Darby Allin makes AEW title defense before Double or Nothing, Willow Nightingale surrenders title and more
Darby Allin made one final AEW World Championship defense on Wednesday’s double episode of "Dynamite" and "Collision" against "Speedball" Mike Bailey and did so in front of his Double or Nothing challenger, Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF).
Allin had been on an incredible run of title defenses since capturing the championship over MJF about a month ago. In the lead up to a title vs. hair match against MJF, Allin proved again why he was one of the best in pro wrestling.
Bailey missed a high-flying aerial maneuver allowing Allin to hit a Coffin Drop. But MJF interfered, putting Bailey’s foot on the rope to break the count. Bailey nearly got a three count on Allin after a kick, but Allin would ultimately survive.
Allin put Bailey into multiple Scorpion Death Locks, and forced Bailey to tap out. Still the champion, Allin and MJF will square off at Double or Nothing. If Allin retains, MJF will have to shave his head.

Willow Nightingale reveals injury, relinquishes TBS Championship
Unfortunately, Willow Nightingale’s dominant reign as TBS champion came to an abrupt end on Wednesday night. She announced during "Dynamite."
"Winning this championship was one of the greatest moments of my career and I haven’t had a shortage of great moments in my time at AEW. I’ve won the Owen before, I’ve won the TBS title before this reign," she said in a backstage segment. "And I became half of the very first AEW women’s tag team champions But winning this back from Mercedes (Moné), I knew that if I could do that, I could prove to myself, I could prove to the world that I am everything I believed I could be which is why I told myself I would fight day in, day out to any challenger that steps up and if I couldn’t do that, then I didn’t deserve to be the TBS champion.
"As fate would have it, in my most recent title defense against Red Velvet, I injured my right shoulder and I want so bad, I want so bad to wrestle at Double or Nothing in front of my family, at home in New York, against Alex Windsor. I want to go on in the Owen and go to All In and become the AEW world champ. But unfortunately, I have to withdraw from the Owen Hart Cup. Furthermore, I must relinquish the TBS Championship."
Nightingale said she was "overjoyed" to the face of TBS over the course of her 10 title defenses and vowed to be back, though it was unclear when.
Mina Shirakawa will now take on Athena in the first round of the Owen at Double or Nothing. Windsor will have a wild-card opponent in the tournament.
Will Ospreay makes statement before Double or Nothing
Will Ospreay appeared on the "Collision" portion of Wednesday night’s special, taking on Katsuyori Shibata – a member of The Opps. It was a tune-up match before Ospreay takes on fellow Opps member Samoa Joe in the first round of the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament.
Ospreay has been more dangerous since he trained with The Death Riders in recent weeks, showing his tenacity last week against Ace Austin. It was much of the same against Shibata. His aerial stylings and hard hits proved to be too much for Shibata in the end. He hit Shibata with a Styles Clash and a Hidden Blade, pinning Shibata for the win.
Joe addressed Ospreay after the match, saying he was going to "put your a-- to sleep."
Ospreay responded, detailing his own "nightmare" situation in which he comes to grips with some of his doubters. He said that he received messages for years about how Joe was going to "kill" him and wondered how that would be possible if he’s "already died in this very ring."
"This year, the stakes are high because the winner of the Owen Hart Cup goes on to face whoever the world champion is at the biggest stadium my country has. A stadium that every kid in my school wanted to be in and I have a chance to fulfill my country’s dream and I have a chance to fulfill my dream because it’s not just the company on my back, I got a whole flipping country on my back.
"My nightmare, Joe, my nightmare died and it was in the hands of these men (The Death Riders) and Marina (Shafir). They killed the old me and they rebuilt me. They rebuilt me into a murderer, into a killer, into what I’ve been this entire time."
He said Sunday at Double or Nothing started his road to winning the AEW World Championship.

Swerve Strickland, Bandido brawl before Double or Nothing match
For weeks, Swerve Strickland had made it clear that he was going after Ring of Honor champion Bandido. The two were set to square off in the first round of the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament at the upcoming Double or Nothing pay-per-view but they decided to give fans a preview of what’s to come.
Strickland was going to address the crowd in Portland, Maine, when Bandido blindsided Strickland. The two brawled for several minutes as Strickland was trying to hit a Vertebreaker on a char that he set up in the middle of the ring. Bandido countered and hit a military press slam on Strickland.
As Bandido was going for a knockout blow with the chair, Strickland rolled out of the ring.
New matches added to Double or Nothing
Jon Moxley will defend the Continental Championship against Kyle O’Reilly after their eliminator match went the distance.
Viva Van and Zaya Steel will be a part of a women’s tag team eliminator match against champions Megan Bayne and Lena Kross. The match will take place during the Buy In hour before the pay-per-view officially kicks off.

