Trump says he would 'love' to see Ireland unified as one nation
President Donald Trump said Saturday during a trip to Ireland that he would love to see the country unified.
The Republic of Ireland gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1922, while Northern Ireland, established in 1921, has remained part of the U.K.
"I don't want to cause any problems, but I will tell you, I'd love to see it unified. I have friends on both sides, great people. They're Irish people. How can they be bad, right?" Trump said while on stage with Taoiseach Micheál Martin. "I'd like to see a unified country. I think it would be a great feather in everybody's cap if that happened. It's going to happen eventually."
He added that the U.K. "will have something to say about it obviously," but reiterated that unification would be a "great thing."

Why Erika Kirk’s forgiveness matters
Author William P. Young’s new book "Return to the Shack" centers on the power of forgiveness, and he praised Erika Kirk for presenting a strong display of it last year.
Young’s novel "The Shack" tells the story of a father’s healing process after his daughter was kidnapped and killed on a camping trip. The grieving dad, Mack, receives a mysterious letter from God asking him to come to a shack, where he meets an unorthodox Holy Trinity. While considered controversial by some religious readers, the story largely resonated with audiences and was turned into a motion picture in 2017.
Young's sequel focuses on forgiveness as Mack comes face-to-face with his daughter’s killer as he is given a more humanized storyline.
"I think we need to make a distinction between forgiveness and reconciliation," Young told Fox News Digital. "Forgiveness is for the sake of the one who's been harmed, so that you can continue to live your life without the specter of what's on your shoulders. And I mean, you can forgive someone and never trust them again. Reconciliation is the slow, arduous, painful process of learning how to trust. Or taking the risk that you might become trustworthy if you've done the harm. So, reconciliation is for the sake of the perpetrator, much more than forgiveness is."

Making peace is essential, he said.
"Otherwise, you're going to live with a corpse of an event or a situation or some human being who may be dead," he continued. "A lot of abuse was done to us by people who no longer are alive. And if we can't let them go, which is the idea of forgiveness, is that we move our hands from around their throat so that we may hold something other than their throat, like life. And it becomes essential. Otherwise, we're poisoning all the relationships around us."
Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, shocked many Americans when she publicly forgave the man accused of assassinating her husband last year. Kirk was killed while speaking at a Turning Point USA event one year ago at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
"Our Savior said, 'Father, forgive them, for they not know what they do,'" Erika said at her husband's memorial service. "That young man … I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it's what Charlie would do."
Young found it a very powerful example of the message he’s trying to convey.

"And I think that's what Erika was doing, saying, ‘I'm not going to let what you have done to own me,'" the author said. "I'm not going to enter the same prison that you are now in,’ metaphorically, of course."
"And so, in terms of the human journey, we have this — same with every guy on death row — they don't have, in the deepest places of their heart, a desire to be harmful or to be non-truth tellers or to be unkind," Young continued. "They're human beings and that raises a question is why should that be the deepest places of movement towards a wholeness of what it means to be human by saying, ‘I want to do the work, what it takes to not be addicted. To be a truth-teller, to be someone who is kind and caring.’"
"And part of that is the underlying belief that love is actually more powerful than violence, or love is more powerful than harm," he added.

Young said that is often not the reality and not everyone takes the route Kirk took.
"And we live in a world where it seems like violence is really the power," he said. "In word, thought, or deed, whether we're using it in words online, or we're perpetrating it to the person in front of us, or we're gossiping about someone in order to give ourselves a boost and them a detraction. Love is more powerful, and that's my statement. You know, that's, I'm solidly convinced that it is, because it actually changes things."
Young couldn’t discuss the art of making amends without reflecting on his own years-long journey to forgive his father.
"Violence doesn't change any things," he said. "It only adds to the violence that already exists. And, you know, my dad was an abusive man when I was growing up. And if I thought that treating him with violence was going to be a resolution, I would have been absolutely blind and ignorant."
"It's not violence," Young added. "It's care. It's love. It's listening. It's that people shouldn't take a timeout, and the state offers one if you don't adhere to the rules. But even then, I think that love, God, meets us where we're at and begins to move us in a direction toward our wholeness so that we can learn to love others, and we can learn to love ourselves, and that produces incredible outcomes that would not be available otherwise."

