Bill Barr says Todd Blanche isn't 'a toady,' urges senate to confirm Trump's AG pick
Former Attorney General Bill Barr is calling on Senate Republicans to confirm Todd Blanche as attorney general, arguing the former Trump defense lawyer's close relationship with the president should be viewed as a strength — not a conflict of interest.
In a Wall Street Journal opinion column, Barr, who served as attorney general under the first Trump administration, said Blanche should be confirmed, calling him well-qualified and saying he "will run the department as effectively as anyone could under President Trump, providing much-needed leadership and stability."
Barr's appeal comes as Blanche faces a potentially difficult confirmation process in the Senate. Republicans hold a 53-seat majority, but several GOP senators have not committed to supporting the nomination.
A large part of Barr's argument centered on countering criticism that Blanche's past as President Donald Trump's personal defense attorney makes him too conflicted to lead the Justice Department.

"Critics say that Mr. Blanche, having served as the president's personal defense lawyer, won't confront the president with hard truths. Exactly the opposite is true," Barr wrote.
"A successful criminal-defense lawyer like Mr. Blanche isn't a toady who sugarcoats the truth to his client," Barr continued. "The job demands regularly confronting strong-willed clients with harsh reality. This necessarily involves clashes, but the lawyer's dogged willingness to anchor his client to reality is what builds trust and makes the relationship effective."
Barr wrote that Blanche's established relationship with Trump should be viewed as an advantage rather than a liability.

"The president takes hard advice best from those whom he recognizes have his best interests at heart," Barr wrote. "Having helped the president through the crucible of his legal battles, Mr. Blanche is likely in the best position of anyone in the country to deliver strong counsel to the president and have him accept it. Senators should view a trusting relationship as a positive, not a negative."
Barr further dismissed claims that Blanche would simply carry out Trump's wishes without independent judgment.
"The left has portrayed Mr. Blanche as a man who will docilely carry out the president's desires," Barr wrote. "But Mr. Blanche doesn't shy away from giving the president straight-from-the-shoulder advice and, where warranted, pushing back on bad ideas. He doesn't always prevail, but, frankly, no one has a better chance of getting through to Mr. Trump."
TRUMP'S DOJ PICK IN TROUBLE AS GOP CONCERNS THREATEN CONFIRMATION
Since stepping into the role as acting attorney general following Pam Bondi's departure, Blanche has been heavily scrutinized for leading prosecutions against some of Trump's biggest foes, including the newest indictment against former FBI Director James Comey. He's also faced pushback over the Justice Department's aborted effort to create an Anti-Weaponization Fund.
The controversies have contributed to uncertainty over Blanche's confirmation, with several Republican senators publicly acknowledging reservations about his nomination.
Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said he remains undecided and has tied his support in part to concerns surrounding the scuttled fund.
"It'll be an issue if the weaponization fund isn't effectively dead by the confirmation hearing," Tillis said.
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, another Judiciary Committee member, has likewise withheld his support, saying he wants additional information before making a decision.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Cornyn said he plans to wait until after receiving a full briefing and hearing Blanche's testimony before deciding whether to support the nomination.
Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on Blanche's nomination are scheduled for mid-July as Republicans weigh whether to advance Trump's nominee to the full Senate.
Barr served as attorney general under both President George H.W. Bush and President Trump. While he was a key figure in Trump's administration and defended many of the president's policies, he later became one of Trump's most prominent critics over his claims of widespread voter fraud following the 2020 election.

From Freddy's well-documented road trip throughout the United States to Scotland's full-scale invasion of every bar and pub along the Eastern Seaboard, it's been fun to follow the exploits of fans from all corners of the world during this year's tournament.
While everyone hasn't been thrilled about foreign visitors speaking so glowingly with regard to America, an unlikely source sees this World Cup for what it is: a rousing success for the United States and its public image.

