Venus Williams' US Open run comes to close after losing doubles match to top seed

Venus Williams has turned back the clock in Queens, but her Cinderella run at this year's U.S. Open has ended.

The 45-year-old partnered with Leylah Fernandez for the doubles bracket and made it all the way to the quarterfinals before the top-seeded duo of Taylor Townsend and Kateřina Siniaková took them down 6-1, 6-2.

When the match finished after 56 minutes in Louis Armstrong Stadium, Williams smiled as she walked to the net to shake hands with Siniaková, then hugged Townsend. Thousands of spectators rose to give Williams a standing ovation; Townsend and Siniaková then joined in, applauding for Williams.

"Growing up watching Venus and [her sister] Serena, for me and my sister, it was an inspiration," Townsend told the crowd. "It was an honor to share the court today."

Siniaková called Williams "a legend" and said it was "a privilege" to play against her.

The 45-year-old Williams earlier exited in the first round of both singles – bowing out against Karolína Muchová in three sets – and mixed doubles. She was out of competition for 16 months until returning to play at a tournament in Washington in July. Her most recent major tournament was the 2023 US Open.

Williams and Fernandez, a 22-year-old from Canada who was the 2021 singles runner-up in New York, received a wild-card entry from the U.S. Tennis Association and had not lost a set in their first three matches of their debut as a team.

COCO GAUFF 'BROKE DOWN' TO TEAM AFTER STUNNING US OPEN UPSET LOSS TO NAOMI OSAKA

Townsend, who is currently ranked No. 1 in doubles, and Siniaková are an experienced duo who won Wimbledon in 2024 and the Australian Open this year together. Siniaková has won a total of 10 Grand Slam titles in women's doubles.

Townsend found herself in a controversy in the singles bracket when Jelena Ostapenko said she was upset Townsend didn’t apologize after being helped by a net cord during a point. She also took issue with Townsend warming up before the match at the net, instead of at the baseline. After their match, the two got into a heated discussion.

Williams, of course, is the owner of 14 Grand Slam titles in women's doubles alongside her sister, Serena, who left the professional tour in 2022.

The older Williams sibling has also won seven major singles championships and another two in mixed doubles.

She was the oldest player in the singles draw at the U.S. Open since 1981.

Trump to attend Yankees game in New York on 24th anniversary of Sept. 11 attacks: sources

President Donald Trump will be attending the New York Yankees game in the Bronx on Sept. 11, the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, sources told Fox News Digital.

The Yankees, in the midst of an AL East race, will face the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers in a potential postseason preview.

Trump has attended numerous sporting events over the years, but has not attended a baseball game during his second presidency.

In 2019, Trump, then president for the first time, attended Game 5 of the World Series between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros in the nation's capital. He also attended the Astros-Braves World Series in 2021, roughly a year after losing the 2020 election to former President Joe Biden.

Trump said in 2020 that he was set to throw out the first pitch at a Yankees game, but it never occurred due to a "strong focus" on the pandemic.

Before his political career, Trump also attended Game 7 of the National League Championship Series between the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals at Shea Stadium.

Trump has been at the forefront of UFC recently, as fights are slated to take place on the White House Lawn on July 4 next year to commemorate the United States' 250th birthday.

The Yankees were in the World Series last year but lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.

Next year, the Yankees and Mets will play a game on Sept. 11 at Yankee Stadium to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11. They did the same in 2021 at Citi Field, with the Mets wearing specialized "New York" uniforms, as opposed to their normal home "Mets" jerseys.

Sources say Vice President JD Vance will represent the administration at a commemoration ceremony at Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan, with Trump scheduled to attend a memorial event at the Pentagon in northern Virginia earlier in the day.

Trump will also attend the Ryder Cup in New York on Sept. 26, he said. He attended the FIFA Club World Cup championship in July at MetLife Stadium.

