Bipartisan support, outrage pour in after 'targeted' DC shooting of National Guardsmen: 'Horrific'
Lawmakers from across the political spectrum began expressing support amid news that two West Virginia National Guard members were shot blocks away from the White House Wednesday afternoon.
After news of the shooting, members of the West Virginia delegation were quick to respond, as was Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump, who referred to the suspected shooter as an "animal."
"The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform as details of the shooting emerged.
"God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!"
SHOOTING OF TWO NATIONAL GUARDSMEN IN DC ‘ABSOLUTELY REPREHENSIBLE,’ FORMER FBI AGENT FUMES
West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey, a Republican, said he and his wife were "devastated" to hear the news.
FBI Director Kash Patel said the two West Virginia National Guardsmen remain in critical condition, correcting an earlier report from Morrisey that the pair had died.
Both of West Virginia's two Republican senators also chimed in, offering thoughts and prayers but did not shed any additional details. Democrats from the state expressed messages of support as well.
"Tonight, our hearts are heavy for the two members of the West Virginia National Guard shot in Washington, D.C.," Del. Mike Pushkin, D-Kanawha, the West Virginia Democratic Party chairman, told Fox News. "This cowardly and tragic act of violence should never happen in this country, and our hearts grieve for the families who are dealing with this senseless tragedy.
"This tragedy transcends party lines. Two families will now have to spend Thanksgiving in agony for their loved ones, who did nothing wrong and answered their call of duty. We honor these soldiers’ service, sacrifice and courage. We hope and pray for the best. These young men and their brothers and sisters in uniform represent the very best of us and the very best of West Virginia."
Democrats outside West Virginia spoke up as well, including some of the party's top national leaders, such as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who slammed "political violence" in his response despite no confirmed reports about a motive.
VANCE SAYS HE IS PRAYING FOR NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS SHOT IN DC
"There must be zero tolerance for violence — of any kind — against the brave men and women in uniform who selflessly serve our communities and our country," Newsom said of the shooting. "The shooting of National Guard members in Washington, D.C. is horrific and unacceptable. Jen and I are praying for the service members, their families, and the entire National Guard community."
Maryland Democratic Gov. Wes Moore reached across the aisle as well to offer assistance to Morrisey.
"We condemn this violence in the strongest possible terms and we are holding the Guard, their families, and their loved ones close in our hearts," Moore said. "I have reached out to [Morrisey] and [Capito] to offer any support. We are closely monitoring the situation for updates."
Metropolitan Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Jeffery Carroll said Wednesday the lone gunman allegedly "came around the corner" in an "ambush" style attack and opened fire on the two National Guardsmen. Other members of the National Guard nearby reportedly heard the gunfire and intervened, restraining the suspect after he had been shot, Carroll said.
It remains unclear who fired the shot that wounded the suspect, and suspect individual has not yet been identified.

Lions great comes out of retirement to help in playoff push: reports
The Detroit Lions received a major boost to their offense on Wednesday.
Four-time Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow came out of retirement and is rejoining the team, per multiple reports. The Lions seemingly confirmed the reports by posting a picture of Ragnow running out of the tunnel to social media.
Ragnow, 29, abruptly retired from the team in June. He posted to social media that he had tried to convince himself he was ready to play, but said it was instead time to prioritize his health. He had spent his entire seven-year career with the Lions after being drafted by the team in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

"I have given this team everything I have and I thought I had more to give, but the reality is I simply don’t," Ragnow said in a June Instagram post. "I have to listen to my body and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life."
"These past couple of months have been very trying as I've come to the realization that my football journey is ending and I'm officially retiring from the NFL," Ragnow continued. "The Lions organization has been absolutely incredible throughout this process and I can't emphasize this enough how grateful I am for this team and all the fans. It was an absolute honor going to battle for you all."

Following the 2021 season, Lions general manager Brad Holmes made Ragnow the league’s highest-paid center at the time with a four-year, $54 million contract.
The center made the Pro Bowl in consecutive seasons after signing the contract as he remained one of the best centers in the sport despite battling injuries throughout his career. The contract he signed runs through the 2026 season, so when he returns to Detroit, his deal remains in place.
If a player is on the club’s reserve-retired list, he has to be reinstated before the team’s Week 13 game in order to play this season, according to ESPN. With the Lions playing on Thanksgiving against the Green Bay Packers, Wednesday was the final day Ragnow could have returned and be eligible to play.
Ragnow’s return is a huge boost to the 7–4 Lions, who are currently third in the NFC North. It is unclear when Ragnow will make his 2025 season debut.
The Lions play the Packers at 1 p.m. ET tomorrow on FOX.

