Missing paddleboarder found dead in Old Tampa Bay after a weekend disappearance near the causeway
The body of a man who went missing while paddleboarding over the weekend was recovered Monday in Old Tampa Bay, police said.
The man was last seen around 4 p.m. Saturday near the Courtney Campbell Causeway, a roadway that connects Tampa and Clearwater across the bay.
His family reported him missing just after 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the Tampa Police Department.
A search began Monday morning after conditions and visibility improved.
Officers with the department’s marine unit located the man’s paddleboard and other belongings on the west side of Old Tampa Bay at about 11 a.m., police said.
His body was recovered about an hour later near the causeway bridge.
Authorities said the man has not yet been positively identified, pending notification of next of kin.
Foul play is not suspected, police said, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The Courtney Campbell Causeway is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike who can enjoy the panoramic views of the Bay.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife, stand-up paddleboards are treated as vessels, which means paddlers are expected to follow many of the same safety rules as boaters.
According to the agency, safety rules for boaters include carrying a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, having a sound-producing device on board and using lights when visibility drops. The agency warns that glare, fog and choppy water can make small craft hard to spot.

Dozens of Hollywood celebrities demanded the shutdown of a Texas immigration facility for "abuse against children" in a new petition created on Sunday.
"No child should be locked in an immigration detention center. We, the undersigned, call for the immediate closure of the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) family detention center in Texas and an end to the detention of children and families," the petition read.
Among the signatures were major actors such as Madonna, Pedro Pascal, Javier Bardem, Mark Ruffalo, America Ferrera, Elliot Page, Jane Fonda, Diego Luna, Hannah Einbinder, Wunmi Mosaku, Billy Porter, Keke Palmer, Elizabeth Banks and more.

The petition asserted that children in the facility "endure trauma, neglect and conditions that violate basic standards of health, safety, dignity and human rights."
"We urge the federal government and CoreCivic to close the Dilley facility immediately, return children and families to the homes and communities they were taken from and to end child imprisonment now," the petition read. "Our commitment does not end with closure. We demand transparency, accountability, and systemic reforms to prevent these abuses from happening anywhere in the United States."
Several celebrities on the petition, such as Bardem, Ruffalo and Einbinder, have frequently criticized ICE officers, often using major awards shows as their platforms.
As of Tuesday, the petition had over 20,000 signatures.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, a CoreCivic spokesperson accused the petition of being part of the many "baseless claims and allegations" launched by people who "are either misinformed or intentionally misleading the public."
"More than just being wrong, these harmful efforts undermine the public-service centric work that our dedicated and professionally trained staff complete every single day to provide a safe and humane environment for those families and children who have been entrusted to our care," the spokesperson said.
A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) called out the celebrities, adding that the Trump administration and DHS "are laser-focused on protecting children and will continue to work with federal, state, and local law enforcement to reunite children with their families."
"These celebrities remain quiet about the humanitarian crisis that was manufactured by the Biden Administration’s open border policies over the last four years and the scores of children exploited, trafficked and missing. Do they plan to mention the psychiatric impact on the tens of thousands of children who were smuggled across the border--many by human and sex traffickers?" the spokesperson said to Fox News Digital.
The petition came after YouTube children's entertainer Ms. Rachel, whose real name is Rachel Griffin Accurso, spoke out against the Dilley Immigration Processing Center. Accurso, who also signed the petition, told NBC News that she no longer cared if she was labeled "political" for her actions.

"I am political," Accurso said. "It’s political to believe that children are worthy of love and care, and that every child is equal, and that our care shouldn’t stop at what we look like, our family, at our religion, at a border."
Celebrities have used increasingly scathing rhetoric against immigration enforcement over the past few months, going so far as to call ICE officers "the worst of the worst of humanity."
American journalist kidnapped in Iraq, employer says
Award-winning American journalist Shelly Kittleson has been kidnapped in Iraq, Al-Monitor, a publication that provides coverage of the Middle East, announced on Tuesday.
The publication called for Kittleson, a contributor to Al-Monitor, to be released immediately.
"We are deeply alarmed by the kidnapping of Al-Monitor contributor Shelly Kittleson in Iraq on Tuesday. We call for her safe and immediate release. We stand by her vital reporting from the region and call for her swift return to continue her important work," Al-Monitor said in a statement.
Iraq's interior ministry confirmed on Tuesday that a foreign journalist was kidnapped in Iraq, although the ministry has not confirmed her identity.
Former Pentagon official Alex Plitsas confirmed the news on X and said her whereabouts and condition were unknown, calling himself her designated U.S. point of contact.
The State Department said the Trump administration had no higher priority than the safety and security of Americans and was closely tracking the reports, according to CBS anchor Margaret Brennan.
The State Department didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