Jimmy Kimmel tells viewers to never watch CBS again after Stephen Colbert's final episode
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel told his viewers on Wednesday to stop watching CBS for good after Stephen Colbert's final show airs Thursday night.
Kimmel noted his own show would not air that night to honor Colbert's finale, telling viewers, "I think you know how I feel about the fact that they are being pushed out. I hope the people who did the pushing feel ashamed of themselves tonight, although I know they probably won’t."
Kimmel congratulated Colbert and said he hoped he would come visit his ABC program as often as possible.
"I will be watching tomorrow night. I hope that those of you who watch our show will also tune in to CBS for the last time. Don’t ever watch it again," he added. "But watch tomorrow night to wish Stephen and our friends at 'The Late Show' a fond farewell."
KIMMEL SLAMS CBS OVER COLBERT CANCELLATION, RIPS INTO TRUMP AS A ‘DELICATE, CHUBBY LITTLE TEACUP’
Fox News Digital reached out to CBS for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Kimmel appeared on Colbert's show last week when he questioned why his late-night colleague was being asked to make the case for late-night television. Kimmel appeared alongside Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon, and John Oliver.
"Why should you have to defend late-night? Why should that question even be asked?" Kimmel asked Colbert. "Like Ryan Seacrest doesn’t get asked [about] 'Wheel of Fortune' or whatever the hell he’s hosting."
Colbert also asked the group of late-night hosts if there was anything the group hadn't touched on in the appearance meant to mark the end of "The Late Show."
"The outrage that your show is being thrown off the air?" Kimmel responded. "I am waiting for angry Stephen to come out. I want to see you go nuts."
The audience then started chanting Colbert's name.
Colbert hosted Jon Stewart on Tuesday, who downplayed late-night TV's focus on President Donald Trump.
Stewart praised Colbert as his favorite person during the send-off interview, before turning to the president.
"He can do whatever he wants to do, but the ubiquitous bloviating of the commander-in-chief has put us all as defined as who we are in opposition to him," Stewart said. "And it's just a ridiculous framing. Yeah, it's a minute portion of the joy machine that you call your show. And it's annoying."

"I mean this from the bottom of my heart, not just for this show, but for the country," Stewart continued. "The day — oh people, close your eyes and dream. NASCAR champ Kyle Busch hospitalized with undisclosed but "severe illness," will miss Coca-Cola 600
Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch will miss this weekend's Coca-Cola 600 because of an undisclosed illness that put him in the hospital earlier this week.
The announcement came from Busch's family via his official social media account.
"Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization. He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation."
Busch, 41, is a two-time Cup champion and undoubtedly a future Hall of Famer. He's been in the Cup Series since 2004, making 762 career starts with 63 wins. Busch won the championship in 2015 and 2019, and has 234 victories across all three NASCAR national series.
He is the all-time record-holder for wins in both the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series (102) and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (69).
While he's had a prolific career, Busch has struggled in recent years.
He left Joe Gibbs Racing for Richard Childress Racing after the 2022 season, and won three times during his first season. However, he has not won since, with his last trip to Victory Lane in the Cup Series coming in June 2023.
Busch started this current season on the pole for the Daytona 500, but has since struggled. He has just two top-10s across 12 races, and hasn't led a lap since Daytona. He currently sits 23rd in the points after a season-best finish (eighth) at Watkins Glen earlier this month.
Oddly enough, Busch was also sick during that race, asking the team to have a doctor on standby when the race ended. The 41-year-old was reportedly dealing with a sinus cold.
Austin Hill will replace Busch in his No. 8 RCR Chevy Sunday at Charlotte.
Pete Crow-Armstrong giving up Little League home run to Brewers perfectly represents the Cubs' woeful week
In mid-April, the Chicago Cubs put together a 10-game winning streak and then accomplished the same feat to begin May, moving to 27-12 on the year. Things were good in Wrigleyville, but now they're bad. One may even say awful.
The Cubbies have lost each of their last four series, but the recent sweep they endured at home to the Milwaukee Brewers, the team that eliminated them from the postseason a year ago, painted about as grim a picture as imaginable.
Chicago was outscored by Milwaukee 19-5 across the three-game series, which included a 5-0 loss on Wednesday in a game the Cubs showed about as much life as a paper towel.
Chicago managed just two hits, had a single opportunity with a runner in scoring position, and committed three errors, and one of those blunders stands out.
In the top of the second inning, Milwaukee's David Hamilton hit a hard, yet routine line drive up the middle with the bases loaded. All-Star center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong took a somewhat aggressive line to the baseball, hoping to soften the blow and show off his arm with a throw to home plate.
Instead, he whiffed, not even coming close to putting his glove on the baseball, and Hamilton cruised home for a Little League-style inside-the-park home run.
If the Gold Glove winner not being able to field a routine ground ball in center field doesn't perfectly represent the current state of the Cubs, maybe the error he made on a routine fly ball 24 hours earlier does.
It hasn't just been in the field where PCA has struggled mightily in recent weeks, either.
Over his last 11 games, Crow-Armstrong has gone 4 for 37 at the plate with 12 strikeouts to go along with just three RBIs.