Liberal talk show host and comedian Bill Maher dedicated a segment on his show "Real Time" to the people who made this tournament as memorable off the pitch as the teams that play on it.
"I am loving that the World Cup has brought to our shores all of these people that are doing Americans the service of reminding us, just when we needed it, on our big (250th) birthday, that actually, this place is kind of awesome," Maher said, as he was met with raucous cheers and applause.
Sure, Maher had his usual moments of poking fun with his dry wit, saying he saw more scoring "at a Star Trek convention" (an admittedly funny line), but he was also effusive with his praise for the tournament as a whole.

Maher reminded everyone that, while there are problems that need to be addressed in this country, no one is perfect.
"The name of our country is 'America,' not 'Utopia,'" Maher remarked. "We can't be more perfect than what's in your mind, we can only be more perfect than Belgium."
And judging by the reaction of tourists all over social media throughout the World Cup, America is about as close to perfection as anyone.
"Social media, flooded with videos of slack-jawed soccer tourists wandering around America, positively gushing about everything we take for granted, reminding us what America looks like from the outside," Maher said.
"Just regular people looking around and saying, 'Wow! These people live like rock stars.'"
When even an outspoken liberal like Maher can see the upside to foreign soccer fans heaping praise on his home country, it really puts into perspective how broken large swathes of the left are when it comes to these things.
Instead of saying "you know what? America IS awesome," leftist whackjobs are on social media are trying to correct people by pointing out our country's perceived flaws.
Maher's whole segment is exceptional and worth watching in its entirety, but it's his poignant end to the monologue that really puts a bow on everything.

"Maybe it's a coincidence, but I think it's something in the American system and character that we have the highest number of Nobel Prize winners, and invented the light bulb, the telephone, the smartphone, the airplane, personal computers, and the party-sized bag of Xtra Flamin' Hot Cheetos," he said.

South Korea's proposed platform law could cost U.S. states $525B over the next decade, model estimates
A new model shows devastating economic losses for U.S. companies if South Korea adopts controversial legislation that would regulate transactions with some American firms as lawmakers warn that the country’s leadership is now "closely aligned with China."
The Online Platform Fairness Act, which is spearheaded by the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC), has gained steam in in the Asian nation and is backed by far-left South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. A Competere Foundation model estimates a $525 billion loss in economic activity in U.S. states over the next decade, including a $123 billion loss for California, a $48.7 billion loss for Texas, a $33.9 billion loss for New York and a $27.4 billion loss for Washington.
"South Korea is an American ally and an economic success story, which is why its recent and continuing actions restricting American companies — like its 20-year ban on Google Maps — are so troubling," Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., told Fox News Digital. "I remain concerned that its current trade commission resembles the worst of Lina Khan’s FTC, not the free market tradition that has helped to bring Seoul and Washington together."
Issa told Fox News Digital in April that South Korean leadership and the nature of the Democratic majority in the country is "closely aligned with China."
Yoon Suk-yeol, a conservative from the People Power Party, was elected president of South Korea in 2022, but was impeached in December 2024. His decision to impose martial law was a key factor in his ouster.
Jae Myung narrowly lost to Yoon in the 2022 presidential election, but won the presidency in 2025. The Democratic Party in South Korea already holds a substantial majority in the National Assembly. The country is now operating at a full Democratic majority.
The Democratic Party is the main liberal force party in the country, and favors progressive domestic policies as opposed to the conservative beliefs that have previously reduced political engagement with North Korea and promoted relations with the U.S.
The proposed bill, which remains pending in South Korea's assembly, would broaden the power of the KFTC – the same agency members of Congress are criticizing for unfairly treating U.S. companies.
Shanker Singham, international trade and competition economist and CEO of the Competere Foundation, said that "Korea is already an increasingly unfriendly place for U.S. companies to do business" and that the "looming regulations will make that environment even worse."