Taylor Swift pointed out hilarious non-alcoholic beer slip-up during football game viewing, Jason Kelce says

During the latest edition of the "Bussin' with the Boys" podcast, retired NFL star Jason Kelce recalled one of his more "embarrassing" moments that was pointed out by his soon-to-be sister-in-law, Taylor Swift.

"I've got a very embarrassing story from last night about beer. So I'm drinking beer, and I'm not really hammering 'em. I'm just kind of putting one back every 30 minutes or something," Kelce said.

Kelce recalled the "amount of shame" he experienced when he came to the realization about what he'd been consuming.

"I'm just kind of enjoying beers last night, and I think it was third quarter [of a game he was watching], I find out that I've been drinking non-alcoholic beer the entire day," he continued with a laugh. "It was the most amount of shame I've ever felt in myself. I was just like, ‘What the f--- is wrong with you, Jason!?’ "

The retired Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman then pointed out that his brother, Travis Kelce, had also made the same miscalculation.

NFL STAR BIJAN ROBINSON PRAISES TRAVIS KELCE, TAYLOR SWIFT AS ENGAGEMENT MAKES WAVES: 'HUGE FOR THEM'

"We had both been drinking these Budweiser Zeros, thinking they were just something like zero calorie Budweiser," he added.

During an appearance on the "New Heights" podcast, Swift said a noticeably nervous Jason struggled to reach a decision on what to do with his alcoholic beverage when he had the opportunity to meet the royal family during the United Kingdom leg of "The Eras Tour."

"I watched him have this moment with his beer where he was like, ‘But I want to take it, but I know that I probably should not take it,’" Swift said. "I watched this happen, and it kind of was the most amazing…"

Jason, who married Kylie Kelce in 2018, joyfully expressed his belief in his brother and the pop star's connection.

"I know the kind of person he is, and I've been blessed to get to know Taylor over the last couple years. And I just think that they match so well together," Kelce said.

"They are unbelievably supportive of each other and that both of their outlandishly successful worlds," the proud brother continued.

Swift and Travis announced their pending nuptials via a joint social media post on Aug. 26.

Travis begins his 15th NFL season on Friday, when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil.

Australian basketball player fractures back after backboard crashes down during practice

Ben Griscti, who plays for the Australian professional men's basketball team, the Adelaide 36ers, is on the road to recovery after he was on the receiving end of a backboard mishap recently during practice.

The 36-year-old ended up with a fractured vertebra after a backboard collapsed following a fellow basketball player’s dunk during last Saturday’s practice at the Australian Institute of Sport Arena in Canberra, the Adelaide 36ers confirmed.

The injury forced Griscti to the sideline for the start of Australia’s National Basketball League season.

"Ben was injured when a backboard collapsed on top of him during the team’s shootaround at the AIS Arena, ahead of the side’s final NBL Blitz game," a news release from the Adelaide 36ers read.

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, a hospital was located within a five-minute car trip from the arena, but it took roughly 90 minutes for an ambulance to arrive.

"There were a number of other emergencies in the territory at the time of that call," an ACT Ambulance Service official told the outlet.

NEBRASKA PUNTER ARCHIE WILSON BREAKS DOWN IN TEARS WHILE DISCUSSING FAMILY IN AUSTRALIA: 'I MISS THEM'

"As soon as we were able to dispatch a paramedic crew to that patient they attended, and they transported that patient in a stable condition through to the emergency department," the spokesperson added.

Fox News Digital requested comment from the ACT Ambulance Service and the Australian government’s Office for Sport, but did not immediately receive a response.

Officials said Griscti was "conscious, alert and breathing" before and during the hospital transport. The team doctor tended to Griscti before the emergency response vehicle arrived at the arena.

The injury is not expected to require surgery, the team said. Griscti has returned home since he sustained the back fracture. There is currently no timetable for Griscti’s return to the hardwood.

"He has traveled home to Adelaide and a timeline for him to return to the court will not be set until he is able to get further medical advice to determine the next steps around the management of the injury," the statement concluded.

However, Griscti noted via an NBL social media account that he intended to "be back soon." He also expressed gratitude for the "messages of support."