Trump admin to hold global summit on countering Antifa, sources confirm
The Trump administration is considering hosting a summit focused on countering Antifa and other left-wing extremist networks, according to sources familiar with the discussions.
Planning remains in the early stages. No date has been set, a State Department official told Fox News.
The potential summit comes as the administration ramps up its focus on what officials describe as transnational anarchist and Marxist groups, particularly those operating in Europe.
Some counterterrorism experts have disputed the characterization of Antifa as an organized group, arguing it operates more as a decentralized movement rather than a formal network, according to Reuters.
"The anarchists, Marxists, and violent extremists of Antifa have waged a terror campaign in the United States and across the Western world for decades, carrying out bombings, beatings, shootings and riots in service of their extreme agenda," a State Department spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News. "The State Department is committed to identifying and dismantling these terror networks that conspire to ruthlessly suppress the will of the people and violently topple the very foundations of the United States and Western Civilization."
Officials said recent efforts have focused on designating foreign groups tied to anarchist and left-wing extremist activity under U.S. counterterrorism authorities.
A State Department official explained to Fox News that each designation "is focused on a specific foreign organization that has engaged in terrorism or retains the capability and intent to engage in terrorism, while threatening Americans and/or U.S. national security."
The official pointed to recent designations targeting four organizations in Europe, including groups based in Germany, Italy and Greece that authorities said use violence against perceived political opponents.
Under U.S. law, such designations trigger a range of measures, including freezing assets, restricting travel and enabling criminal prosecution for those who provide material support.
The State Department has also flagged specific incidents tied to Antifa-aligned groups, including a recent explosive attack in Rome attributed to members of the Informal Anarchist Federation, or FAI.
"These groups have engaged in organized acts of violence, and the United States will not hesitate to use its counterterrorism authorities to disrupt them and cut off their ability to access financing or operational support, just as with any other terrorist threat," the official said.
Officials emphasized the importance of coordination with allies, noting that many of the networks operate across borders.
The administration has framed the push as part of a broader effort to combat global terrorism, including actions targeting groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, as well as transnational criminal organizations.
"The United States will continue to push for strong, coordinated action to identify, monitor and disrupt violent groups, including left-wing extremist networks like Antifa-aligned organizations active in parts of Europe and the Western Hemisphere," the official said.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi revealed in an interview Monday that she and Joe Biden had spoken following a lengthy feud between the two that stemmed from her role in the former president dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.
MS NOW's Ali Vitali pressed Pelosi, D-Calif., on whether she factored Biden's campaign exit into her own legacy, saying, "I think that many people credit you — or blame you — for the way that campaign ended."
Pelosi praised Biden and said she gets more credit and blame than she deserves for Biden leaving the race.
"Well, I don’t know, how can I say this in a nice way?" she responded. "The Biden administration accomplished great things. People compared him to LBJ in terms of the amount and the quality and quantity of accomplishments. I — the only thing I asked the president to do were two things — I get more credit or blame than I deserve in that."

"Yes we have," she said. "I’d rather — it’d be up to him to tell people when we spoke."
Vitali reported that Pelosi and Biden recently had lunch together.

Pelosi was seen as a driving force behind Biden's exit, as she indicated during a July 2024 "Morning Joe" interview that he was still making a decision despite him saying prior to her appearance that he was going to remain in the race.
Biden ultimately exited the race and endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris to take his spot at the top of the ticket.
During an interview in December 2025, Pelosi said she and Biden still had not spoken but understood why.
"Well, I'm saddened by it because I love him and respect him, but I respect his decision in that regard," Pelosi said.

Pelosi went on to praise Harris' campaign, calling her historically short election effort "great."
"She turned out so many more people than who would have voted," Pelosi said. "I think she doesn't deserve enough credit for the outcome of the election in terms of — we would have lost probably 14 seats in that election if she had not been the candidate."
Gunmen on bikes storm Nigeria village on Palm Sunday, killing at least 20
At least 20 people are dead after an overnight attack in Nigeria's north-central region on Palm Sunday.
The attack happened in the Gari Ya Waye community in the Jos North area of Plateau state, according to Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the state commissioner for information.
It remains unclear how many people were wounded or killed, and who was behind the massacre.
Residents told The Associated Press that gunmen on bikes shot "sporadically" into the community, killing at least 20 people.

Last year alone, Open Doors records show 546 Christians were killed in the Plateau State.