Washington Democrat says he believes Trump issued illegal orders to the military
Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., told "CNN News Central" Wednesday he believes President Donald Trump has issued illegal military orders when asked about a recent video from members of his party.
Six Democratic lawmakers appeared in a video last week urging service members to "refuse illegal orders" from Trump, though the video did not specify any direct orders from the president. In response, the Department of War announced Monday that it would launch a formal review into Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., who appeared in the video.
Smith denounced the Trump administration for pursuing Kelly for what he described as protected political speech, prompting CNN host Boris Sanchez to ask whether he believed Trump had issued illegal orders as the video implied.

"Yes, I do," Smith said. "But, more to the point on the video, I mean, why can’t an elected representative express that opinion? It’s an opinion that’s been expressed many times over many conflicts. Yeah, I think the order to blow up those boats in the Caribbean without any, you know, actual probable cause, national security justification or any declaration of war or armed conflict by the U.S. Congress, I think it is illegal. That’s a legitimate opinion to hold, and it’s a legitimate opinion to express.
"It should not face the threat of legal action if you exercise your First Amendment rights, especially the six who are elected representatives of the people. They actually have an obligation to stand up for what they believe in to do their jobs as elected representatives."
Smith also called the War Department's actions against Kelly a "threat to everybody" and compared them to the actions of a "totalitarian government."
Fox News Digital reached out to Smith's office and the Department of War for comment.

While Smith said he believed Trump has issued illegal orders, Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., who appeared with Kelly in the video, told ABC's "This Week" on Sunday she was "not aware" of any illegal military orders from the president.
"To my knowledge, I am not aware of things that are illegal, but certainly there are some legal gymnastics that are going on with these Caribbean strikes and everything related to Venezuela," Slotkin responded.
Alcohol sales spike on Thanksgiving Eve as experts warn of rampant 'drinksgiving' trend
While most Americans are familiar with Thanksgiving, a lesser-known tradition called "drinksgiving" has grown in popularity in recent years.
Also known as "Blackout Wednesday," drinksgiving is celebrated the night before Thanksgiving, when many people flock to bars to blow off steam and reconnect with hometown friends ahead of the holiday weekend.
Last year's drinksgiving appeared especially active, with on-premise alcohol sales spiking on Thanksgiving Eve, according to a 2024 report from data company BeerBoard.

The company, which manages data on more than $1 billion in alcohol sales and tracks over 100,000 products, found that spirit sales increased 39.6% last year compared to Thanksgiving Eve 2023, with tequila driving the surge.
Packaged beers and ciders saw an 18% increase in sales, while wine sales rose 28.7% last year.
"It's traditionally known as the busiest bar night of the year," Vicki Parmelee, owner of Jumby Bay Island Grill in Jupiter, Florida, told Fox News Digital.
What's driving the increase? Jonathan Alpert, a New York City-based psychotherapist, told Fox News Digital that Thanksgiving Eve often "blends nostalgia with emotional release."

"People come home, fall back into familiar roles and reconnect with friends who knew them before adult pressures set in," the expert said. "Alcohol becomes the socially accepted shortcut to feeling relaxed and bonded before the intensity of family gatherings the next day."
Alpert added that going home can also "activate" an earlier version of oneself, especially when seeing old friends.
"Reconnecting restores a sense of identity and belonging," he said. "The key is that alcohol often becomes the tool to access those feelings quickly, rather than letting them emerge naturally through real conversation."
He advised bar patrons to decide how they want to feel the next morning before ordering multiple drinks.
"Set a limit, eat beforehand and alternate drinks with water," Alpert recommended. "If the goal is connection, focus on that — i.e., ask questions, listen, have real conversations. When people shift the emphasis from drinking to reconnecting, they often leave the night feeling genuinely good instead of depleted."
He said drinkers should stay in touch with their emotions before they decide to drink.

"If it's about celebration and reconnection, great. If it's about avoiding stress, numbing discomfort or bracing for family dynamics, that's worth noticing," he said.
"A small amount of awareness can prevent a festive tradition from turning into an emotional hangover the next day."
And not all the holiday drinking will take place on Thanksgiving Eve.
Political division is a likely cause of much of the drinking on Thanksgiving, said Carole Lieberman, a psychiatrist based in Beverly Hills, California.

