WATCH: AOC accuses Trump of ‘betrayal’ after Supreme Court immigration rulings
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accused President Donald Trump of a "betrayal" after the Supreme Court handed his administration a pair of immigration wins involving Temporary Protected Status and asylum claims.
The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for Haitian and Syrian migrants, clearing the way for the administration to remove legal protections that have allowed many Haitians to remain and work in the U.S. since Haiti’s 2010 earthquake and many Syrians since the country’s civil war prompted a TPS designation in 2012.
Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., told Fox News Digital the TPS decision targets the very people Trump supporters were told would not be the focus of his aggressive immigration deportation agenda.

"I think it's really sad because these decisions are targeting exactly the kind of people that Republican voters said that they did not want targeted in the Trump administration's immigration policy," Ocasio-Cortez said.
She argued the ruling marked "a reversal of President Trump's promise to only go after, quote unquote, criminals and rapists."
"This decision to overturn TPS targets nurses, it targets health care workers, it targets domestic workers, cleaners, people who work in restaurants," she said, calling it "a real betrayal of President Trump's promise."
Ocasio-Cortez also argued the ruling would hurt U.S. citizens by raising prices, making it harder to find workers, while also breaking up longstanding communities.
House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., criticized Trump and Republicans over the asylum ruling, saying the president has "time and time again" attacked a process that has been part of U.S. law for decades.
"People are fleeing terrible conditions and they have a lawful right to declare asylum," Aguilar said.
"Temporary Protected Status was always meant to be temporary," White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson said on Thursday. "It was never meant to be a pathway to permanent status or citizenship...our asylum system, for years, has been abused and exploited by bad actors...this ruling is a step in the right direction towards clearing up our asylum system and making sure that people can't enter our country who shouldn't be here — and that people who are here, who shouldn't be here, should be deported."
Asked what Democrats’ next step would be on TPS, Aguilar pointed to legislation he said Democrats forced through the House by discharge petition.
"Democrats led legislation in order to bring certainty to that. It's sitting over in the Senate," Aguilar said. "We forced a discharge petition, and were successful because we believe in governing."
Aguilar appeared to be referring to House-passed legislation aimed at extending TPS protections for Haitians.
Rep. Shomari Figures, D-Ala., said he had not yet read the full decisions but was "beyond the point of being surprised by almost any decision that comes out of court."
Figures defended TPS for Haiti, citing natural disasters, political instability and violence.
"There's not a country that I think TPS is designed at its core that's more deserving of that than the situations we currently see in Haiti," Figures said.

Now the Trump administration is targeting Germany for stealing U.S. medicines. The president won’t back down until Germany stops the blatant theft — and starts giving Americans the lower drug prices we deserve.
On June 18, the Trump administration launched a major investigation into German drug pricing. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer announced this move after Germany proposed paying less for drugs developed in America. Regardless of whether that proposal moves forward, Germany already pays too little for American-made drugs. The country is unfairly hurting U.S. innovation and workers while sticking Americans with higher costs.
Like most European countries, Germany has been bilking America for decades. The country has forced pharmaceutical companies to sell their drugs at steep discounts, making the medicines artificially cheap. Yet drugs aren’t cheap, and it takes U.S. companies about $2.7 billion on average to bring a new pharmaceutical to market. Companies have to cover those costs, so they can keep investing in the next generation of innovative treatments. If they don’t recoup the money, they can’t employ so many U.S. workers, much less cure diseases like cancer.

By mandating steep pricing discounts, Germany is shifting high costs to Americans. For the most expensive drugs, Americans already pay four times more than Germans. But that’s unjust. Germans are taking the same drugs as Americans, but they aren’t paying as much for the drugs’ development.
Put simply, Germans aren’t paying their fair share. And now Germany wants to pay even less!
No wonder the Trump administration is investigating Germany. Specifically, the president has launched a Section 301 investigation into the country’s "persistent underpayment for innovative pharmaceutical products." The investigation will last into the fall, with a public hearing on Sept. 22. If the Trump administration concludes that Germany has acted unfairly, it could slap tariffs on Germany in response.