The NBL released a statement, saying in part the league was "deeply saddened" after learning of Griscti’s injury.

Kim Jong Un's young daughter being groomed to lead regime after military parade visit in China: expert

Kim Jong Un set foot in Beijing Tuesday for his first visit to China in years, accompanied by his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, also thought to be his successor, per South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS).

The young girl is believed to be around 12 or 13 and her debut appearance outside of her home country signals a possible role as North Korea’s heir-in-waiting, a parenting expert suspects. She was first publicly introduced in North Korea in 2022.

Dressed in a smart black suit, Kim Ju Ae followed her father as they were welcomed by Communist Party officials ahead of China’s military parade, marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II.

On Wednesday, she may stand alongside Russia's President Vladimir Putin and China's President Xi Jinping.

WHITE HOUSE RESPONDS TO 'ROCKET MAN' AND NORTH KOREA'S THREATS OVER DENUCLEARIZATION

A parenting expert warned that bringing Kim Ju Ae onto the global stage at a young age could carry consequences.

"She’s being shaped into a role, rather than being supported to figure out who she is as an individual and that pressure could have a huge impact on her mental health," Kirsty Ketley told Fox News Digital.

"Even the most carefully groomed successor, like she could be, would struggle when thrust into leadership and even when later in life.

"It’s likely she’ll be under constant coaching, but that doesn’t remove the emotional weight of having your future decided for you at such a young age."

NORTH KOREAN AVOIDS LAND MINES TO CROSS DMZ INTO SOUTH KOREA AS SEOUL SOFTENS STANCE ON PYONGYANG

North Korea's famous father and daughter left Pyongyang on Monday for the international event, crossing into China by armored train to watch the country’s biggest-ever display of military power.

The event will last 70 minutes and include soldiers, tanks, anti-drone systems and aircraft passing through Tiananmen Square as President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin look on.

So far, Kim Ju Ae has been seen at a missile launch in November 2022 and other public events in North Korea in June.

NIS has claimed Kim Ju Ae enjoys skiing, horse riding, and swimming, and is privately homeschooled in Pyongyang, per the Associated Press. She is also said to appear on postage stamps in North Korea.

Ketley said Kim's daughter should be looking ahead to high school and testing boundaries in relatively safe environments.

SOUTH KOREA FACES HIGH-STAKES ELECTION; FEARS OVER CHINA, NORTH KOREA AND US TIES SHAPE VOTER CONCERNS

"Kim Ju Ae doesn’t get those usual luxuries because her playground is now military parades and meetings with world leaders," Ketley warned.

"While she may be carefully shielded and trained, internally she could well be experiencing anxiety, confusion, or even loneliness. Intense public pressure can stunt children’s emotional growth."

Despite Tuesday's global introduction, the public is not aware of Kim Ju Ae's exact age. It's thought she is the second of Kim Jong Un's and his wife, Ri Sol-Ju's, three kids because rhe dictator remains secretive about his family.

Retired NBA star Dennis Rodman inadvertently revealed the girl's existence over a decade ago in an interview with The Guardian.

During a 2013 trip to Pyongyang, Rodman told reporters he had "held the baby Ju Ae," calling Kim Jong Un a "good dad."

"If I were advising Kim Jong Un, I’d urge him to balance his daughter's exposure to power with opportunities for normality, including friendships, play and chances to fail, which are the building blocks of resilience," said Ketley.

MSNBC host urges Pritzker to do the 'radical' thing and work with Trump

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough urged Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, a Democrat, to do something "radical" Tuesday — partner with President Donald Trump to address violent crime in Chicago.

Over the past few weeks, Trump has repeatedly suggested sending the National Guard to Chicago after deploying hundreds of federal troops to Washington, D.C., to combat crime. Pritzker has pushed back, calling the idea "a dangerous power grab."

Though Scarborough agreed that Trump likely lacks the constitutional authority to deploy the National Guard in Chicago, he argued on "Morning Joe" that Pritzker should, at the very least, be open to working with the president.