Former Utah Republican Rep. Chris Stewart also warned of South Korea’s posture to increase regulatory burdens for U.S. companies, telling Fox News Digital it could be devastating for more than just tech companies.
"South Korea's campaign against American companies isn't just a trade issue – it's a strategic mistake that benefits China," Stewart said. "Every time Korean regulators make it harder for U.S. innovators like Coupang, Google, or Meta to compete, they create more room for Chinese companies to gain market share and influence in one of the world's most important digital economies."
Stewart noted that the cost would affect more than just Silicon Valley, tying the economic losses to a Chinese win – since Beijing would likely take up lost market share in South Korea if American companies were to reduce investment.
BEYOND MISPERCEPTION: A RENEWED KOREAN DEMOCRACY AND A RENEWED ALLIANCE
In early June, foreign policy experts Nicholas Eberstadt and Lawrence Peck published an editorial in the Wall Street Journal titled, "South Korea Takes a Hard Left Turn Against America," which alleged that South Korean officials "stormed" U.S. air force bases as part of a domestic investigation.
The investigation surrounded Coupang, a U.S. tech company similar to Amazon. In early June, South Korea fined Coupang roughly $410 million for a data breach – the largest fine the country has ever issued for a similar charge.
South Korea's science ministry said that a Chinese national and former Coupang employee stole data and customer information from the American company, including information about South Korean citizens.
WILL SOUTH KOREA EXPEL THE US?
"The investigation into the case of Coupang is proportionate to the nature of the data breach and consistent with those applied to Korean companies in comparable cases," South Korean embassy spokesperson Minseong Seo told Semafor.
In April, 50 members of the House of Representatives expressed their concern in a letter to Republic of Korea (ROK) Ambassador to the United States Kyung-wha Kang over what they deemed to be "discriminatory" business practices.
The letter referenced a previous report from Competere that also addressed economic losses in the U.S. as a result of tighter regulations from South Korea.
"Many American tech companies have faced a range of regulatory actions that seek to punish them while shielding Korean domestic competition," the letter reads. "Recent research by think tank Competere shows such regulatory actions by the ROK government will cost $1 trillion in combined economic damage to the U.S. and Korean economies over the next 10 years, with the U.S. economy losing $525 billion and American households losing nearly $4,000 each."
Kentucky man charged with boating under the influence after female passenger, 19, goes missing
A 23-year-old Kentucky man has been charged with boating under the influence after one of his female passengers disappeared while on his pontoon boat.
Cameron Conley was arrested on charges of boating under the influence on Wednesday after he alerted the Grayson Lake Marina staff that Marly Kinney, 19, was no longer on his boat and that he could not find her.
Kentucky State Police and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources were called in to help with the search, FOX 56 reported.

When the state troopers arrived, they said they could smell alcohol on Conley's breath and asked him if he had been drinking. According to court records obtained by FOX 56, Conley admitted that he had been drinking and consented to a breath test.
Conley's blood alcohol content was measured at 0.137, nearly two times the legal limit in Kentucky. Twenty minutes later, he blew a 0.135, according to authorities.
Conley was arrested and taken to the Carter County Detention Center and has since been released.

Kinney has been missing since 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Lt. Chris Mulholland with the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources told WSAZ.
Mulholland said Kinney was on the boat with multiple other people and that they are not sure when she got off.
Authorities from multiple agencies have been searching for her both in the lake and on the surrounding trails. They are using sonar, K9 teams and drones with thermal detectors in hopes of locating her as quickly as possible.
US COAST GUARD ARRIVES IN BAHAMAS TO SEARCH FOR BODY IN LYNETTE HOOKER INVESTIGATION
Officials said on Friday that a group of 50 volunteers had joined the effort to look for Kinney along the banks of the lake, adding that on and off rain hindered the search, according to WSAZ.
Kinney's family provided a statement to WSAZ thanking law enforcement and first responders for continuing to look for the young woman.
"We do not even know how to express our absolute gratitude to you all. We continue to have faith she will be found and brought back to us. We know we have the very best people doing all they can to bring her home," the statement read.
Kinney's sister, Willow VanHoose, posted pictures of her on Thursday and described what she was wearing at the time of her disappearance.
"She was wearing a pink-orange bikini that is strapless, and is likely to have no shoes. She wears gold jewelry and usually has a dainty gold cross necklace on," she wrote on Facebook. "She has many tattoos, a sword down her side, a spider on her thigh going around it, butterflies on her arm, a tiger on her arm, and fairies on her shoulder."
With the search now entering its third day, there has been no more meaningful progress from teams on the ground, according to Lisa Jackson, a spokesperson for the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
"I understand from our game wardens at the scene that there are no new updates. With weather moving through the area throughout the day, the search is continuing as weather permits," Jackson told Fox News in a statement on Saturday morning.