New York City Council pushes bill to take press passes away from 'Mangionistas'
The New York City Council is considering a bill that would make it easier to strip official press passes away from people who abuse them or use them for non-journalistic purposes.
"We are introducing a bill today, sponsored by Councilmember Banks that will make reforms to press credentials to solve the problem of the Luigi Mangione fangirl, if you will," City Council Speaker Julie Menin told FOX 5 New York's "Good Day New York" Thursday morning. "These fangirls, who are not journalists, are showing up at the trial with press credentials that the City of New York is giving to them."
A trio of Mangione supporters drew national attention in May after showing off their city-issued press passes to the New York Post outside the courthouse on the day of one of the assassin's hearings.

The bill, introduced Thursday and co-sponsored by council members Chris Banks, Carmen De La Rosa and Inna Vernikov, would give the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) authority to suspend or revoke a press pass if the "preponderance of the evidence" shows it's justified.

That lowers the threshold from current rules, which require "clear and convincing evidence" to justify taking away press passes.

"We want them to reform their practices so it's really journalists, legitimate journalists, who should be getting the press credentials," Menin, who used to be MOME's commissioner, said in the FOX 5 interview.
Mangione pleaded guilty to federal charges earlier this year, and his legal team is fighting to have New York state-level charges dismissed on double jeopardy grounds.

He killed Thompson, a 50-year-old father of two from Minnesota, on a Manhattan sidewalk on Dec. 5, 2024. Surveillance video shows Mangione sneak up on him from behind and open fire with a silenced handgun, before fleeing on a bicycle.
He made his way to a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where police arrested him after customers and restaurant workers recognized him from a wanted poster.

Pennsylvania lawmaker suggests Trump should rename Lake Erie to 'Lake Pennsylvania'
Pennsylvania state Rep. David Maloney, a Republican, is asking President Donald Trump to rename Lake Erie to "Lake Pennsylvania" following similar renaming efforts by the president.
Maloney is preparing a resolution calling on Trump, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and lawmakers on Capitol Hill to take steps to rename Lake Erie to "Lake Pennsylvania," arguing that the change is needed to reflect the lake’s modern identity.
"This is Pennsylvania’s only Great Lake. Its modern economy and identity are increasingly tied to the boaters, anglers, families and tourists who come to enjoy it," Maloney said in a statement. "Ohio has plenty of shoreline. New York already has two Great Lakes. Canada has four others."

"Pennsylvania has one. Let’s call it Lake Pennsylvania!" he added.
Lake Erie is the smallest of the Great Lakes by volume as well as the shallowest, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The lake has about 12 million people in its watershed, with 10.5 million people in the U.S. and 1.9 million people in Canada.
This comes after Trump signed an executive order last month to rename Lake Ontario to "Lake America," a rebranding that Canada does not recognize and has firmly rejected.
"We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario — then, now and always," Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a statement.

The renaming only applies to the U.S. federal government, meaning Canada, other international bodies and U.S. states are not forced to acknowledge the change. But both Apple Maps and Google Maps changed the name of Lake Ontario to "Lake America" for U.S. users following Trump's executive order.
The president has also suggested renaming New Mexico to "New America," prompting several of the state’s Democratic lawmakers to call on Apple and Google to publicly commit to keeping the state's current name on their respective maps applications.
Trump has also floated the idea of renaming the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
On his first day back in office in January 2025, Trump signed an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America," but, similar to the Lake Ontario rebranding, the order only applies to the U.S. federal government and does not bind Mexico, other international bodies or private entities.
Apple Maps and Google Maps also adopted this change for users in the U.S., implementing the update using a region-based approach tailored to the location of the user's device.
Lindsay Clancy DA rarely does plea deals, but her case could be the 'exception,' veteran attorney says

The Plymouth County district attorney prosecuting Lindsay Clancy is known for rarely cutting deals, but a veteran defense attorney who has worked alongside him says her case may be the "exception."
Clancy, 36, faced three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children — Cora, Dawson and Callan, all under age 6 — who were found strangled at the family's home in January 2023.

The future of Clancy's murder case is unclear after Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on Friday, Sept. 4, after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict, ending in an alleged 11-1 divide.
Boston-based criminal defense attorney Peter Elikann, who has experience working against the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, told Fox News Digital that the office is known for its reluctance to negotiate.
"Normally, the reputation of the Plymouth County DA's office is that they don't like to do deals as much as other district attorney's offices do, that they will push a case to trial even if it's not their strongest case," Elikann said. "This very well could be an exception."
Elikann said it has become "conventional wisdom" that it's "unlikely that you'll ever get 12 jurors to agree that she committed first-degree murder."
"It would make sense that as a win-win situation that the DA's office puts their head together with the defense counsel and they try to work out some sort of compromise that they can both live with," he added.
Elikann said Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz likely realizes it's going to be an uphill battle to secure a murder conviction at a potential retrial.