German leaders have responded the way Europeans typically respond to Trump: with outrage. They say the investigation could threaten a broader trade deal between the United States and the European Union. But if Trump has taught the world anything, it’s that he won’t settle for anything less than a better deal that helps Americans. German leaders would be wiser to start paying more — not less — for U.S. drugs, and soon.
Germany should look to the United Kingdom. Until earlier this year, the U.K. also paid far less for American medicines. But after the Trump administration threatened tariffs, the U.K. agreed to pay more. The deal isn’t perfect, but it does shift some of the unfair burden off Americans. That’s what Germany’s leaders needs to do, as well: Accept the responsibility to pay for the drugs that save German lives.
If Germany sees wisdom and pays its fair share, Americans will benefit in many ways. Patients will save money as drug prices drop. The American companies that drive global medical innovation will also be able to develop new drugs, treatments, and cures. And other nations will see that America refuses to be abused on drug pricing any longer. If the rest of the world wants the life-saving drugs that we develop here, they should start paying what the drugs are worth.
The Trump administration deserves praise for holding Germany accountable. If that country’s leaders are smart, they’ll abandon their plans to gouge America even more and accept a deal that restores fairness. The U.S. deserves better than a so-called friend who steals our companies’ innovations and picks our people’s pockets. And it’s long past time for European leaders to realize that under President Trump, they can’t take advantage of America anymore.
Switching from cigarettes to vapes linked to higher risk of major eye diseases, large study finds
Switching from cigarettes to electronic vapes is often seen as a healthier move, but a massive nationwide study published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology suggests that smokeless alternatives could increase the risk of serious eye diseases compared to quitting nicotine altogether.
Researchers from the Korea University College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, analyzed health data from a group of 179,273 adults through the Korean National Health Insurance Service, according to a press release.
All participants had smoked traditional cigarettes between 2011 and 2012 and then quit smoking by 2018 or 2019, they reported.

To ensure a fair comparison, the researchers paired up participants who shared similar backgrounds, including their age, gender, medical history, existing health conditions and general lifestyle habits.
This process created a balanced group of 32,316 matched participants, who were divided into two categories: complete quitters who stopped using all nicotine products and those who transitioned to smokeless nicotine products, such as vapes.
The researchers followed the participants for an average of 4.6 years to determine whether they developed eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and focus-related eyesight disorders.

Over the tracking period, the group experienced a total of 6,328 major eye disease events. People who quit nicotine entirely had the lowest disease rate in the study, at 41.1 cases per 1,000 person-years (a measure that accounts for both the number of people in the study and how long they were followed).
In comparison, that rate rose to 44 cases for individuals who had switched over to smokeless alternatives like vapes.
Ultimately, the data showed that switching to alternative nicotine products carried a steady 7% increased risk of serious eye diseases compared to quitting nicotine completely.

Most notably, those who switched faced a 24% higher risk of developing diabetic retinopathy, a condition that damages the blood vessels in the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.

Additionally, those who ditched cigarettes for vapes had a 7% higher risk of developing refractive and accommodation disorders, which affect the eye's ability to focus clearly.

"These findings challenge the assumption that substituting noncombustible nicotine or tobacco products for conventional cigarettes is visually harmless," the researchers noted.
The authors did point out a few limitations of the research. Because this was a study looking back at health insurance data, it cannot definitively prove that vaping directly causes eye damage.
Additionally, the study relied on people filling out questionnaires about their own smoking and vaping habits, which can sometimes lead to underreporting or simple memory errors.

Still, the researchers concluded the findings suggest that replacing cigarettes with alternative nicotine products may not eliminate the risk of certain eye diseases.

