Ben Shelton takes down Carlos Alcaraz to earn the biggest win of his career in latest US Open match ever
It may have happened during a quarter-final match, and it may have taken place while most of the country was asleep, but Ben Shelton officially became the face of American men's tennis on Wednesday morning at the US Open.
After four hours and 28 minutes of war, Shelton secured his victory over seven-time major champion Carlos Alcaraz 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7) at 3:33 a.m. in New York, making it the longest match in the Grand Slam's history when the clock ticked past 2:50 a.m.
By punching his ticket into the US Open semifinal for the second consecutive year, he guaranteed that the United States will be represented in Sunday's final as he'll take on fellow American Francis Tiafoe on Friday in the semis.

"It’s always about the people in the crowd, whether it’s my coaches and my team over there, all my family and friends over here, or the city of New York," Shelton said during his on-court interview following the match. "They showed up tonight till 3 a.m. with USA chats until the very end, that’s what kept me going, and that’s what got me this win tonight.
"I’m just hoping my best friend and my sister over there don’t have to be at work at 6 a.m. in three hours."

Shelton's heroics on Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning snapped Alcaraz's 18-match winning streak in Grand Slam tournaments. As expected, Alcaraz made life tough for Shelton at pivotal points throughout the match, but the Spaniard's 53 unforced errors proved to be a critical difference in the end.
Shelton's serve, the strongest weapon in his repertoire, was on full display as he secured seven aces and just two double faults throughout the five-set thriller. The victory marked Shelton's first time defeating Alcaraz in his career, with the Spaniard previously holding a 3-0 record against the Florida native, with the two last meeting at Roland Garros in 2025.
Weight regain after obesity drugs tied to higher odds of suicidal thoughts in observational study

Adults who reported using prescription weight-loss medication in the last year had higher rates of depression, mental-health counseling, suicidal thoughts and suicide-related behaviors compared to people who did not take the drugs, according to an observational study.
The research, conducted at Asan Medical Center in South Korea, analyzed data from 27,741 adults (10,908 men and 16,833 women).
Of these participants, 846 had been taking prescription medications for weight control during the previous year, while 26,895 did not take them.
OZEMPIC USERS MAY BE MAKING A MAJOR WEIGHT-LOSS MISTAKE, NEW STUDY SUGGESTS
The weight-loss drug users were 1.9 times more likely to experience depression and twice as likely to seek mental health counseling.
They were also 2.7 times more likely to have suicidal thoughts and 1.7 times more likely to make a suicide attempt.
The associations were stronger among those using the medications who gained or regained weight.
"The tendency for depression and suicide-related indicators to increase as weight rebounds after using weight-loss drugs may reflect not only the neuropsychiatric effects of the drugs themselves, but also a complex interplay of psychological and social factors associated with failed weight control," the research team wrote in the study.
PATIENTS TAKING WEIGHT-LOSS DRUGS OFTEN MAKE 5 CRITICAL MISTAKES, DOCTOR WARNS
The findings were published in the Korean Journal of Family Practice on Aug. 23.
Bonnie Mitchell, a licensed professional clinical counselor in California, noted that this was an observational, cross-sectional study.
"It shows a correlation between weight-loss drug use and self-reported mental health symptoms, but it cannot prove causation," she told Fox News Digital. "It does not demonstrate that weight-loss medications directly induce depression or suicidal thoughts."
The data was collected between 2013 and 2022.
"During most of this period, modern GLP-1/GIP receptor agonists used for weight loss (such as high-dose semaglutide/Wegovy or tirzepatide/Zepbound/Mounjaro) were either not yet on the market or had very limited real world uptake in South Korea," Mitchell said.

"The study sample captures older anti-obesity agents historically prescribed in South Korea during that decade, including phentermine, diethylpropion, phendimetrazine, topiramate and orlistat."
Central nervous system stimulants – including phentermine-based drugs – have been shown to carry risks of anxiety, mood changes and insomnia, the counselor noted.
"The study highlighted a striking sub finding that found users who gained weight despite taking the medication had 4.2 times higher odds of suicidal ideation compared to non-users," Mitchell noted.
Weight regain or perceived "failure" in weight management can trigger profound guilt, shame, helplessness and psychological distress, according to the expert.
"Individuals with severe obesity have higher baseline rates of depression, anxiety and body dysmorphia," Mitchell said. "A cross-sectional survey cannot separate pre-existing mental health struggles from new symptoms that arose after starting a medication."
More research is needed to determine whether weight-loss medications themselves affect mental health, or whether depression and other symptoms are related to factors such as obesity or difficulties losing weight.
The researchers also need to determine whether mental health risks differ between specific weight-loss drugs.

