Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell reveals how booze helped fuel his legendary 71-point game
There are certain sports where I think it’s widely believed, if not accepted as a cold, hard fact, that alcohol can improve performance.
Hasn't everyone's golf game improved with a little swing oil?
However, I didn't think basketball was one of the sports, at least not until Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell revealed that he dropped a cool 71 points back in 2023 with a little help from grandpa's old cough medicine.
Back on January 2, 2023, Mitchell and the Cavs took on the Chicago Bulls.
The two teams ended up in an overtime thriller that the Cavs won 145-134, with Mitchell dropping a career-high 71 in the process.
"We played them on New Year’s Eve," Mitchell recalled on the "Cousins" podcast hosted by NBA greats Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady. "Then we had New Year’s in Cleveland. Then we played the next day. Now I will say this. I’ve never drank before a game in my life. It was New Year’s. So I did have a drink — a few drinks — the night before the game."

Hey, many a beer leaguer has done that very thing. In fact, like I said, certain sports benefit from a few pops. Bowling is one, perhaps darts.
Hell, I've always argued that part of playing cornhole well is having a beer in your hand for balance.
"Never done that in my career," Mitchell said. "Haven’t done it since. So I tell people like that was probably what, you know, allowed me to have the night I had."
Mitchell is a professional because if that had happened to most of us, we would’ve thought, "Wait, if a few drinks equal 71 points, then it only makes sense that after many drinks I could be holding up a piece of paper with '100' written on it after the game."
Of course, that's not usually how it works...

The "Aerial Assassin" started AEW "Dynamite" on Wednesday with an impassioned promo, calling his All In opponent Kenny Omega "the best wrestler in the world" for the last 10 years and "still is."

Ospreay was later thrust into a 10-man tag team match with Andrade El Idolo, Callum Newman, Francesco Akira and Henare against Gabe Kidd, Bishop Kaun, Ricochet, Toa Liona and Clark Connors. Ospreay’s team won but the beat down was on afterward.

Kidd was about to hit Ospreay with a chair when Moxley stepped into the ring to take it away from him. Technically, Kidd and Connors are aligned with Moxley’s faction, The Death Riders. But Moxley has clearly shown he has a soft spot for Ospreay. Moxley helped Ospreay strengthen his body after he recovered from a neck injury. He also handed Ospreay the Union Jack before Ospreay stepped onto the stage at All In.
As Moxley stared down Ospreay, he handed him his world title back. The crowd then got ramped into a frenzy. The video board featured what was coming next for Ospreay and Moxley.
A match at All Out on Sept. 26 for the AEW World Championship.
Andrade has a guaranteed title shot lined up as well, though it’s unclear when he will embark on that journey. Andrade won the Casino Gauntlet match to earn the right for a title match.
For now, Ospreay and Moxley will battle it out at the end of the month.
Stephen A Smith warns Hasan Piker will ‘contaminate’ Democrats in the midterms, ‘come back to haunt them’
ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith warned Thursday that far-left streamer Hasan Piker could become a general-election liability for Democrats, telling POLITICO host Dasha Burns during "The Conversation with Dasha Burns" that Piker's influence could hurt the party beyond its progressive base and give Republicans ammunition against candidates who embrace him.
Smith said he believed Piker’s growing political footprint would ultimately hurt Democrats.
"It's a negative because I think over the long haul from a general populist perspective, it's going to contaminate the electorate on the left side of the aisle," he said. "It's going to come back to haunt them."

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has already sought to turn Piker's relationship with Democratic candidates into a broader indictment of the party. RNC national press secretary Natalie Baldassarre told Fox News Digital in August that Democrats were refusing to confront Piker's influence as Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed faced scrutiny over campaigning with the streamer.
"El-Sayed is a terrorist sympathizer and an America-hating socialist," Baldassarre said. His refusal to distance himself from Hamas-hugging radicals like Hasan Piker reaffirms his true allegiance is to terrorist groups, not America," she said. "Democrats' refusal to disavow this clown shows they either share his poisonous ideology or they're too cowardly to confront it."
Smith's warnings came as Piker's role in Democratic politics has become an issue in one of the country's most consequential Senate races. A recent Fox News poll of Michigan registered voters found Republican nominee Mike Rogers leading El-Sayed 51%-47%, within the margin of sampling error. While 98% of self-described Democratic Socialists of America supporters backed El-Sayed, his support dropped to 69% among non-DSA Democrats and independents.