Blue Jays pitcher Cody Ponce carted off with injury in first MLB start in 5 years
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Cody Ponce was carted off the field in his first MLB start since 2021 with an apparent leg injury.
Ponce, 31, sustained the injury while trying to field a bouncing ground ball between the pitcher’s mound and first base in the third inning of the Blue Jays’ 14-5 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Monday night at the Rogers Centre.
Ponce seemed to take a bad step and hobbled for a couple of strides before falling to the infield dirt. First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. immediately waved toward the dugout before Ponce crumpled to the ground.

The Pomona, California, native remained down until he was helped onto the cart. Ponce was emotional on the cart but waved to fans as he was being taken off the field.
Ponce had last pitched in the big leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2021, pitching to a 7.04 ERA in 15 appearances. He spent three seasons in Japan before pitching in South Korea in 2025, and earned a three-year, $30 million contract from the Blue Jays this offseason.

He pitched 2.1 innings while striking out three and allowing one run to score in his start before he was injured.

Dylan Cease, who signed a seven-year, $210 million deal with the Blue Jays, was also brought in alongside Ponce to fortify the rotation.
The Blue Jays (3-1) will look to bounce back from the loss when they play the Rockies (1-3) in the second game of their three-game series on Tuesday at 7:07 p.m. ET.

Illegal alien alleged groping of minor girls at high school being investigated by Education Department
President Donald Trump’s Department of Education has launched "yet another investigation" into Fairfax County, Virginia, after police say that an adult illegal immigrant student allegedly groped a dozen minor girls at a high school he attended.
The Education Department announced Monday that it is opening the investigation following reports "from 12 high school girls who have credibly accused one male student — an illegal immigrant — of sexual assault."
This comes after outraged Fairfax County parents expressed disgust, frustration and fear about Fairfax County High School’s handling of complaints alleging that 18-year-old illegal alien Israel Flores Ortiz groped several girls from behind on school grounds.
According to the department, this is the latest in a "long list of investigations" it has opened into schools in deep blue Northern Virginia.
Flores Ortiz, 18, is facing 13 counts of assault and battery for allegedly inappropriately touching female classmates at a Fairfax County school.
Fairfax police were alerted on March 5 by Fairfax High School about reports of multiple assaults on campus. An arrest warrant was issued, and Flores Ortiz turned himself in on March 7. He is currently being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Flores Ortiz is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who was released into the U.S. under the Biden administration in 2024. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said a detainer has been filed for him by federal authorities and that he could face removal from the country.
Parent Stacy Langton told Fox News Digital last week that "it's terrifying as a parent, because when I send my daughters to school, I think they're safe in the care of the school."
"And in this case, they absolutely were not safe, and I don't know what parent wouldn't be completely distraught at the idea that their daughters could be getting sexually battered while they're changing classes," said Langton.
A spokesperson for Fairfax County Public Schools confirmed the investigation, telling Fox News Digital that it "received the complaint yesterday and is reviewing it."
The spokesperson said that the school system is "prepared to fully cooperate with the U.S. Department of Education’s inquiry."
"We are grateful to our law enforcement partners and are continuing to work closely with them as their investigation into this matter moves forward," the spokesperson said, adding, "to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation, we cannot share additional details at this point."
They said that "in addition to the law enforcement investigation, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid has requested that FCPS retain an independent outside law firm to conduct a comprehensive review of this matter."
The spokesperson shared that the firm McGuireWoods "will conduct this thorough, objective, and independent review."
"The goal is clear: to establish a definitive understanding of what occurred, when it occurred, and confirm that all policies, procedures, and regulations were properly followed," the spokesperson said, adding, "The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority."
The system previously released a statement saying that it prioritizes the safety of students and staff.
"While Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is unable to comment on specifics due to federal and state privacy laws, we prioritize student and staff safety, and we fully investigate any time someone shares that an incident has occurred at school, or that they do not feel safe at school," the district said at the time.

In addition to the Fairfax County incidents, the Department of Education said it is investigating several other incidents in Northern Virginia schools involving female students filing complaints about inappropriate conduct in female-only spaces by men allowed in under gender identity policies.
The department said that "Virginia’s experiment with radical gender ideology, race-based admissions systems, far-Left indoctrination, and unlawful discrimination has inflicted immeasurable harm on our students," adding, "It must stop."
DeSantis calls for impeachment of judge for releasing sex offender who then allegedly killed stepdaughter
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed new crime accountability laws Tuesday and ramped up his calls for judges to be held accountable for releasing criminals who commit further violent crimes, using the power of impeachment.
"We live in a time where some people just don't get it, and that includes some of these judges who just don't want to hold these people accountable to the fullest extent of the law," DeSantis said at a news conference to announce the signing of Missy’s Law.
"Now that is not going to be a problem."
DeSantis urged the Florida House to impeach Leon County Judge Tiffany Baker-Carper, who released a convicted sex offender on bond before sentencing, saying the decision helped lead to the later alleged murder of the man’s 5-year-old stepdaughter.