MSNBC’S JOE SCARBOROUGH ADMITS ‘SO MANY’ DEMOCRATS ARE SECRETLY CHEERING TRUMP’S DC CRIME CRACKDOWN

"I actually think that JB Pritzker should do something radical," Scarborough said. "I think he should pick up the phone, call the president, and say, ‘You know, and I know you don’t have the constitutional authority to deploy the National Guard here and to police my [city]. You can do that in D.C. You can’t do that in Chicago. But let’s partner up.’"

Scarborough’s comments came after reports that at least 58 people were shot and eight killed in Chicago over the Labor Day weekend, despite both Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson insisting the city did not need federal assistance.

The MSNBC host criticized both Democratic leaders for downplaying crime.

"Because right now, just the ‘Hey, nothing to see here,’ moving along, no problem here, ‘Hey Donald Trump, we don’t need you,’ and the mayor talking about ‘we’re going to protect people’s dignity in our city.’ Well, protect their lives! That’s protecting their dignity!" Scarborough said.

He added, "It would be radical for us to figure out a way to actually do what I’ve been saying from the very beginning [with] Washington, and that is seeing politicians creating partnerships that protect their people."

CHICAGO RESIDENTS BEG FOR MORE HELP AS CRIME WREAKS 'HAVOC’ ON NEIGHBORHOODS

Fox News Digital reached out to Pritzker’s office for comment.

Johnson signed an executive order Friday rejecting Trump’s threat to deploy federal troops or the National Guard.

"We do not need nor want an unconstitutional and illegal military occupation of our city," Johnson said, vowing that Chicago would "do everything in our power to defend our democracy and protect our communities."

Days before signing the order, Johnson repeatedly dodged questions from Scarborough about whether more police officers on the street would reduce crime in Chicago.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s slimmer look at Venice Film Festival has fans doing double takes

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson shocked fans when he stepped out in Venice, Italy over the weekend.

On Saturday, the 53-year-old actor debuted a noticeably slimmer physique as he attended the Miu Miu Women's Tales event at the Venice Film Festival ahead of the premiere of his new movie "The Smashing Machine."

In a video that was taken during the event and later shared on social media, Johnson was seen clad in a light blue short-sleeved button-down silk shirt with a colorful print, which he paired with black pants. "The Fast and Furious" star beamed as he posed for the cameras with his hands in his pockets.

After the post went viral, fans expressed their surprise over the WWE star's appearance.

"Yep had to do a double take.." one X user commented.

"He’s so lean," a fan commented.

DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON'S PLANE FORCED TO RETURN TO HAWAII DUE TO 'MECHANICAL ISSUE'

"The Rock slimming down and still owning every room…legendary glow-up unlocked," another chimed in.

"New look, same legend," one social media user wrote, while another added, "He looks great"

Fox News Digital has reached out to Johnson's representatives for comment.

Johnson, who has not commented on his appearance, will play real-life former wrestler and MMA fighter Mark Kerr in "The Smashing Machine." The movie was directed and written by Benny Safdie, and has already generated awards buzz for Johnson.

The "Red Notice" star previously shared that he spent up to four hours in the makeup chair and wore 13 to 14 prosthetics to portray Kerr.

The biographical sports drama also stars Johnson's "Jungle Cruise" co-star Emily Blunt as Kerr's then-wife Dawn Staples. "The Smashing Machine" follows Kerr's rise to UFC glory and his subsequent struggles with opioid addiction and personal demons. The film also chronicles the ups and downs of Kerr's volatile relationship with Dawn.

On Monday, Johnson along with Blunt, Safdie and Kerr himself, walked the red carpet at the premiere of "The Smashing Machine," which was held in Sala Grande on the Venice Lido. In a video shared on X, Johnson was seen wiping away tears and clapping as the film received a 15-minute standing ovation. Safdie was also seen crying during the ovation, which was one of the longest since the festival kicked off on Aug. 27.