"I don't think that plays everywhere," Conway said. "That's not aligned with the values of this country. It'll happen in very curated, specific districts, but it won't happen everywhere."
Conway made the remarks while attending a Capitol Hill ceremony commemorating the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary, where organizers completed a time capsule to be preserved for the next 250 years.
She said she hopes "all Americans are very excited" to celebrate the country's milestone before weighing in on the Democratic primary results.
Conway also cited a recent poll on patriotism, saying she was "very disturbed" in results that found 90% of Republicans say they are extremely or very proud to be American, compared to only 29% of Democrats.
Conway said the results reinforced her belief that the Democratic Party's activist wing is increasingly out of step with most Americans, arguing that patriotism remains a defining issue for many voters heading into the midterm elections.
When asked whether she was surprised by the primary loss of her ex-husband, anti-Trump conservative attorney George Conway, the former top White House aide replied, "Not at all."
Conway, a prominent critic of President Donald Trump, was running to replace retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N,Y., but lost his bid.

Alton Brown recently opened up about the one snack he says transports him back to childhood.
The "Good Eats" star recently appeared on an episode of Mythical Kitchen's "Last Meals," a podcast in which celebrity guests discuss the meal they'd choose and reflect on the moments that shaped their lives.
Brown said his ideal final feast would include a variety of foods, including lamb and seafood.

Muslim Mamdani-backed socialist primary winner suggested America deserved 9/11 in unearthed video
Another radical far-left candidate backed by socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is under fire after a resurfaced social media clip shows her appearing to suggest that America deserved the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.
Aber Kawas is the Muslim daughter of illegal aliens who is now the Democratic nominee for the New York State Senate District 12. Like Mamdani, Kawas is a socialist.
"The system of capitalism and racism and White supremacy… and Islamophobia have all been used to colonize lands, to take resources from other people and so this is a long trajectory, and we're just seeing the manifestations of that continuation with 9/11," she said in a 2017 episode of the Asian American Writers' Association podcast titled "Islamophobia beyond 9/11 with Aber Kawas."
She then downplayed the horrific attack.

The radical candidate addressed her comments during a November 2025 interview, downplaying them as out-of-context attacks from the political right, calling them "cherry-picked comments."
"I’ve always been outspoken about the wrongful scapegoating of Muslim Americans, both before and after 9/11, and in this interview I was speaking about the harmful notion that Muslims should have to apologize for an act of violence they have nothing to do with," Kawas told Fox News Digital Thursday morning.
"Our resounding victory this week shows that the people of Queens simply don’t buy into this kind of desperate, Islamophobic smear, and want leaders in office who aren’t afraid to call out bigotry, racism, and double standards."
Kawas, who describes herself as a Palestinian American and Muslim community activist, made Gaza a central issue of her campaign. She said in her victory speech that "another world is possible," and that is "a world where Gaza is free to live."
She has also reportedly been affiliated with the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which has previously been designated as a terrorist organization in some U.S. states and other countries.

Her father, Jordanian national Abdelkareem Kawas, came to the United States on a tourist visa in 1989 and never left, according to the New York Post. He was later deported after a conviction for real estate fraud and a prison stint.
Kawas made this story central to her campaign and portrayed it on the trail as cruel persecution by immigration authorities of her father.
New York State Senate District 12 comprises western Queens, including Astoria.
It is a deeply blue district, and Kawas was vying for the seat against Democratic Assemblyman Steven Raga, whom she defeated handily. Incumbent State Sen. Michael Gianaris is stepping down when his term ends.
In a district that is deeply blue, Kawas is likely to stroll to victory in November, which will send her to Albany come January.
Supreme Court's latest immigration ruling will cause Americans to 'die and suffer' attorney warns
Immigration attorney Allen Orr claimed that the Supreme Court's ruling that the Trump administration has the right to end the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of Haitian and Syrian nationals will cause several people to "die and suffer."
On Thursday, the Supreme Court issued a 6-3 ruling in the case of Mullin v. Doe, finding that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under President Donald Trump was within its power to remove the temporary protections from certain countries, overturning the rulings of lower courts.
Speaking on "MS NOW Reports," Orr, who represented Haitian nationals, called the decision "very devastating" for Americans, suggesting that it could have deadly consequences.