"Even though GLP-1 clinical trials show low absolute risk, the FDA’s product labels for chronic weight management drugs (like Wegovy and Zepbound) include warnings to monitor for mood changes," Mitchell noted.
She recommends that a physician conducts a baseline mental health history before prescribing new weight-loss medications, evaluating past or current depression, bipolar disorder, or history of suicidal ideation or behavior.
"Doctors can inform patients and caregivers about potential mood changes so they know what to watch for," Mitchell said. "The next important step for ongoing monitoring would be to schedule check-ins at 4- to 8-week intervals during dose escalation, to evaluate both physiological progress and psychological well-being."

"Any active suicidal thoughts require immediate emergency medical care," Mitchell advised.
"If a patient develops emergent depression or suicidal ideation during treatment, clinicians should discontinue the weight-loss medication and connect the patient with psychiatric support."
Eli Lilly, manufacturer of the tirzepatide weight-loss medication Zepbound, explicitly mentions "depression or thoughts of suicide" in its safety information.

"You should pay attention to changes in your mood, behaviors, feelings or thoughts," the website reads.
It further advises patients to contact a healthcare provider if mental health changes are "new, worse or worry you."
On Lilly's medical-information site, the company says that after reviewing clinical trials and medical reports, "no increased risk" of suicidal ideation or psychiatric adverse effects was identified.
Novo Nordisk, manufacturer of the semaglutide weight-loss medication Wegovy, states in its trials that less than 1% of participants experienced suicidal ideation or behavior during treatment. It also says there was "no difference between semaglutide 2.4 mg and placebo."
Fox News Digital reached out to Lilly and Novo Nordisk for comment.

David Beamer, the father of 9/11 Flight 93 hero Todd Beamer, called on Michigan to "vote American this time," warning that he believes Democratic socialists pose an existential threat to the nation.
Speaking on "America's Newsroom," Tuesday, Beamer compared voting in the upcoming election to defending the country, calling on voters to reject what he described as radical agendas.
"These Democratic socialists are really more closely aligned with domestic terrorists than with our way of life," Beamer said.

Beamer's son Todd was among the passengers who fought back against the hijackers on September 11, 2001, rallying fellow passengers to storm the cockpit of United Airlines Flight 93. The plane crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing everyone on board, but the passengers’ actions prevented the hijackers from reaching their intended target in Washington, D.C.
Beamer, a Michigan voter, endorsed Mike Rogers in the Senate race over Democratic opponent Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, telling his fellow Michiganders they have a decision to make about the future of their state.
"I'm [going to] vote against those that want to destroy America. I'm [going to] vote for an American, a real Michigan man. His name happens to be Mike Rogers. I want everybody across all the platforms, Democrat, independent, Republican, vote American this time. Don't vote for those who are set about to destroy our [freedoms]," Beamer said.

El-Sayed has faced criticism from Rogers over past comments he made regarding the 9/11 terrorist attacks in now-deleted social media posts.

Tomorrow, I'll mourn ~1M lives, millions of injuries, & infrastructural devastation in 3 countries, perpetuated ignorantly in the name of my country," he wrote in a 2021 post first reported by the Washington Free Beacon.

Beamer drew a comparison between the 9/11 attacks and the upcoming election, warning that while the nation was caught unprepared on 9/11, voters today cannot afford to be surprised.
"The other thing that I reflect on about 9/11, that was a surprise attack. We didn't see it coming. We weren't prepared," Beamer said. "Some, like Todd, had to go to battle that day. Others had to rush into buildings to try and save people. We weren't ready for that attack."