While every player in baseball history has and will go through slumps and up-and-down stretches, PCA's is unique, given his run-in with a female Chicago White Sox fan during a contest on the South Side on May 16.
After being heckled by a fan after making a play during the fifth inning of the team’s 8-3 loss to the White Sox, he was caught delivering a vulgar response to the fan.
"You suck my f---ing d---, b----," Crow-Armstrong was heard saying.
The Cubs are 0-4 since PCA's moment with the fan, and he's gone 1-for-14 at the dish during that stretch.
Luck has not been anywhere close to being on Chicago's side so far this season, with injuries wreaking havoc on the bullpen as seven pitchers currently sit on the injured list.
That doesn't account for the Cubs' bats turning cold during what is now a five-game losing streak in which they've scored more than three runs in a game just once, which was a 9-8 loss to the White Sox.
Atlanta's road dominance and history against Sandy Alcantara make them the play vs. Miami Marlins
It was a solid day yesterday as we went 2-1 with my posted plays. The loss came in the Brewers vs. Cubs game. Chicago lost the game 5-0, and I had the over 6.5. I leaned toward the Brewers winning, but I didn't get there personally. Today, we will get there all the way as the Braves take on the Marlins in an evening matchup.
The Atlanta Braves are among the best teams in baseball. This team struggled last year, mostly due to injury, but they finished in fourth place of the division. I think everyone expected that they might take a step back last season, but that was a pretty big drop. This year, the team is healthier and looks like they may run away with the National League East. They've been strong road warriors this season as well with an 18-8 record.
In an effort to take three out of four games in this series, the team turns to Spencer Strider. It hasn't been a long season for Strider, but his numbers look strong with a 1-0 record, 2.45 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. My bigger concern about Strider is that he's allowed 10 walks this year in just 14.2 innings. Five of them came in his first game back, but he is still giving up too many, in my opinion. The good news for him is that the Marlins are 19th in the league in walks. Collectively, the Marlins are hitting just 1-for-12 against Strider.
The Miami Marlins finished ahead of the Braves last season, but I don't see that happening again this year. Miami is one of those franchises that seems to be in a never-ending rebuild. The only difference is that the Marlins do occasionally have success. They just trade away any valuable asset before they have to shell out a contract. The fish are currently 22-28 for the year, but they do have a winning record at home (albeit a slight one at 15-14).
Tonight, they get one of their trade chips taking the mound. Sandy Alcantara, especially if he can regain his Cy Young form, is a guy that Miami will likely be shopping around the deadline. Overall, Alcantara is 3-2 for the season with a 3.53 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. In 10 starts, he has turned in eight quality starts. The two bad starts were really bad. He allowed seven earned runs in both of them. For the season, he has two starts where he has allowed 14 earned runs, and eight where he has allowed 11. Braves hitters have been strong against Alcantara.
There are a couple of guys worth considering for player props. Ronald Acuna Jr. is hitting .342 against Alcantara, with half of those hits going for extra bases. Ozzie Albies is 15-for-48 with eight extra-base hits. Austin Riley is on the other end, with 15 strikeouts in 35 at-bats. I like taking Riley at 2+ strikeouts at +238. I also think the other two at 2+ total bases and plus money. Those are worth a sprinkle or same-game parlay.
Based on their history and current form, I think the Braves are the right play in this one. They are a little pricier than I would like to pay at -140, but I think with the Braves' history against Alcantara, we have a good chance to get the win. I'll take the Braves and Riley's player prop.

DAVID MARCUS: He barely survived Biden lawfare, and now he deserves to get paid
Democrats are outraged again. This time, it is because the Department of Justice has set up a $1.8 billion fund to compensate victims of the weaponization of the federal government as part of President Donald Trump’s settlement with the IRS over his own targeting by the agency.
This might mark the first time that the Democrats have ever sided with the government over alleged criminals, who they regularly coddle like swaddled babes. Obviously, it is only because we are talking about Republicans, not illegal immigrants.
There is no better example than Michael Caputo, former spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services in the first Trump administration, whose life was shattered by the fruitless and politically driven Russia collusion investigations.
Starting in 2017, after Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, Caputo and others were targeted by the DOJ and eventually the Robert Mueller investigation for little reason other than their connection to Trump.