Tiffany has released her cookbook, "POP LIFE: The Ultimate 80s Kitchen Encore," which has kept her busy most days, along with her growing food and lifestyle brand, "Let’s Food with Tiffany."
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Tiffany explained that releasing "POP LIFE" now felt right because she "organically fell into alignment" with Shevetone.
"She's a chef, she's doing some celebrity parties, working with celebrity chefs," Tiffany noted.
"So, it took a minute because I traveled to Vegas for a show. Of course, I connected with Chef Alicia. We went out for dinner, we went out for drinks, her husband, Mark, my fiancé, Mark. Two 80s girls, literally listening to soundtrack of the 80s, having our cocktails. And I just was like, ‘You know what? I think we should do a cookbook together,’" Tiffany continued.
Tiffany and Shevetone decided to create a cookbook that focused on popular foods in the 80s.

One of the things I love most about sports is that it brings people together. A quick story — my son played high school football, and they had a dramatic win to get them to the state championship game. Literally, a blocked field goal sent them downstate. After the game, everyone was celebrating, and for a split second, I dapped up a guy with whom there is significant bad blood. It was happiness because we put aside the crap and enjoyed a sporting moment. That’s what we see with the World Cup – people from all over coming together and just enjoying a game. It has been up and down for me with betting on the World Cup, but it has been fun, nonetheless.
Croatia vs. Ghana
Croatia needs to win, or they will be sent home. If they end up with a draw, Ghana gets the nod. I suppose Croatia could potentially advance with a draw, but I really don’t understand the nuances of advancing from each of the different groups. I just know eight additional teams will make it in from third place. Rumors are out there that Croatia will likely have a new tactical shift to focus on the middle of the field. That could bring a more aggressive approach to this game. Ghana has done a good job in their games, winning over Panama and tying with England. They have yet to allow a goal, but will need to show some aggressiveness if they want to win instead of just draw against Croatia. I like the under 2.5 goals, but betting it at -160 is pricy. I think you can take a shot on Croatia being aggressive and winning this game at -130.
Columbia vs. Portugal

Columbia has looked like one of the best teams in the World Cup, winning both of their matchups to start the tournament. Portugal won one game and had a draw in the other. Their star, Cristiano Ronaldo, has had a lot of scrutiny, but Ronaldo looked great in his last game, scoring two goals for the team. In their first game against DR Congo, they could only muster up one goal and tied. They played Uzbekistan and dominated them 5-0. This will be a much harder test. Columbia took down both teams, winning 1-0 in their last match against DR Congo, and 3-1 against Uzbekistan. I really like both teams to score in this one at -115. I think both have good offensive attacks and should find ways to get the ball in the net.
Jordan vs. Argentina
There really is nothing to play for here for either team. Argentina is already locked in as the winner of the Group. They won both of their first two matches and have seen Lionel Messi look like the best player in the tournament. I think he will sit here or only play a small portion of the game. Jordan has been eliminated, but it would still mean a lot to get a point against one of the best teams in the World. Pride can motivate a lot of teams. Still, the backups for Argentina are probably better than the best players for Jordan. Argentina has yet to allow a goal in the tournament, but I think Jordan will at least be playing on a more level playing field. I’ll take them to get at least one goal at +114.