Beamer argued that the threats facing the country have evolved and now include adversaries operating from within. "Our enemies haven't gone away," he said. "They identify themselves as Democratic socialists. Their platform is one that aims to destroy all the values and the foundations of this country that we’ve enjoyed for hundreds of years."
"Well, the good news is, in this upcoming attack, and we know when it starts, early voting starts in a few weeks. That's when this battle begins. We all have the same weapon. I've got a ballot," Beamer concluded.
Fox News Digital reached out to the El-Sayed campaign for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
Washington father sues school district for denying religious opt-out for 5th grader from LGBTQ instruction
EXCLUSIVE — A Washington father is suing his son’s public school district after he said his 10-year-old was taught about gender surgery during a Pride Month lesson despite the Christian parent previously asking the school to excuse his child from LGBTQ-related instruction.
On Tuesday, Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which is representing the father, Konstantin Averkiev, filed a federal lawsuit against Lake Washington School District, alleging officials violated Averkiev’s First and 14th Amendment rights by refusing to provide notice and allow his son to opt out of LGBTQ-related lessons and other school requirements that conflict with his religious beliefs.
The dispute began after Averkiev said he met with his son’s fourth-grade teacher at Henry David Thoreau Elementary School in September 2025 and requested advance notice and an opt-out from lessons involving LGBTQ topics, gender identity or gender transition.
According to the complaint, the teacher agreed, but Averkiev subsequently found out his son had been taught a June Pride Month lesson that allegedly included a classroom discussion of gender-change surgery.
The teacher then said he remembered Averkiev’s request and told him he "should have sent the lessons ahead of time," according to messages cited in the lawsuit. However, Averkiev said that the district later rejected nearly all of his broader opt-out requests as his son prepared to enter fifth grade.
The Pride Month presentation, taught to fourth and fifth-grade students, described same-sex attraction, transgender identity and the Stonewall uprising, a series of protests from people who identified as LGBTQ+ against a police raid on June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York City's Greenwich Village, according to materials cited in the complaint.

Averkiev also alleged the classroom discussion went further than just the slides. His son told him the class had discussed gender-change surgery, meaning the father argues he would not have known the subject was coming even if the school had provided him the presentation in advance.
With his son starting fifth grade, Averkiev, with the help of ADF attorneys, asked the district to excuse his son from LGBTQ-related instruction and requirements, including individual counseling sessions and the use of pronouns that conflict with his religious beliefs, according to ADF.
ADF said the district rejected nearly all of Averkiev’s requests, granting only opt-outs for sex-education curriculum and health surveys, which the legal group noted are already required under Washington state law.

But the legal group maintains that Averkiev’s rights are protected under the First and 14th Amendments, and "extend to every lesson or government-school requirement on his son that would ‘undermin[e] the religious beliefs and practices’ Mr. Averkiev wishes to instill in his son," according to the lawsuit.
"Parents have the fundamental right to direct their children’s religious upbringing and education, even at school," Kate Anderson, ADF senior counsel and director of the ADF Center for Parental Rights, said in a statement. "Washington state officials can’t force parents like Mr. Averkiev to give up that right or accept a burden on their children’s religious upbringing in exchange for the benefit of public education."
"Our Constitution forbids schools from indoctrinating children with the government’s views on sexuality and gender — hotly debated and sensitive topics — that substantially undermine their religious upbringing," she added.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Averkiev said, "As a parent, I have a right to decide what my son learns about sex and gender at school. He's ten years old. I don't want him to learn about gender-change surgery and using false pronouns."
"I have repeatedly asked to opt my son out of the school district's LGBTQ instruction. But the district has refused. I am filing this lawsuit, so schools cannot ignore parents like me," he added.
Lake Washington School District declined to comment when reached by Fox News Digital, but said that it follows "all applicable federal and state laws and guidance from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction."

Michael Rapaport tells Craig Carton that his support for Israel has cost him work in Hollywood
In case you thought "cancel culture" was a thing of the past, there's one position that can immediately lead to immense blowback and financial harm in the modern world: supporting Israel.
The entertainment industry, filled with those on the extreme far left of the political spectrum, has now become a hotbed of anti-Israel sentiment. Partially due to the views of many younger creatives and executives, and partially due to fear of angry reactions and boycotts from certain online communities.
Even for actors with successful, lengthy careers, speaking up in support of Israel in 2026 carries immense risk. And can cost jobs, opportunities, or hurt relationships with comedians, clubs, or staff at comedy shows. Just ask Michael Rapaport, who has consistently worked for 30-plus years, only to find that steadfast support of Israel was "controversial" enough to get him "ghosted" by the industry.

Rapaport told Craig Carton for the premiere of his new OutKick program, "The Craig Carton Show" that it's been an "issue" for him in 2026.
"No, the yeah, the career stuff has been a problem," Rapaport said. "There's been an issue. The show's being boycotted. Sucks. It doesn't make anybody comfortable. It doesn't make the club comfortable. It doesn't make the other comedians comfortable."