El-Sayed previously explained directly to Smith why he has resisted pressure to disavow Piker, who has supported him and appeared alongside him during the campaign.
"What I'm saying is there are three million people who listen to Hasan," El-Sayed said. "I want to offer them a pathway into an electoral movement where, rather than sit outside of the electoral system, they see a pathway around the things that they agree with that he says that I agree with, and a pathway that disavows the things that I disagree with. And so it's important."
Smith summarized El-Sayed's strategy as an effort to win over Piker's audience rather than an endorsement of the streamer personally.
"So, you're not thinking about him. You’re not thinking about him. You’re thinking about the three million people that support him, and you're trying to get those votes. That's what you're saying?" Smith said.

El-Sayed confirmed Smith’s characterization. "Exactly," he said.
Fox News Digital reported last week that El-Sayed attempted to put distance between his campaign and Piker after the streamer faced backlash over comments about American Jews and Israel. Piker endorsed El-Sayed and appeared at multiple campaign events, including his primary-night gathering.

Piker has faced years of controversy over political rhetoric, including his 2019 declaration that "America deserved 9/11," which he later retracted, and more recent remarks involving Israel and American Jews.

California girls’ sports advocates vow fight after judge tosses trans athlete case: 'Far from over'
Advocates for girls' sports vowed to keep fighting after a federal judge dismissed a Department of Justice lawsuit challenging California policies that allow biological male athletes to compete on girls' school sports teams.
A DOJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital the administration remains committed to enforcing President Donald Trump’s policy barring biological males from girls’ sports despite the setback and is considering an appeal.
"We are disappointed by the Court’s order, and remain committed to enforcing President Trump’s agenda preventing boys from playing in girls’ sports," the spokesperson said. "We are evaluating our options for appeal."
Sophia Lorey, California Family Council outreach director and a former college soccer player who organized "Save Girls' Sports" demonstrations in California, told Fox News Digital that the ruling did not resolve what she called the central Title IX dispute.

"California should not mistake a courtroom technicality for a victory," she said. "The judge did not rule that allowing males into girls’ sports is fair, lawful, or consistent with Title IX. This case was dismissed on a technical issue without ever deciding the fundamental question at the heart of this fight."
The court avoided the underlying debate over biological fairness entirely. Instead, U.S. District Judge Cynthia Valenzuela grounded her decision in administrative funding rules, finding that the federal government failed to give California explicit prior notice before threatening to pull $44 billion in education funds.
The Justice Department sued the California Department of Education (CADOE) and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) in July 2025, alleging their transgender athlete policies discriminated against female athletes.
"I hope to see this decision appealed, but regardless, this fight is far from over," Lorey continued. "California lawmakers have the power right now to protect female athletes. A courtroom technicality does not erase biological sex, and it does not make discrimination against girls acceptable. We will not stop until CA girls are protected…California girls are still paying the price, losing medals, opportunities, roster spots, and privacy while state leaders prioritize gender identity over biological reality."
Sonja Shaw, a candidate for California superintendent of public instruction who has been involved in filing federal civil rights complaints over transgender athlete policies, also sharply criticized the dismissal.
"Parents in California are no strangers to this fight, or to these underhanded tactics. We stood up to Gavin Newsom and the CIF when they decided girls’ sports and girls’ locker rooms were political fodder," she said. "A Biden-appointed judge just tossed out a case that should have protected female athletes, and she did it after the Supreme Court already ruled that states can keep women’s teams as a safe space for biological females. That is a political choice dressed up as law, and it is the girls who get robbed."
"This fight is not going away, and neither am I," Shaw continued. "I am not backing down because an activist judge in a kangaroo court dismissed a case. This is a hill we are willing to die on. We will keep fighting for fairness, safety, privacy and the future of female athletes. California parents have been told 'no' before, and we refused to quit then. We’re not quitting now. We will keep standing, we will keep fighting, and we will keep protecting our girls."
SUPREME COURT MAKES RULING ON TRANS ATHLETES IN WOMEN'S SPORTS
The California Interscholastic Federation declined to weigh in on the court’s dismissal when reached by Fox News Digital on Thursday.
"The CIF does not comment on legal matters," CIF Director of Media Rebecca Brutlag said.