"The Smashing Machine" also received a nomination for the Golden Lion, the highest prize at the festival.

Ahead of the film's premiere, Johnson appeared at a press conference for the movie in which he reflected on taking on a very different role after making his name as an action star.

"This transformation was something I was really hungry to do," Johnson said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "I had been very fortunate to have the career that I’ve had over the years and to make the films that I’ve made, but there was just a voice inside of me, a little voice that said, ‘Well, what if I could do more — I want to do more and what does that look like?'"

Johnson also shared his thoughts on the challenges that actors can face when breaking the cycle of typecasting.

"You chase the box office, and the box office, in our business that we know, is very loud, and it can be very resounding, and it can push you into a category and into a corner," Johnson noted, via USA Today. "'This is your lane, and this is what you do, and this is what people want you to be, and this what Hollywood wants you to be.' I understood that, and I made those movies, and I liked them and they were fun."

"I just had this burning desire and this voice that was saying, 'What if? What if there is more? What if I can?'" he continued. "A lot of times it's harder for us, or at least for me, to know what you're capable of when you've been pigeonholed into something."

Johnson credited Blunt and Safdie for supporting him, saying their encouragement gave him confidence to take on the part.

"Sometimes it takes people who you love and you respect, like Emily and Benny, to say you can,'" he said.

"The Smashing Machine" will be released in theaters Oct. 3.

Trump references Alabama’s stunning defeat in Space Command announcement as Tuberville gloats about Auburn

President Donald Trump made a brief reference to Alabama’s stunning loss to Florida State over the weekend when he announced Tuesday that Space Command headquarters would move from Colorado to Huntsville, Alabama.

Trump was thanking Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville for his efforts in the relocation process when he noted that the former Auburn coach wasn't too familiar with such upsets.

"Tommy Tuberville, who's a great coach. And I won't say anything about what happened with Alabama football this weekend. But you're not used to that, right?" Trump said referring to the success Tuberville had as Auburn head coach.

Tuberville took the opportunity to support his former team, noting Auburn's win over Baylor on Friday night. The stark comparison between both games drew a laugh from the room full of media.

"Auburn won, that’s right. So, you’re happy," Trump responded.

Auburn went on the road and beat Baylor 38-24 on Friday to begin its season 1-0, unlike Alabama, its bitter rival.

ACC FINES FLORIDA STATE $50,000 UNDER NEW POLICY AFTER FANS STORM FIELD FOLLOWING UPSET OVER ALABAMA

Florida State’s massive upset over Alabama became one of the biggest storylines in college football over the weekend. Last season was disastrous for the Seminoles, as they went 2-10, making the upset all the more surprising.

With their opening night victory, they had already achieved half of last season’s win total.

Alabama is in its second season since legendary coach Nick Saban retired. Kalen DeBoer took over for Saban and went 9-4 in his first season at the helm. Alabama missed the College Football Playoff and lost the ReliaQuest Bowl to Michigan to end its season.

The Crimson Tide dropped to No. 21 in the AP college football poll after the loss. They look to turn things around when they take on Louisiana-Monroe at home on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. ET.

Auburn aims to keep positive momentum going when the Tigers take on Ball State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET at home.

Retired UFC star Jon Jones exonerated after New Mexico prosecutors drop charges in traffic case

UFC star Jon Jones has cleared a major legal hurdle stemming from a traffic incident in New Mexico.

Jones was facing charges in connection with accusations that he fled the scene of an accident in February. A press release obtained by Fox News Digital on Tuesday confirmed those charges had been dropped.

Tuesday also marked a scheduled bench trial appearance for the professional mixed martial artist, but the state of New Mexico filed a nolle prosequi, which formally dismissed the case.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Jones' attorney of record, Christopher A. Dodd, suggested the dismissal substantiated his long-held belief in his client's innocence.

