NBC announces Winter Olympics replacement host for Savannah Guthrie as her mother remains missing
NBC announced on Wednesday that sportscaster and former professional tennis player Mary Carillo will step in for Savannah Guthrie to host the opening of the Winter Olympics this weekend.
Guthrie's mother, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, has gone missing and was last seen Saturday evening at her Arizona home. A relative of Guthrie’s contacted authorities around noon Sunday to report her missing, according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.
Guthrie was originally slated to co-host coverage of the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday in Milan, Italy. The games are being held from Feb. 6 to 22.

Carillo will join NBC Sports correspondent Terry Gannon in co-hosting the opening ceremony and the statement added that, "She and Terry will lead the American audience through one of the world’s greatest global moments."

Soloman went on to note correspondent Ahmed Fareed, who was originally slated to host Olympic daytime coverage, will now anchor Olympic Late Night in place of Guthrie's fellow "Today" co-host Craig Melvin, who will remain in New York to host the morning show amid Guthrie's absence.
"With his skill and versatility, Ahmed has proven time and again he can step into any hosting role, and we’re thrilled he’s available to handle our late night coverage before heading to Los Angeles for NBA All-Star Weekend," the statement added.
76ers trade Jared McCain, their 2024 first-round pick, to Thunder before NBA deadline
Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain is joining the reigning NBA champion.
The Oklahoma City Thunder reportedly agreed to a trade for Jared McCain, sending a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, per ESPN.
McCain, who turns 22 in a few weeks, was the 76ers’ first-round draft choice in 2024 after a stellar season at Duke.

However, injuries have gotten in the way of his play early in his NBA career.
McCain tore his meniscus in his left knee on Dec. 14, 2024, and the Sixers would announce in January 2025 that he would be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Things got worse to start this season, though, as McCain underwent surgery to repair a tear in the UCL in his right thumb, forcing him to miss more time on the court.
In 37 games this season, McCain has averaged just 6.6 points after pouring in 15.3 per night in his rookie season. However, he has been getting back into a groove of late, playing more minutes for Philadelphia and seeing some stat changes.
He joins a Thunder team that already has a good set of guards, including the reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Luguentz Dort also runs the shooting guard post that McCain has been used to.
If McCain will get playing time, it’s likely off the bench, with the Thunder using Cason Wallace and Ajay Mitchell in those roles.
The Thunder picked up right where they left off from the 2024-25 season, owning a 40-11 record, which is the best mark in the NBA this season.
Oklahoma City made their way to the NBA Finals after posting a 68-14 regular-season record, and defeated the Indiana Pacers in seven games to notch the franchise’s first-ever Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Mavericks send Anthony Davis to Wizards in eight-player trade: report
Anthony Davis' injury-riddled run with the Dallas Mavericks appears to be over.
On Wednesday, ESPN reported that the 10-time All-Star forward was included in a blockbuster trade that would send him to the Washington Wizards.
In exchange for Davis, the Mavericks are expected to receive Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III and multiple first- and second-round draft picks.

Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum will reportedly join Davis in Washington. This marks the second blockbuster trade for the Wizards in 2026.

In January, Davis damaged a ligament in his left hand. The Mavericks team doctor later confirmed that Davis avoided surgery to repair the damage. In mid-January, the Mavs said Davis would require an estimated six weeks to "heal from the injury."
The New York Knicks defeated the Wizards 132-101 Tuesday. Washington entered Wednesday in 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