"Some families suffer a lot of pre-Thanksgiving anxiety about whether Uncle Joe or Aunt Sally is going to start ranting about this politician or that," she told Fox News Digital.
Lieberman suggested that, for some families, heightened political division may make Thanksgiving gatherings more stressful.
But the doctor warned that excessive drinking is never a cure for social anxiety.
"Although it might be fun to drown some of this anxiety with alcohol on drinksgiving, [you] don't want to be either hung over or still drunk during Thanksgiving Day, because this could make the arguments worse," she noted.

World's Strongest Woman contestants open up on unknowingly facing trans athlete at controversial event
Women's weightlifters Hailey Sikman and Jade Dickens thought they were competing at a normal World's Strongest Woman championship last weekend. Instead, they witnessed the nation's latest trans athlete controversy unfurl up close.
Transgender athlete Jammie Booker won first place in the women's heavyweight division, beating female competitor Andrea Thompson by one point. However, once Booker's biological sex was revealed, Official Strongman revised the results to give Thompson first place.
Sikman and Dickens told Fox News Digital they had no knowledge of Booker's biological sex until after the competition.

"Unfortunately, Jammie Booker got the best of Andrea Thompson right there at the end. And it wasn't known to the promoters, to any of the athletes, until after the award ceremony and after everyone was gone that Jammie Booker is actually Jeffrey Booker, and he is a man," Dickens said.
"I was beyond mad. … Had I known, I definitely would have done something about it, personally would have done something about it prior to the event being over. But nobody knew. Nobody knew he was a man."
Dickens said she believes the organization would have removed Booker from competition had it known of the athlete's birth sex.
"Had they had the knowledge, they would have taken care of it before the competition even started," Dickens said.
Sikman also claimed she didn't know of Booker's biological sex until after the competition was over. Still, Sikman had her suspicions about Booker based on the athlete's appearance.
"He definitely conned himself in and manipulated a situation," Sikman said.
During the competition, Sikman tried to interact with the trans athlete, believing Booker was a woman, she said.

"I tried to talk to him, and he kind of just blew me off," Sikman added.
Dickens said of Booker's behavior during the event, "I didn't personally speak to him. … He was actually pretty quiet. … In my opinion, the reason he didn't talk much was because his voice would have revealed he was male."
Sikman claimed she spoke to other competitors who recalled Booker's behavior during the weekend.
"A lot of other women were saying he was just being arrogant and talking s---," Sikman said.
Dickens also recalled what she heard from other competitors about Booker's conduct, saying, "In that competition atmosphere, everyone is doing a little digging. … [Trash talking] happens. It happens in all sports."
On Monday, Booker posted a video to Instagram thanking numerous people for their assistance in what was originally a victory.
A YouTube video from what appears to be Booker's own channel, dating back to 2017, shows Booker claiming to be "trans."
According to Strongman Archives, Booker had not competed in women's events prior to this past June. It is unclear whether Booker had previously competed as a man.
Official Strongman announced that Booker would be disqualified. Strongman said it had attempted to reach out to Booker, "but a response has not been received."
Sikman hopes to see stricter measures to prevent males from sneaking into women's competitions, saying she hopes "genetic testing or some sort of vetting process" can be employed by Official Strongman.
Dickens said she's been an advocate for protecting women's sports since 2018 because she had to witness males compete in her powerlifting federation in the past. She hopes the public takes notice of this issue.
"People keep saying this is a non-issue, that this does not happen that often, that this is going to go away," Dickens said. "Where is our trust? This just breaks down the fabric of womanhood. … We want to be trusting of everyone around us, and when men come in and deceitfully try to take what is rightfully a woman's, it erodes the trust for that woman."

Patriots place star offensive player on IR with knee injury ahead of stretch run
The New England Patriots just lost a key piece of their offense as they head down the stretch run.
Head coach Mike Vrabel announced Wednesday the team placed star left tackle Will Campbell, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, on IR with a knee injury.
The 21-year-old was carted off the field during the third quarter of the team’s 26-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday.
Campbell will be eligible to return for the team’s Week 18 game against the Miami Dolphins. Vederian Lowe is expected to start in his place.