"Until you start holding these judges accountable, they are going to continue to find ways to benefit the criminal element."
Baker-Carper allowed Daniel Spencer to remain free after his conviction in an underage sex sting case. Spencer was later charged, along with Chloe Spencer, in the 2025 killing of his stepdaughter, Missy Mogle. The state is seeking the death penalty for both.

"This is an outrage," DeSantis said. "This should be such an easy call to make sure that this guy was put behind bars, and this judge refused to do it, knowing the risks. And the result has obviously been a tragedy."
DeSantis noted the Florida State Legislature has more than the two-thirds majority needed to pass an impeachment of a judge.
"Honestly, I think some Democrats would vote to impeach, given what happened in this case," he said.
Baker-Carper won her judicial seat Nov. 3, 2020, becoming the youngest woman and youngest Black candidate elected judge in Florida's 2nd Judicial Circuit.

The Republican governor also signed House Bill 1159, which is aimed at strengthening protections for children and enhancing penalties for and expanding criminal offenses related to child sexual abuse material.
"Justice demands that those who victimize innocent people face swift and meaningful consequences," DeSantis said. "Today, I signed two important bills to strengthen law and order in Florida by holding dangerous criminals and sex offenders accountable for their crimes. In Florida, we will always fight to protect our children and deliver justice for victims of crimes."
Missy's Law strengthens Florida’s pretrial detention system for specified dangerous crimes. Under the law, individuals found guilty of or entering a plea for a dangerous crime will be immediately remanded into custody and held without bond while awaiting sentencing. The legislation also expands the statutory list of dangerous crimes to include certain computer pornography and child exploitation offenses, ensuring individuals arrested for these crimes are not automatically released at their first appearance.
"Last year, we proposed Missy's Law after the tragic murder of 5-year-old Missy Mogle at the hands of a convicted, abusive pedophile who was allowed to remain out on bond by Judge Tiffany Baker," Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said.
"Missy’s Law removes judicial discretion and ensures dangerous criminals are locked up after conviction. I am grateful to Governor DeSantis for signing this bill."

"Ultimately, we want to make sure that every community member who calls Providence home feels safe," Rep. David Morales told local media about a mural of Zarutska facing calls to be removed from the exterior of an LGBTQ+ club in downtown Providence.
"We can both agree that this mural behind us does not reflect Providence’s values nor does it reflect the creativity that we would want to see in our city."
The lawmaker's comments immediately sparked negative reactions from conservatives on social media after they were posted by the conservative influencer account End Wokeness in a post that has been viewed over 1 million times.

Fox News Digital reached out to Morales’s office for comment but did not receive a response.
Morales responded to Musk on X in a post clarifying what his "values" are.
"Not to exploit the death of a refugee to push an agenda centered around fear and division," Morales wrote. "My values, like many of our neighbors in Providence, is to protect our immigrant neighbors from ICE’s state-sanctioned violence and supporting our refugee neighbors with authentic care."
The mayor of Providence, Democrat Brett P. Smiley, has also spoken out against the mural.
"The murder of the individual depicted in this mural was a devastating tragedy, but the misguided, isolating intent of those funding murals like this across the country is divisive and does not represent Providence," Smiley said. "I continue to encourage our community to support local artists whose work brings us closer together rather than further divides us."
Zarutska, a 23-year-old refugee who fled her country after the Russian invasion, was brutally stabbed to death in an unprovoked attack while riding the Lynx Blue Line light rail in Charlotte, N.C., last year.
The suspect, Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, is charged with violence against a railroad carrier and mass transportation system resulting in death, which is a capital offense under federal law.
Records from the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction show Brown has a prior criminal history, including convictions for larceny, breaking and entering and armed robbery. He served five years in prison starting in 2015.
Zarutska's death prompted questions about soft on crime policies adopted by many Democratic-run cities. President Donald Trump spotlighted the killing during his State of the Union address last month.
"Iryna was riding home on the train when a deranged monster, who had been arrested over a dozen times and was released through no-cash bail, stood up and viciously slashed a knife through her neck and body," Trump said.