UK to release files related to former ambassador's Jeffrey Epstein ties
The British government has committed to releasing files related to the decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States despite his ties to the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The decision to release the documents came after the Conservative Party said it would force a vote in Parliament compelling the government to publish documents related to Mandelson's appointment, according to The Associated Press. The outlet noted that critics said Mandelson's relationship with Epstein was known at the time of his appointment, though not to the extent that has since been revealed.
On Wednesday, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer was grilled on the revelations and the decision to appoint Mandelson.
"I intend to make sure that all of the material is published," Starmer told lawmakers. He said the release would not include documents that compromise Britain's national security, international relations or the police investigation into Mandelson's activities.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch cast doubt on Starmer's promise, demanding that the government publish all relevant files and "not just the ones the prime minister wants us to see." Badenoch went on to accuse the government of "trying to sabotage that release with an amendment to let him choose what we see."
"The prime minister is talking about national security. The national security issue was appointing Mandelson in the first place," Badenoch said.
Starmer said he knew Mandelson had maintained contact with Epstein after his 2008 prison term but that the former ambassador had "misrepresented the extent" of the relationship and "lied throughout the process, including in response to the due diligence."
"Mandelson betrayed our country, our Parliament and my party. He lied repeatedly to my team when asked about his relationship with Epstein, before and during his tenure as ambassador," Starmer said in the House of Commons on Wednesday. "I regret appointing him. If I knew then what I know now, he would never have been anywhere near government."
In response to a request for comment, Starmer's office referred Fox News Digital to the prime minister's remarks in the House of Commons.
The prime minister added that he had instructed his team to write legislation that would strip Mandelson of his title.
DOJ PUBLISHES TROVE OF EPSTEIN FILES, SAYS MORE TO COME AFTER FRIDAY DEADLINE
Last week, the Justice Department released a trove of documents related to the Epstein case. Among them were emails between the disgraced financier and Mandelson.
The files appeared to show that in 2009, Mandelson passed an internal government report to Epstein and discussed lobbying for reduced taxes on bankers' bonuses, the AP reported. Additionally, the files suggest that Epstein sent payments totaling $75,000 to accounts linked to Mandelson or his partner Reinaldo Avila da Silva.
Following the revelations in the newly released files, Mandelson resigned from the House of Lords on Sunday.

In September, Starmer fired Mandelson from the ambassadorship after a string of emails, released by The Sun newspaper, showed he maintained a friendship with Epstein even after the late financier's 2008 conviction for sex offenses involving a minor.
Following the fresh revelations about Mandelson, police in the U.K. opened an investigation into the former ambassador.
Metropolitan Police Cmdr. Ella Marriot in London said following the latest DOJ documents dump, the Met received "a number of reports" into alleged misconduct in public office, including a referral from the UK government.
"I can confirm that the Metropolitan Police has now launched an investigation into a 72-year-old man, a former Government Minister, for misconduct in public office offenses," Marriot wrote in a statement.
The House of Lords declined to comment on the police investigation when asked by Fox News Digital on Tuesday.

Kolvet told Fox News Digital that the broadcast will be meant to provide families a different viewing option that will give the viewer an immersive and high-energy experience.

Bill Gates calls himself 'foolish' for spending time with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates spoke to 9News Australia about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein on Wednesday and said he was "foolish" to spend time with him.
"I met Jeffrey in 2011," Gates said after Nine Network's political editor, Charles Croucher, pressed the tech billionaire on his relationship with the convicted sex offender. "So, over a period of three years, I had a number of dinners with him. The focus was always, he knew a lot of very rich people, and he was saying he could get them to give money to global health. You know, in retrospect, that was a dead end."
"And I've said many times, but I'll say again: I was foolish to spend time with him. I'm one of many people who regret ever knowing him," Gates added.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) released more than 3 million Epstein investigative records on Friday, including Epstein's personal emails. Some of the emails alleged that Gates had affairs and tried to get medication to treat a sexually transmitted infection. He also allegedly wanted to give the medication to his wife at the time, Melinda French Gates, without her knowing.

A spokesperson for Gates denied the claims in a previous statement to Fox News Digital, which read, "These claims are absolutely absurd and completely false. The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame."
Gates' ex-wife weighed in on the allegations related to her ex-husband during an interview on Tuesday.
"Well, let me say this. I think we're having a reckoning as a society, right?" Melinda French Gates said on NPR's "Wild Card" podcast. "No girl — no girl should ever be put in the situation that they were put in by Epstein and whatever was going on with all of the various people around him — no girl. I mean, it's just, it's beyond heartbreaking, right?"
"I remember being those ages those girls were. I remember my daughters being those ages, right?" she continued. "So, for me, it's personally hard whenever those details come up, right? Because it brings back memories of some very, very painful times in my marriage."
While saddened, she emphasized that these allegations are for people like her ex-husband to deal with.
"But I have moved on from that. I purposely pushed it away and I moved on," French Gate said. "I'm in a really unexpected, beautiful place in my life. So, whatever questions remain there, of what I don't — can't even begin to know all of it. Those questions are for those people and for even my ex-husband. They need the answer to those things, not me. Well, and I am so happy to be away from all the muck."