The Patriots are 10-2, winners of nine straight games and sit atop the AFC East. They play the Buffalo Bills, who are second in the AFC East at 7-4, in Week 15, a game Campbell will miss.
A big reason for the Patriots’ turnaround — they were 4-13 last season — is the team’s revamped offensive line.
In 2024, the team’s Week 1 offensive linemen included Chukwuma Okorafor at left tackle, Michael Jordan at left guard, David Andrews at center, Layden Robinson at right guard and Michael Onwenu at right tackle.
BILLS SIGN NFL VETERAN TO BOLSTER WIDE RECEIVING CORPS
Over the offseason, the team made additions to the offensive line through both the NFL Draft and free agency. In 2025, their Week 1 offensive line was Campbell at left tackle, Jared Wilson at left guard, Garrett Bradbury at center, Onwenu at right guard and Morgan Moses at right tackle.
The remade offensive line has been critical in second-year quarterback Drake Maye’s ascension into the MVP conversation this year.
Maye, 23, leads the NFL in completion percentage (71%) and yards (3,130), while throwing 21 touchdowns and six interceptions in 12 games. A huge reason for this spike in production is improved protection.
However, Maye could be missing Wilson too. The left guard also left the team’s win over the Bengals with an injury.
It is unclear if Wilson will be able to play against the New York Giants (2-10) on Monday.

Letterman hammers ‘dictator’ Trump’s Truth Social post attacking another late-night host
Legendary late-night host David Letterman went after President Donald Trump in a podcast posted Tuesday after Trump slammed late-night comic Seth Meyers in a Truth Social post.
During an episode of "The Barbara Gaines Show" – hosted by former "Letterman" producer Barbara Gaines – Letterman defended Meyers from Trump’s criticism and mocked the president.
"The president of the United States now wants to fire Seth Meyers. Yeah. And I thought, ‘This is just delightful. How do you think that's going to go?’ So, anyway, I've never been more proud of Seth Meyers," the late-night icon said.
Trump ripped the host of NBC’s "Late Night With Seth Meyers" on his social media platform on Nov. 15.
"NBC's Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ‘show’ is a Ratings DISASTER. Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!"
After Trump posted the criticism, Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr, a Trump appointee, shared it to his own X account, prompting critics to accuse the government official of using his office to make NBC do Trump’s bidding.

Trump’s call for Meyers’ firing comes after late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was suspended by ABC for several days in September for comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin, and months after CBS announced that "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" would be canceled next spring.
Letterman joked that Meyers should be careful not to bring on Trump’s wrath.
"But just remember, Seth, ‘things happen,’" the host quipped. He was mocking Trump’s defense of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman when the leader was confronted about the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi by an ABC News reporter last week in the Oval Office.

Elsewhere during the podcast, Letterman was less tongue-in-cheek with his criticism of Trump, calling him a "dictator."
In response to Gaines referencing Trump calling a Bloomberg reporter "piggy" on Air Force One last week, Letterman said, "Oh, how about that? Oh my God, that was so good. Oh man, just a wonder of idiocy. It's just fantastic. It knows no bounds."
"He’s our dictator," Letterman added. "He’s not going anywhere."
"Nobody cares what lies irrelevant David Letterman spews out," White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital.
Four-time Tour de France champion returns to cycling after career-threatening crash: 'Tough road back'
A four-time Tour de France champion is back on the bike after a severe crash resulted in him being airlifted to a hospital.
Chris Froome sustained major injuries in a "serious training crash" in August and was transported to a hospital in Toulon, France.
Froome sustained a collapsed lung, five broken ribs and a lumbar vertebra fracture that put his cycling career in jeopardy.

Froome posted on social media that he was riding again.
"It’s been a tough road back after my latest crash, but it feels so good to finally be out here spinning the legs and on the road again," Froome wrote with a selfie on Instagram. "Every setback teaches you something... this one reminded me to slow down, heal and enjoy the simple things in life."
Froome first won the Tour de France in 2013. He then won three straight after losing in 2014, becoming the first rider to defend the title since Lance Armstrong before his seven victories were stripped.

The 40-year-old Froome never returned to his previous best level after a training crash at the 2019 Critérium du Dauphiné, an event he used to fine-tune his bid for a record-equaling fifth Tour title. In the accident, he broke his right femur, elbow and ribs.
Froome has been signed with Israel-Premier Tech since 2021, but his career could be in jeopardy with the contract soon expiring combined with this crash.