Carly Pearce admits her song about sex and Jesus was 'a bit scary' for her inner circle
Carly Pearce is looking back at the risks she took during her career.
In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, the 36-year-old country singer discussed the upcoming release of her fifth studio album, "Honest Woman," which she co-produced with longtime collaborator Ben West.
She also admitted that she likes to "ruffle" people's feathers on the internet, especially when it comes to her song lyrics.
"I think the song that probably was a bit scary for everybody was 'Church Girl,'" she said. "Any time you talk about religion or... Sex, drugs, drinking, same sex and Jesus all in the same sentence, that's a lot."
While it may be "a lot" for her fans, Pearce explained she "thought it was important" for her to put her "flag in the ground on things that are important to me," adding that doing so "makes me proud."

Throughout her career, the "truck on fire" singer has won a Grammy Award, three CMA Awards and four ACM Awards, and has released four studio albums, but says her upcoming fifth album is her must vulnerable.
She explained that she "really challenged myself to kind of be even more honest and vulnerable and real than I ever have been" when writing this album, noting it "feels so personal and it feels like a return to form for me."
"'Dream Come True' was the first song that I wrote for the album, and I remember when I wrote that song, I did not even realize that I needed to write that song, but I was in a place where I really needed that song," she said. "And I think that song in particular opened up my eyes to what needed to happen in order for me to make this record, which was I needed to go on a quest and find myself again."
When comparing "Honest Woman" with her third studio album, "29," Pearce called the two "cousins" and "friends," admitting, "you can't have one without the other."

In support of the album, Pearce will be setting out on a collection of live shows, branded the "Honest Women: Up Close" series, which will feature two-night residencies in a number of cities throughout North America.

"It also feels like the best season of my life. And it felt right," she said. "I think what I've learned more than anything, and I've played pretty much the majority of the venues you can play, big and small — people come to my shows for the storytelling and the singing. They don't come for the show. So I wanted to honor this album that really is based on storytelling and singing."

In addition to being her most vulnerable album yet, it also features collaborations from some other top country artists, including Dan Tyminski, Molly Tuttle and Riley Green, who she called "a great storyteller."
"He is such a great storyteller and artist that I really wanted to be a part of that. I think. I'm so inspired by his ability to captivate a sold-out arena with just he and his guitar singing a song about his grandpa," she said about Green. "That is so awesome that real music can move people like that. And I think that he was the only person for this song because it needed that type of artistry that we can sit in a stadium on stools and sing the song and people love it."

For those who somehow missed it (don't know how that's possible if you read OutKick), Clark was absolutely mugged by Alyssa Thomas in Wednesday's Fever-Mercury showdown. Thomas shoved Clark to the floor, and proceeded to put her fist into Clark's throat before stepping on her.
No foul was called, amazingly. Replay of the no-call quickly went viral, with several prominent media personalities weighing in.
"Tonight was a pivotal moment in Caitlin Clark’s season and career. It’s time the league takes notice and adjusts. It impacts a franchise," said former WNBA player and NFL reporter Stacey Dales.

Heck, even Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita gave his verdict after the WNBA handed Thomas a measly one-game suspension on Thursday.
"That's it? Just one game? Pathetic. No player should have to endure an assault on the court, let alone Caitlin Clark — who has done more for the WNBA than anyone," he said on social media. "The league had the chance to make a strong example to protect her but failed completely. Clark deserves far better."
So, yeah — we've heard from a lot of folks on this one. Now, it's time to hear from you, the fans.
OutKick asked readers on Friday what they thought of the incident, and, to no surprise, you all absolutely blasted the WNBA, the refs, and, of course, Thomas.
"Only a ONE GAME suspension??? Are you kidding me??? That's felony assault. In no way was that accidental," said one reader.
"How can the league continue to look the other way?" added another. "One game suspension, really? How about jail time?"
"Thomas should be thrown out of basketball, and cited for an assault," said a third.
Seems a bit harsh if you ask me, but perhaps not? Would be one heck of a precedent to set!
While a ton of you advocated for jail time, others said Caitlin should take the case all the way to the top. Let a jury decide!
"Clark needs to sue the WNBA," one reader suggested. "The discovery alone will bury them."
What a court case THAT would be! It would make the O.J. trial look tame. Imagine the C-SPAN ratings?
Clark, by the way, won't play today against the LA Sparks. She left Wednesday's game with a back injury (shocker), and has already been ruled out tonight.
Some readers suggested that Clark should never return, instead taking her ball and going overseas. That, by the way, would be a disaster for the WNBA. The league would crumble. It would be toast.