The California Department of Education also declined to address the substance of the ruling when reached by Fox News Digital on Thursday, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.
"The California Department of Education cannot comment on pending litigation," a CDE spokesperson said.
The legal fight intensified after transgender Jurupa Valley High School athlete AB Hernandez won girls’ events at California’s state track championships, prompting federal scrutiny and changes by the CIF intended to preserve qualifying and podium positions for biological female athletes.
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

Marijuana users may face hidden driving danger that standard tests can miss
A new study warns that driving after eating cannabis edibles can significantly impair road performance and reaction times, even if blood tests show THC levels far below the legal limit.
The findings, published in JAMA Network Open, highlight a potential challenge for impaired-driving enforcement in Canada and some U.S. jurisdictions.
Most previous cannabis-driving studies have involved smoked or inhaled marijuana, which more rapidly spikes levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis) in the bloodstream.

Edibles are absorbed more slowly and can produce driving impairment even when blood THC concentrations remain relatively low.
Researchers found that drivers who consumed higher doses of edible THC struggled with lane control, had slower reaction times and experienced greater speed fluctuations. Yet, their blood tests stayed below the standard legal cutoff used to prove impairment at roadside traffic stops.
To assess how oral cannabis impacts driving, researchers at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto conducted a trial with 40 healthy adult volunteers who regularly use cannabis.
Each participant attended four separate sessions in which they consumed soft-chew gummies containing either 0, 2, 10 or 20 milligrams of THC.
CANNABIS COMPOUNDS COULD REVERSE DISEASE AFFECTING ONE-THIRD OF ADULTS
The researchers then tested the drivers using a driving simulator at two, five and 24 hours after consumption, tracking how well drivers stayed in their lane, how quickly they reacted to road events and how consistently they maintained their speed.
Blood samples and self-reported ratings of intoxication were also collected.
The results showed driving impairment at two and five hours after consuming 10- and 20-milligram gummies. Compared with placebo, participants who consumed those doses had greater variability in lane position, while the 20-milligram dose was also linked to slower reaction times and less consistent speed control.
Participants also recognized their own limitations, reporting a lower willingness to drive and reduced confidence in their driving skills after taking the gummies.
The highest blood THC concentrations averaged 1.6 nanograms per milliliter after the 10-milligram dose and 3.4 nanograms per milliliter after the 20-milligram dose. Those levels were below the commonly used 5-ng/mL threshold, although THC limits vary by jurisdiction and some individual samples exceeded 5 ng/mL.

By comparison, participants in the team’s previous smoked-cannabis study showed similar levels of impairment while reaching an average peak blood THC concentration of 30.3 nanograms per milliliter, nearly 10 times higher than the 20-milligram edible group.
The study did have some limitations. Tests were conducted on virtual simulators rather than actual roads, meaning drivers faced no real physical risk during the experiments. It also focused on regular cannabis users, so it is unclear how occasional users might react to similar doses.
Additionally, minimal residual effects were detected after 24 hours. While maximum speed remained slightly higher among participants on the 10-milligram and 20-milligram doses, subjective feelings of intoxication had completely faded.

In an accompanying commentary, Dr. José Ignacio Nazif-Munoz of the Université de Sherbrooke noted that these biological differences pose a challenge for law enforcement.

Because edibles are absorbed slowly through the digestive system, standard blood tests may fail to identify unsafe drivers, leaving policymakers searching for more reliable roadside tools.
"The delayed absorption and prolonged duration of effects of edible cannabis distinguish it from smoked or inhaled cannabis, complicating the interpretation of biological measures," he wrote.

Sadeghpour noted that U.S. officials offered guarantees to Tehran that provided a pathway to peace for Iran.

"They still attacked our bases in Jordan and Bahrain. So that speaks to the fact that the real threat to the regime is not the bombs from outside, but rather the population uprising."

"For a regime that's militarized and requires friction, its survival now depends on that friction," he added.
Iran has experienced major uprisings in recent years driven by economic collapse, high inflation, and deep discontent with the regime's strict religious interpretation of Islam. In addition, the Iranian government has suppressed anti-government riots and protests with deadly force and arbitrary arrests and detention, according to human rights observers.
The war with the U.S. helps the regime, Sadeghpour said, by refocusing the Iranian public's attention elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Iran has continued to target commercial ships in the strait in violation of an agreement not to do so, Vice President JD Vance said Thursday.