"We have been fully vindicated. From the very beginning, we explained that a woman made a false allegation against Jon in an effort to avoid being arrested for DWI, and unfortunately, the police accepted that claim without properly weighing the facts. Once the relevant documents were finally disclosed by the police department, Jon’s cell phone records made it undeniably clear that he was nowhere near the scene of the crash. We are grateful that the district attorney’s office took the time to conduct a full and fair review of this case, which ultimately confirmed Jon’s innocence."

EX-UFC STAR'S SON ENGULFED IN CONTROVERSY OVER 'HORRIBLE' PRO WRESTLING INCIDENT

Dodd added that his office continues to review the Albuquerque Police Department's conduct leading up to and immediately after Jones' arrest.

"At the same time, it is deeply troubling that such critical evidence was disregarded, forcing Jon to endure this ordeal unnecessarily. Our investigation into how this occurred remains ongoing."

A woman involved in a vehicle crash in February claimed Jones was driving one of the cars connected to the incident and alleged he left the scene after the wreck. The responding police officer noted the woman displayed signs of "significant intoxication."

At the time, Dodd vehemently denied the claim that Jones was driving a vehicle during the night in question.

"Jon was not driving that night; he wasn’t in the car," Dodd said in a statement in June. "It appears that an intoxicated woman used a false allegation against Jon to avoid being arrested for DWI, and the police fell for it. Based on the criminal complaint, it looks like they went so far as to seek a warrant for Jon’s cell phone records while conducting a misdemeanor traffic investigation. I have never heard of such a thing."

Jones retired from professional competition in June. He made the decision after competing sparingly since 2020. Jones held the UFC's undisputed title at the time he stepped away. Despite the retirement, Jones has made moves suggesting he could return to fighting in 2026.

Trump, Leavitt pile on 'nasty' CBS News host Margaret Brennan as 'stupid,' 'so bad'

President Donald Trump and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt took turns knocking CBS News' "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan on Friday, calling her "stupid" and "so bad."

Speaking with the Daily Caller, Trump took a victory lap over his settlement with CBS' parent company, Paramount, after accusing the company of election interference for its handling of a "60 Minutes" interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris. He then pivoted to speculating about the future of Norah O'Donnell, who left "CBS Evening News" earlier this year but remains at the network.

"Pay her $12 million a year, and she’s not going to be there very long," Trump told the Daily Caller. "But if she’s not already out, I mean, she’s pretty close, I would say she’s pretty close."

MARCO RUBIO ACCUSES CBS REPORTER OF PUSHING ‘STUPID MEDIA NARRATIVE’ IN FIERY CLASH OVER ZELENSKYY

Trump then invoked Brennan, saying, "The woman on the ‘Face the Nation’ is so bad."

He turned to Leavitt, who was present during the interview, and asked, "What do you think of her?"

"She’s stupid. You can put that on the record," Leavitt said.

"She's nasty," Trump added.

LEAVITT BALKS AT REPORTERS' LA RIOT COVERAGE, ‘DISINGENUOUS ATTACK’ IN BRIEFING: ‘WHAT A STUPID QUESTION’

Trump went on to praise Secretary of State Marco Rubio, saying, "He handled her" during a recent interview. After Daily Caller White House reporter Reagan Reese noted Rubio's frequent appearances on "Face the Nation," Trump replied, "Because he’s good and he’s smart."

Neither Brennan nor CBS News responded to requests for comment.

Last month, Rubio had a contentious exchange with Brennan over Trump's highly-anticipated meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other European leaders after his Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"You know there is concern from the Europeans that President Zelenskyy is going to be bullied into signing something away. That's why you have these European leaders coming as backup tomorrow," Brennan said.

"That is not true," Rubio interjected, as the two spoke over each other. "But that's not true, they're not coming here tomorrow to keep Zelenskyy from being bullied."

"We had one meeting with Putin and like a dozen meetings with Zelenskyy… They're not coming here tomorrow to keep Zelenskyy from being bullied. They are coming here because we've been working with the Europeans. We talked to them last week… The President talked to these leaders as early as Thursday… This is such a stupid media narrative," Rubio said.