"If there is a team for her in Europe or any place that isn’t the WNBA, she should absolutely go," a reader said. "Let the insufferables of the WNBA watch their crowds, money and everything else dwindle without her."
"Caitlin Clark needs to walk away from the game she loves," another added. "She doesn't need it and the only reason she is subject to this behavior by other players, coaches, and league leadership is simply put, SHE'S WHITE! No other reason or excuse!"
Ah, yes. Racism. That was a biggie for readers. I'd wager to say that 80% of the emails we received — and we got about 50 of them — had to do with race.
Caitlin Clark is a white player in a league that is 65(ish)% Black. In today's world, you can't have a good drama without some racial undertones.
"Caitlin Clark has become the Donald Trump of the WNBA," one reader said. "The WNBA is 'killing the golden goose.' and nobody cares. Sad! Racism? Jealousy? You decide."
"After this latest assault on Caitlin, I'm convinced it's all about race. Yes, RACE," added another.
"You are all afraid to say it out loud, they hate her because she is a star and is white," said a third.
I could go on and on. You get the picture.
Finally, on the way out, one reader left us with a theory that I very much support:
"(Angel) Reese grabs a folding metal chair and climbs to the top of the backboard, jumps off and smashes the chair over Clark's back. Clark, prone on the hardwood, tags in (Sophie) Cunningham, who has an industrial size fire extinguisher, and proceeds to pursue Reese around the ring ... court."

Scarlett Bordeaux eyes MLW Women's World Championship: 'The day's coming'
Major League Wrestling star Scarlett Bordeaux has been on a bit of a winning streak since "MLW Fusion" aired earlier this month and has her eyes set on some gold.
Bordeaux has wins over Aleah James and Blair Onyx in recent weeks. Her longtime friend, Shotzi, won the MLW Women’s World Championship against Shoko Nakajima, and while Bordeaux is happy for her, she’ll be ready to fight when the time comes.

"Man, she’s getting decorated. The girl deserves it," Bordeaux told Fox News Digital of Shotzi. "I’m telling you, she’s the hardest worker. I know in the last month, she’s had like 24 matches. So, 24 matches, multiple countries. She’s the hardest worker, an incredible wrestler. I’m so, so proud of her.
"You know I’ll always support my girl, Shotzi. That’s my girl. But when it’s time to fight. It’s time to fight. It’s such a complicated thing because I love that belt on her but when I did come to MLW to prove myself, to get that gold, the day’s coming. Let’s put it that way."

After her recent win against Onyx, Bordeaux said she was looking forward to the match.
"So, I was really excited to wrestle Blair Onyx. She came from Black and Brave Academy. I knew Seth Rollins, who was Tyler Black in (Ring of Honor) when I started," she said. "So, she was a student of his. So, getting to work with her, she was such a special character, super athletic. I think she’s great. I really, really had a good time working with her. She’s very flexible. I don’t know if you saw but her shoulder pops out and rolls back in, which I thought was awesome. She’s very, very special and I feel like she’s going to be doing a lot in the next few years. Everyone is going to be seeing her everywhere."
Bordeaux has been back at MLW since November, re-appearing in the company with her husband Killer Kross.
She said she was enjoying being able to show her creative abilities more.
"We have been able to collaborate so many great ideas that we’ve pitched," she told Fox News Digital. "MLW has been just so great to work for. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them. The matches and the opponents they’ve given me have all been so incredibly talented. Lady Frost is definitely a pain in the a-- in the ring but she’s so talented too and so athletic. They’ve really built this incredible company with this great roster. I feel very lucky to be there."