In order to effect regime change, the U.S. should focus its efforts on the Iranian population, said Sadeghpour, because Iranian leaders will likely drag out the conflict with the U.S. for as long as they can.
"The regime is thinking about the day, the hour after the exhausted population gets calm, and will immediately look around, 'how am I going to get rid of this regime? And who's going to help me do that?' And so that is what the regime is afraid of," he said.

FIRST ON FOX: FBI Director Kash Patel has dramatically expanded direct outreach to foreign partners in an effort to bring international fugitives back to the United States.
FBI data exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital shows Patel made 100 calls to international partners in his first 18 months, compared with nine by his predecessor during the final 18 months of the Biden administration.
Compared to the last 18 months of the Biden administration, extraditions were up 65%, and FTOCs (foreign transfer of custody), in which a fugitive or suspect is apprehended overseas and transferred into U.S. custody, are up 54%, the FBI said.
In that time, the FBI has executed 157 extraditions and 86 FTOCs.

On Monday, a Honduran citizen on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list was extradited to Philadelphia after 25 years on the run for the alleged rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl, Fox News exclusively reported.
Alexis Flores was arrested in February, and Honduran authorities agreed to extradite him to the U.S. The FBI said Flores had been removed from the fugitives list in March 2025 due to the prior Honduran government’s refusal to extradite him for his offenses, citing local laws limiting extradition.

Since June, the FBI has conducted more than 70 extraditions, Patel said at the time of Flores' extradition to the U.S.
In March, Zobaidul Amin, a Bangladeshi national, was extradited from Malaysia to the U.S. to face charges related to one of the most prolific online child exploitation schemes.
Prosecutors allege Amin posed as a teenager on Instagram and Snapchat and coerced hundreds of minor victims — some as young as 11 — into producing sexually explicit images and videos. Authorities said he then threatened to share those images with friends, family and classmates unless the victims sent more.
Another recent example is the case of Abdullah Anwar, 28, a Texas resident who was brought back from Qatar to face fraud charges. Anwar fled the U.S. for Pakistan but was arrested in Qatar before authorities there agreed to extradite him to Texas.
FBI WRAPS UP CYBERCRIME OPERATION TARGETING GLOBAL NETWORKS PREYING ON AMERICANS
The FBI has prioritized the extradition of suspects and fugitives abroad. From 2022 to 2025, former FBI Director Christopher Wray made 20 calls to foreign partners, including nine in his last 18 months during the Biden administration, the agency said.
Patel has made 100 calls in his first 18 months, a 400% increase over those made during Wray's four years and a 1,011% call increase over Wray's final 18 months with the Biden administration.
Typically, the FBI works with foreign authorities and governments to track and arrest suspects hiding in other countries. Once someone is arrested, the Justice Department will formally request that person be handed over to U.S. custody using existing international treaties.
Once the foreign government approves the handover, FBI agents travel abroad, take physical custody of the fugitive and fly them back to the U.S. for trial.

Musician, pregnant wife and 3-year-old daughter shot and killed inside home
A musician, his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter and the family’s nanny were found shot and killed inside a residential building outside Mexico City.
The four victims were discovered alongside an unharmed 6-year-old boy in the Zona Esmeralda area of Atizapán de Zaragoza, according to the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office.
"The victims were a 38-year-old male music producer and composer with the initials J.S.M.O., his 35-year-old pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter and a 21-year-old woman," the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement shared to X.

Two of the victims were found bound, authorities said. Those victims and the 3-year-old girl had gunshot wounds to the head, while the fourth victim had been shot in the back, the prosecutor’s office said, according to a statement translated from Spanish.
Authorities believe the killings occurred Tuesday, Sept. 1, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m.
Authorities arrested two men, Diego Sebastián "N" and Gerardo "N," in the killings.

Billboard identified the musician as Jonathan Meléndez, a keyboardist for the Mexican band Camilo Séptimo.
The band also confirmed his death in a statement shared on Instagram.
"We will always remember Honas with immense love and gratitude," the band stated. "Today we honor and celebrate his life, his music, his light and the time shared with those of us fortunate enough to know him and walk the path alongside him."
Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive but described one of the suspects as an "associate of J.S.M.O."

"They allegedly took advantage of a relationship of trust between one of them and the victims to gain access to the residence," the police statement said.
Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s secretary of security and citizen protection, said authorities moved quickly to apprehend the suspects.

"Given the gravity of the crime, the institutions acted immediately and in a coordinated manner," Harfuch said in a statement shared to Facebook. "The two suspects are now in custody and will be brought to justice."