Rapaport explained that some club staff have told him they've faced threats and harassment simply for booking him, and shows have been canceled due to safety concerns.
".... There was a show in Chicago and they said, 'We're not just getting threats that the club staff is getting called and harassed on social media, that if you go to work, this is going to happen to you'...'We have to cancel this show because the police are saying they can't promise they can be there on Thursday night.'"
As for the movie and television business, Rapaport explained that after years of consistently booking jobs, he now gets "ghosted" because studios are "worried about protests on Twitter" for hiring a pro-Israel actor.
Then there's the "personal aspect of it," that as a proud Jewish New Yorker, Rapaport now gets attacked and verbally threatened in his home city.
"Being heckled in New York hurt," he said. He'll hear walking down the street comments like, 'There's the f—ing zionist.'

"Anti-semitic, anti-Jewish stuff," Rapaport continued. "That hurts me, it embarrasses me, I don't want any other Jewish people behind me to feel uncomfortable, or scared or hesitant to fight, stand up and be proud, however they do it."
It's an unfortunate reality that blatant hatred towards openly Jewish people is now virtually an expectation in major blue cities. Despite New York long being home to a large Jewish community, the city's increasing tolerance for extremist rhetoric through Mayor Zohran Mamdani has made it so some are "uncomfortable" wearing traditionally religious items.

"The idea that Jews in New York City being uncomfortable to walk around with yarmulkes, it hurts me intrinsically," Rapaport concluded.
It's incomprehensible that simply practicing your religion and supporting the one country in the world that represents it makes you a target in 2026, but that's the power of online rhetoric and the lack of perspective, rationality, and critical thinking that accompanies it.
Rapaport isn't the only one facing these types of consequences, he's just one of the most prominent. Inexcusable.

US sinks another 'floating refueling station' linked to 'narco-terrorist' group
U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced on Tuesday that the U.S. sank another vessel characterized as a "floating refueling station" linked to drug trafficking efforts.
"On September 8, under the direction of #SOUTHCOM, Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere (JTF-WHEM) forces successfully interdicted a floating refueling station supporting illicit at-sea drug trafficking operations in the Eastern Pacific," SOUTHCOM noted in a post on X.
"Intelligence confirmed the vessel's involvement with the Los Choneros violent narco-terrorist organization. Individuals removed from the vessel have been transferred to Ecuadorian authorities. After clearing the vessel and disembarking the crew, U.S. forces sank it," the post continued.

"JTF-WHEM continues to conduct precise and professional operations to dismantle the logistical networks fueling narco-trafficking in the Western Hemisphere," SOUTHCOM added.
The post was the latest in a string of similar announcements about the U.S. sinking vessels serving as refueling stations linked with the Los Choneros, a designated foreign terrorist organization.

"The Ecuador-based gang Los Choneros is a major driver of destabilizing violence in Ecuador," according to a counterterrorism guide.

George Bush welcomes top officials to his home state for 9/11 remembrance on 25th anniversary of attacks
DALLAS — George W. Bush was president during the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, and he is marking the 25th anniversary of the day that changed America forever by hosting a solemn remembrance event in his home state.
The event, called "A Legacy of Service: America at the 25th Anniversary of 9/11," will take place at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, Texas, and kicks off at 6:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday evening.
It will feature a conversation between former President Bush and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who "will share their reflections on the legacy and meaning of 9/11—how the day changed the country, how it continues to shape American life, and how the call to serve remains as urgent as ever," according to the webpage for the event.

A moderated discussion between General Dan Caine, the current chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and former Deputy National Security Advisor J.D. Crouch, who served in that role under Bush from 2005 to 2007, is also part of the program.
Melissa Stockwell, a two-time Paralympic triathlete and Army veteran who was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star after losing her leg in Iraq, is a featured guest. So is Jared Lyons, a Navy veteran and CEO of Student Veterans of America.
"Together, these conversations will offer a thoughtful, elevated reflection on a defining moment in American history and on the enduring commitment to service that continues to strengthen the nation," the webpage for the event says.
As part of the 25th anniversary commemoration, Bush painted 16 works of art that "reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and resilience that emerged from one of the most defining moments in American history," that will be displayed at Freedom Hall at the Bush Museum through September.
Bush was known for his painting hobby when he occupied the White House and in the years after he left office.
The Bush Presidential Center has also invited the public to join in a moment of remembrance on Friday morning, alongside local first responders.
Bush was president on Sept. 11, 2001, and was visiting an elementary school for an education event when he was informed that America was under attack. He first used the phrase "war on terrorism" on Sept. 16, 2001, and officially declared a campaign during a Sept. 20, 2001 joint address to Congress, which kicked off the 20-year war on terror.
He was elected for a second term in 2004 and retired to Texas with his wife Laura, and the two have maintained a relatively low profile.
