fault with her analogy.
"Let me finish. Let's say Mexico decides, ‘You know what, we're going to leave, but we're going to control their electricity, what goes in, what comes out.,'" she continued.
Maher cut in again, "Because they were attacking them!"
"’We're going to mow the lawn and just like randomly decide we're going to slaughter people because they allegedly threw rocks,’" Kasparian added.

She said, "I mean, Israel has nuclear weapons, Bill. They have nuclear weapons… They have the world's military superpower backing them."
Maher replied, noting her point shows how Israel shows restraint, something he added that Hamas refuses to do.
"If Hamas had a nuclear weapon, how many seconds would it take before they used it on Israel?" he asked.
"I have no idea," she answered.
"Three. Three is the answer. Three seconds."
Kasparian pushed back, asking, "How do you know that, Bill? Come on."
"Because it’s in their charter," Maher insisted.