Caputo and his family were crushed by legal fees, constant legal appearances and serious reputational damage, and in retrospect, given the lack of evidence of Russian collusion at best, and the manufacture of it, at worst, the process sure looks like the punishment.
"Our family was caught totally by surprise in March 2017 and from House to Senate to Mueller interrogations, each of my daughters was torn apart differently," Caputo told me. "My wife, our rock, held it all together until she couldn’t. When my cancer hit, everything exploded. The death threats and drive-bys started coming in fast. Then, total collapse."
Yes, I forgot to mention that Caputo was suffering from cancer throughout this ordeal.

The funny thing is, as a general rule, Democrats love to come to the defense, not just of people accused of crimes, but often those convicted of them.
Liberals were thrilled when the Central Park Five received a $41 million settlement for being wrongly accused, and cheered when George Floyd’s family got $27 million from Minneapolis for his death.
And it wasn’t just Floyd’s family. Black Lives Matter rioters arrested in New York City in 2020 got a cool $13.7 million from the NYPD in a settlement. And how about the child rapist in Idaho awarded $2.5 million for a trans surgery after it was ruled his rights had been violated?

The point is that, obviously, prosecutors can and do cross the line from making honest mistakes in investigations to targeting people for illegitimate reasons such as politics, and the abusive lawfare exercised against Caputo and others in the Trump orbit more than qualifies.
When figures like former FBI officials and star-crossed lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page set out to destroy Trump and his allies, as made clear in their now infamous text messages, it was demonstrably a violation of their victims' civil rights.
If we were talking about literally anyone other than Trump supporters, Bruce Springsteen would be doing a benefit concert for the targets of such civil rights abuses.

Well, President Trump may not be the Boss of rock and roll, but he is the boss of the DOJ and Caputo is grateful.

As a campaign policy advisor, I knew how many years of thought and expertise went into developing his anti-weaponization policy. Still, the fund announcement Monday came as a surprise and gave my girls a heckuva shot of hope."
Breathless Democrats express horror that someone who was violent during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot may wind up with a settlement, but that is exactly how it is supposed to work. Just because someone commits a crime, it doesn’t mean they have no civil rights.
As Vice President JD Vance made clear this week from the White House press room, decisions about who receives compensation from the anti-weaponization fund will be on a case-by-case basis, as it should be.
There may be close calls, such as those who caused mayhem on Jan. 6, but Caputo, and many others like him, are not a close call. They are slam dunks.
Ultimately, it is not just that Caputo deserves compensation for his mistreatment at the hands of the government. It is that the government must be taught that this may never happen again. This new fund is a big step in that direction.
Fans float wild conspiracy theories after Caitlin Clark's late scratch from Fever game
The Indiana Fever scratched superstar guard Caitlin Clark less than two hours before the team's game on Wednesday night against the Portland Fire. The official announcement cited a back injury.
It all seemed simple enough. Clark certainly isn't the first athlete to miss a game with an injury and isn't the first to be a late scratch. The problem came when the media asked head coach Stephanie White about Clark's injury status.

"She's healthy and we're not managing anything," White said pregame, while also adding that Clark woke up stiff and sore and attributed the absence to a long-term plan. That caused many fans to do a double take. If she's healthy, why isn't she playing? And, if she wasn't healthy, why wasn't she on the injury report prior to being ruled out for the game?
After the game, White added: "Not everybody that doesn’t practice or gets a pro day is on the injury report. That happens all the time. And she wasn’t listed on the injury report earlier because we expected her to play."
That should clear it all up, huh? No, no it did not. Conspiracy theories started flying on social media about Clark's absence. Some suggested the team benched Clark to punish her for a sideline argument with an assistant coach in the team's previous game.
Some suggested Clark being named Grand Marshal for the Indianapolis 500 angered the team and they wanted to make a point. Others said White simply doesn't like Clark and the attention she receives.