Croucher also asked about the allegations and whether they were true.
"No, apparently Jeffrey wrote an email to himself. That email was never sent; the email is, you know, false. So I don't know what his thinking was there. You know, was he trying to attack me in some way? But it just reminds me, every minute I spent with him, I regret, and I apologize that I did that," Gates responded.
Croucher also asked Gates why he thought Epstein would say these things about him.
"It's factually true that I was only at dinners, you know, I never went to the island, and I never met any women, and so, the more that comes out, the more clear it will be, that although the time was a mistake, it had nothing to do with that kind of behavior," Gates said.

US military in Syria carries out 5 strikes against 'multiple ISIS targets'
U.S. Central Command announced Wednesday that it carried out five strikes against "multiple" Islamic State targets in recent days as part of a joint military effort to "ensure the enduring defeat of the terrorist network."
CENTCOM said, from Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, its forces "located and destroyed an ISIS communication site, critical logistics node, and weapons storage facilities with 50 precision munitions delivered by fixed-wing, rotary-wing, and unmanned aircraft."
"Striking these targets demonstrates our continued focus and resolve for preventing an ISIS resurgence in Syria," Adm. Brad Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, said in a statement.
"Operating in coordination with coalition and partner forces to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS makes America, the region and the world safer."

CENTCOM said it launched the Operation Hawkeye Strike mission in response to a Dec. 13, 2025, ISIS "ambush" attack against U.S. and Syrian forces in Palmyra, Syria. The attack left two U.S. service members and an American interpreter dead.
"After nearly two months of targeted operations, more than 50 ISIS terrorists have been killed or captured. CENTCOM forces killed Bilal Hasan al-Jasim during a deliberate strike in northwest Syria on Jan. 16. The terrorist leader was directly connected with the ISIS gunman responsible for the Dec. 13 attack," the military agency said.

Cooper said in December at the launch of Operation Hawkeye Strike that the effort is "critical to preventing ISIS from inspiring terrorist plots and attacks against the U.S. homeland."

In December, before Operation Hawkeye Strike, CENTCOM said U.S. and partner forces in Syria "conducted more than 80 operations over the last six months to eliminate terrorists posing a direct threat to the United States and regional security."
Florida hospital worker allegedly stole wallet from 94-year-old patient, racked up $500 on credit cards
A Florida hospital worker was arrested after investigators say she stole a 94-year-old patient’s wallet last month and went on a massive spending spree using the victim’s credit cards.
Bailey Slater, 28, a patient care technician at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, stole the elderly patient’s wallet on Jan. 22, then used the victim’s credit cards to rack up more than $500 in charges the same day, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
The sheriff’s office shared a surveillance photo that they say appears to show a masked-up Slater wheeling a shopping cart overflowing with shopping bags out of a Target store.
Hospital officials identified the alleged theft and contacted law enforcement, working with detectives to help build the case, according to the sheriff’s office.
A warrant was issued for Slater’s arrest, and she turned herself in at the Orient Road Jail on Friday.

Slater faces multiple charges, including first-degree petit theft, two counts of unauthorized use of a credit card and two counts of fraudulent use of personal information of an elderly person.

The investigation remains ongoing.
Rubio confirms Iran demanded venue change for nuclear talks
Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed on Wednesday that Iran requested to change locations for talks with its U.S. counterparts, following several reports on the matter.
"We thought we had an established forum that had been agreed to in Turkey. It was put together by a number of partners who wanted to attend and be a part of it," Rubio said when taking questions from reporters on Wednesday.
"I saw conflicting reports yesterday from the Iranian side saying that they had not agreed to that. So, that's still being worked through. At the end of the day, the United States is prepared to engage in, has always been prepared to engage with Iran."

A source familiar with the discussions told Fox News on Tuesday that Iran had requested to hold nuclear talks with the U.S. in Oman on Friday. Additionally, Axios reported that Iranian officials were pressing to limit the talks to a bilateral U.S.-Iran format, excluding other Arab and regional countries — a move that could complicate U.S. diplomatic efforts in the region.
Rubio would not say what topics had been agreed on. Rather, he laid out matters that, in his view, would need to be discussed in order for the meeting to "actually lead to something meaningful." The topics on Rubio's list include the range of Iran's ballistic missiles, its sponsorship of terror organizations, its nuclear program and the treatment of its people.
The secretary also spoke about the anti-regime protests that have raged in Iran since late December. When the demonstrations began, President Donald Trump said the U.S. would act if protesters were met with violence. Rubio credited Trump's tough talk with the cancellation of protesters' executions, something that the regime has denied.
"The Iranian people and the Iranian regime are very unalike," Rubio said. "The leadership of Iran at the clerical level does not reflect the people of Iran. I know of no other country where there's a bigger difference between the people that lead the country and the people who live there."