"There are going to be a lot of jobs that are left open, and a lot of people in the home healthcare industry who are not going to receive any service, because their providers are going to be removed from the United States," Orr said. "There are a lot of people who are going to die and suffer because of this. So I wish this court was more of a court of equity rather than what they say they were a court of policy right now."
He also criticized the Supreme Court for dismissing Trump's past comments regarding Haitian migrants in their decision and pushed back on the White House repeating that the protection status was only "temporary" based on the name.
"The concept that people keep repeating — that the problem is its 'temporary' status, and it’s been longer than temporary — well, change the word. Don’t put people’s lives in danger because you feel that label arbitrarily moves something," Orr said.
He continued, "As I said before, there are a million-plus TPS individuals who are here legally, working. They’re authorized, they’ve been vetted. There are none of the other concerns you might have with people who come in undocumented. They’re supporting our economy. And when you remove those individuals, you draw down all of those work areas. All those jobs they’re doing, all of these companies that were relying on these TPS workers to work tomorrow are going to have to make decisions about them leaving today."
In a comment to Fox News Digital, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson called the ruling a "win" for the administration.
"Today, the Supreme Court affirmed what President Trump has always maintained: temporary protected status is, by definition, temporary. It was never intended to be a pathway to permanent status or legal residency and it is committed to the discretion of the Secretary of Homeland Security. The Trump Administration continues to lawfully end the egregious abuses to our immigration system that have hurt Americans for years," Jackson said.

Trump first attempted to revoke TPS for Haitians, which was initially granted after the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, during his first term in 2017. A series of federal challenges to that attempt kept Haitian TPS in place throughout Trump's first term, but in 2025, then-Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem ended the status entirely.
In his opinion, Justice Samuel Alito wrote that a racial explanation for the change is unlikely to be proven, given that the respondents themselves suggested that the Trump administration may simply oppose TPS as a point of policy, without respect to any particular group.
Records reveal the massive arsenal Ohio man allegedly built to attack White House UFC event
An Ohio man accused of plotting a terrorist attack at the White House during the UFC fight had built up a stockpile of weapons, ammo and more, according to authorities.
Tycen Proper, 19, is one of the seven men accused of plotting an attack at UFC Freedom 250 at the White House, which took place on June 14. Officials said the FBI first learned about the attack plot on June 10 and worked with local authorities to make the arrests.
A report released by the Knox County Sheriff's Office in Ohio indicates that Proper spent $3,000 on armor, vests, a shotgun, extra ammo and obtained other supplies.

On June 5, according to the report, Proper purchased a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun that had an American flag painted over it, as well as ammunition to go with it.

Officials alleged Proper had stockpiled the two firearms — an American flag-painted 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun with a red dot optic and an AR-15 rifle with a red dot sight and magnifier — along with three plate carriers loaded with .308-rated ballistic plates, a tactical bump helmet, a battle belt with loaded ammunition pouches, 13 loaded AR-15 magazines, more than 1,000 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, dozens of 12-gauge shells including buckshot and rifled slugs, multiple fixed and folding blades, a hatchet, two tactical headsets, chemical lights, compass and extensive medical trauma gear including tourniquets, emergency bandages, wound seals and gauze — all stored at a family member's home.
Proper spent $3,000 of his "graduation money" to build the stockpile, according to a criminal complaint.
His father told law enforcement that Proper quit his job in order to meet up with people that he met online, who conducted "missions" and "recons" together, according to the complaint. Proper's mother alerted authorities over the alleged firearm purchases and his activity online.
"We took all the guns and ammo out of his room and got it off our property," she told a 911 dispatcher, according to records obtained by Fox News Digital. "He just came inside, and he's probably going to discover it's not in his room."