Still others suggested that the league is hiding that Clark is dealing with an injury that will never heal properly. And the theories didn't just revolve around Clark. Some said the league and the team knew she wouldn't play Wednesday night, but waited as long as possible to announce it to keep attendance and TV ratings from dropping. That didn't work, by the way.
The main issue here is transparency. The Fever and White don't appear to have been transparent about Clark's status and that leads people to fill in the blanks themselves.
Right now, those blanks aren't good for the WNBA, the Fever or White.
Obama’s baseball outing with Castro reignites fury after Trump DOJ drops hammer on Cuban leader
Former Cuban President Raúl Castro was indicted Wednesday in connection with the 1996 shootdown of two civilian aircraft that killed four people — reviving scrutiny of former President Barack Obama’s highly publicized 2016 trip to Havana.
"President Obama’s approach to Cuba was not merely a policy mistake. It was a diplomatic disaster — naive at best, incompetent at worst, and deeply disrespectful to the dissidents, political prisoners and victims who suffered under the Castro regime," former Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who is Cuban American, told Fox News Digital.
"Obama treated normalization as enlightened diplomacy. It handed legitimacy to a brutal dictatorship while asking little in return," said the Fox News contributor. "The administration reopened relations, relaxed restrictions and gave Havana a public-relations victory, yet the Cuban people remained trapped under the same repressive system and the United States gained no meaningful security concessions."
The Justice Department on Wednesday unsealed a superseding indictment charging Castro and five co-defendants over the deaths of four U.S. nationals aboard two unarmed civilian aircraft operated by the Miami-based exile group. Cuban-American critics said the charges underscore long-standing objections to Obama’s normalization push, which they argue gave legitimacy to the Castro regime.

Obama traveled to Cuba in 2016 as part of his administration’s push to normalize U.S.-Cuba relations after decades of hostility, arguing that engagement on diplomacy, the economy and human rights would be more effective than isolation. "I have come here to bury the last remnant of the Cold War in the Americas," Obama said from Havana that year. "I have come here to extend the hand of friendship to the Cuban people."
Photos of Obama and Castro embracing during the 2016 Havana trip quickly resurfaced online after the indictment, going viral across social media and triggering a wave of criticism from users who blasted the optics of the former president’s relationship with the communist leader.
"While Raoul was harboring American terrorists like Joanne Chesimard and Guillermo Morales. Disgusting," wrote Fox News contributor Paul Mauro on X.
"Barack Obama in his element with communists and criminals," wrote Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn on X.

"Raúl Castro and five co-defendants participated in a conspiracy that ended with Cuban military aircraft firing missiles at those planes and killing four Americans," said acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Wednesday during the indictment announcement. "Nations and their leaders cannot be permitted to target Americans, kill them and not face accountability."
Following the indictment, Trump said Cuba is "very important."
"A lot of people have suffered very big, very, very at levels that few people would understand. And I think the Cuban population of Miami, and certainly beyond Miami," said Trump. "People that came there that were decimated, whose families were ruined, appreciate what the attorney general just did today, and he's just doing it now. He's just watching it. We have Cuba on our mind. Very important."
Suarez said that for Cuban Americans, Obama cozying up with Castro was disrespectful.
"It is about families torn apart, property confiscated, voices silenced, dissidents beaten, prisoners of conscience abandoned and generations forced to live under fear. To treat the Castro government as a normal partner without first honoring those victims was not diplomacy," he said.
Trump has previously joked the U.S. would be "taking over" Cuba "almost immediately."
"Cuba’s got problems. We’ll finish one first. I like to finish a job," he added this month.
Fox News Digital reached out to Obama's office and the White House for additional comment on the renewed criticisms of the trip.
California man charged with attempted murder after bloody attack outside San Diego 'Trump House'
FIRST ON FOX: A California man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly critically injuring a man outside an Escondido home known for displays of American flags, pro-Trump messages and other banners, according to local police.
The 32-year-old suspect, Thomas Caleb Butler, is being held in the Vista Detention Facility in San Diego County.
Around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Escondido police officers responded to reports of an assault at the intersection of East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street.
They found an elderly male "suffering from significant injuries" and said that a good Samaritan who intervened had also been hurt, according to authorities.

By the time they arrived, the suspect had fled on foot, police said. However, additional officers found him about a half-mile away. Records show Butler lives around the corner from the victim.
Escondido police did not name the victim, who was hospitalized in critical condition. Public records show the property is owned by a 69-year-old man.

Some neighbors have complained about the displays for years, which tower over the side of the property.

Video taken in the aftermath of the attack shows a man pointing responding officers toward something and then gesturing as though someone was being kicked or stomped.
Police placed evidence markers in the street and photographed the front of the home, near a mailbox and a parked pickup truck with two American flags set up over the bed.
Just a few feet away, another parked car had its hood propped open.
Another image showed what appeared to be blood at the foot of the driveway between the two vehicles.
Escondido police did not immediately respond to a request for comment before West Coast business hours Thursday.
A Reddit post in the r/sandiego forum last year showed a man in a folding chair sitting on the sidewalk outside the home, with an American flag in his right hand and the left gesturing in what the poster described as a "Roman salute."