Rubio said that the Islamic regime is unable to fix the economic problems plaguing its people because Iranian leaders are using the country's money and resources to sponsor terrorism and proxy groups around the world.
On Tuesday, the U.S. military shot down an Iranian drone after it "aggressively approached a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier with unclear intent," a U.S. Central Command spokesman told Fox News.
Iran later claimed that the drone was conducting surveillance as part of a "routine and lawful mission over international waters."

RILEY GAINES: Georgia voters must reject Jon Ossoff’s awful record against women
As a former collegiate swimmer who raced against, and lost opportunities to, a male competitor, I know exactly what is at stake when women’s sports are not protected: scholarships, records, roster spots, and the promise of Title IX — that women and girls would finally have an equal opportunity to compete on a level playing field. It happened in Georgia. And now, in 2026, the safety of every girl in Georgia remains on the line.
When it has mattered most, Georgia Democrat Sen. Jon Ossoff has abandoned women and girls every single time.
Start with sports. Sen. Ossoff has had three chances to stand up for female athletes --three chances to say girls’ sports are for girls. Three times, he voted no.
In March 2025, he voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, a straightforward, common-sense bill that would have clarified under Title IX that female sports are reserved for females based on biological sex. The measure would have reinforced the law’s original intent.
In March 2024, he voted to kill an amendment that would have withheld federal funds from schools and states that allow men to compete in women’s programs.
In March 2021, he voted against an amendment to stop schools from placing male athletes in female categories.
Three chances to stand with women. Three times he refused.
But it doesn’t stop there. Sen. Ossoff is also pushing to override Georgia’s state-level protections by repeatedly backing the federal Equality Act. He co-sponsored it in 2021 and 2023 and campaigned on it in 2020. The bill would redefine sex to include gender identity across federal civil rights law, with no carveout for sports. Legal experts and elite female athletes — many of them not conservatives — have warned exactly what that means: co-ed competition, lost opportunities, and compromised safety.
REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS URGE JUSTICES TO DEFEND WOMEN'S SPORTS AS SUPREME COURT HEARS KEY CASE
The Equality Act is not a compromise. It is a federal mandate that wipes out Georgia’s right to protect its own girls.
Ossoff’s record goes far beyond the playing field. He’s supported legislation that would force access to bathrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms based on gender identity. Translation: He supports policies that would require your daughter to undress in a locker room with a man. No regard for privacy. No regard for safety.
He supports policies that tell women—including survivors of sexual assault—that their discomfort and fear don’t matter, that male feelings matter more than a woman’s physical safety.
Think about women fleeing abuse, staying in domestic violence shelters with their kids. These women deserve dignity, privacy, and trauma-informed policies. Yet Ossoff has supported measures that would force women’s domestic violence shelters to admit males who identify as women, despite survivors repeatedly that these policies can retraumatize them and push them back onto the streets. That’s not compassion. That’s cruelty dressed up as progress.

Religious freedom isn’t safe either. Sen. Ossoff introduced a bill to override the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, forcing Christian hospitals in Georgia to perform transgender surgeries against their deeply held beliefs.
Put it all together, and the pattern is obvious. On women’s sports, women’s spaces, women’s shelters, and religious freedom, Jon Ossoff sides with Washington mandates over Georgia families. Georgia is trying to protect fairness. He’s trying to federalize it away.

Some say fairness can be preserved with hormone rules or case-by-case exceptions. It cannot.
I lived the reality. Women are asked to be quiet, to disregard our gut instinct when it tells us it’s wrong to nonconsensually undress next to a man in a locker room, to surrender records and roster spots to maintain someone else’s feelings. Title IX was never meant to make women invisible to solve a controversy. It was meant to ensure that we count.
Georgia is leading with courage. Georgia schools can maintain girls’ teams for girls. Georgia courts may soon confirm that simple truth nationwide. Georgia senators should help, not hinder.
Sen. Ossoff has had multiple chances to stand with Georgia women and girls. He chose politics --and fear of radicals in his party --over our daughters, over even his own daughter. With the Supreme Court poised to potentially uphold states’ authority to protect women’s sports, it is time for Georgia’s senator to do the same. It's time for a real man to send Jon Ossoff home.