"Different juries can differ. But that might be an indication that it's going to be really rough to get 12 people to find her guilty of first-degree murder. Therefore, it would be something that they would mull over. Why have another trial if the likelihood of getting a conviction would be considered so minimal by a lot of people?" Elikann said.
Nick Dargie, one of the jurors, told ABC News the holdout juror refused to explain how witness testimony helped prove his stance.
"There was several times I would ask him to show us evidence or, you know, describe a witness testimony that helped to prove what he was saying, and ... he couldn't," Dargie said. "There wasn't a single piece of evidence or witness testimony that he used to prove why he was thinking the way he was, which is why we ultimately sent in that note."
Cruz, who has not decided whether to retry Clancy, said after the mistrial: "There will be no decisions made today regarding that."

"I'm going to be meeting with our team, and we will address this case further at the appropriate time and in the context of an official court proceeding," Cruz said.

Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, said he hopes the two sides can "work something out" when asked about a possible plea agreement on Tuesday during a "Good Morning America" interview.
Reddington filed a motion on Wednesday asking Sullivan to enter a finding of not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility on each charge. He wants the motion to be heard at a hearing on Sept. 29.
"A hung jury is not a verdict; jeopardy does not terminate on a hung jury, and a mistrial ordinarily permits retrial," Reddington conceded in the filing.
He argued that 11 of the 12 jurors "applied the reasonable doubt standard," concluding that the prosecutors hadn't proven that Clancy was criminally responsible. The lone holdout on the jury, according to the motion and other jurors, allegedly ignored doubts he had and wanted a guilty verdict.
"I‘m willing to listen to Tim. I‘ve known Tim for 30 years. He‘s a very hard charging prosecutor," Reddington said, referring to Cruz. "I hope, however, after sitting through this trial and seeing the evidence that was presented from the government as well as from the defense, that he would revisit that issue and hopefully would be able to work something out that would be acceptable to both sides."

Retired Massachusetts Superior Judge Jack Lu told Fox News Digital while he thinks a plea deal is a "good idea" and would be in the public's "interest," he doesn't think prosecutors would agree.

"I predict that the prosecutor's office will approach this the same way, at least as the charges are concerned, as they did for trial number one, seeking a conviction of first-degree murder. There is some possibility that they'll reduce the charges, and that would, that could happen, but I wouldn't be predicting that," Lu said.
"I think it's the honest philosophical point of view of the prosecutor in this case that this individual should be convicted of first-degree murder," he added.
Fox News Digital reached out to Cruz's office for comment.
Clancy is due back in court on Sept. 29 for a status hearing, where more information about the future of her case may be revealed.

"Growing up in a Christian home and having gone to a private Christian school up until high school - first going into that Canadian public high school was very [much a] culture shock… Gender liberation, sexual liberation, [was] a huge topic of conversation at the time [and] what we call GSAs, that's Gay Straight Alliance clubs, within schools," she added.
"It was very interesting going from a school where none of those things were discussed, and if they were discussed, it was from a healthy standpoint of, you know, this is what's age-appropriate to talk with teenagers about into a public school. Where [now] this [was] not only talked about in almost every class, but these conversations are had with adult teachers and underage students," Furst continued.

As for how this affected her life, she revealed that it led to "about five or six years" during which she "identified as a transgender man."

Furst said that a coworker who read Romans 8:38 to her was the catalyst for her reignited faith in God that dismantled the worldview she once defended.
Romans 8:38-39 reads, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
"I had gone home and continued to wrestle with that and by myself alone in my bedroom I said…I'm just going to pray and see what happens, and I highly doubt that Jesus would still want me, but I'm going to do that anyway," Furst continued.
"It was a slow heart work, but now I get to come as the woman that I am today, because it was [a] slow and steady journey of [my] relationship with Jesus," she relayed.
Furst went on to detail her changed perspective on adults who "share about their sexual identity with children", citing that she is "very critical" of those who choose to have those conversations with those who are underage – especially since she claims early exposure to those conversations were "slowly manipulating her" into struggling with an identity that she never had before.

And I think that parents have [a] very interesting sort of situation now of, how do you navigate keeping your child innocent in a world that tells them the safest thing is for them to know about all these sexual things from a very young age," she stated.
"If someone wants to be asking specific details about same-sex sexual actions, I don't think that is age-appropriate for a 13-year-old, 14-year-old. And I also really don't think that that conversation is meant to be had teacher to student. I think that should be reserved for families to decide how they want to approach those conversations and when it's most appropriate for those to be had," Furst said.
