Travis Kelce held without touchdown in possible final home game as Broncos narrowly top Chiefs
Travis Kelce had three of his five catches on the Kansas City Chiefs’ final drive against the Denver Broncos, but the team couldn’t do enough to win the game.
Kelce, in what may have been his final game at Arrowhead Stadium before potentially calling it quits, had five catches for 36 yards. Denver won the game, 20-13.
The tight end threw his gloves to the crowd as he walked back to the locker room.

Kansas City’s offense was pretty putrid the entire night but the game came down to the wire.
The Chiefs suffered their first penalty of the night at the worst moment. The Broncos were lined up to go for it on 4th-and-2 from Kansas City’s 9-yard line. As Bo Nix called signals, Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones committed an offside penalty. It gave the Broncos a fresh set of downs and the chance to deliver the dagger into the hearts of Chiefs fans.
Nix found R.J. Harvey for the go-ahead score with 1:45 left in the game. It proved to be the game-winner.
The second-year Broncos quarterback finished 26-of-38 with 182 passing yards and a touchdown pass to Harvey. The lone interception led to a touchdown drive for the Chiefs.
Chiefs quarterback Chris Oladokun had 66 passing yards on three completions. He threw a touchdown pass to Brashard Smith.

Kansas City only had 139 yards of total offense. By the end of the game, much of the focus was on Kelce.

"I’ve got to hope that, you know, if I do want to come back, the Chiefs are willing to bring me back.
"So it’s a two-way street on that, but, at the same time, man, I am, at this point in this year, I’m just trying to finish out and give Chiefs Kingdom everything I got and go out there and do it with some of that flair that you said I play with."
He said he would lean on his brother, Jason, and Gonzalez for some added advice.
Kansas City was already eliminated from the playoffs and injuries hampered any chance of the team playing spoiler.

Taylor Swift showed up to Arrowhead Stadium Thursday night to watch fiancé Travis Kelce in what could be his final home game with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Swift, wearing a red leather jacket, was shown on the Amazon Prime Video broadcast hugging a friend.
The pop star has mostly been out of the NFL spotlight after the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles in February and the two announced their engagement.

But it was a special night for Kelce as he mulls his NFL future.
Amazon Prime Video aired an interview between him and Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez before the game began.

Trio of Palestinians arrested for allegedly torching Christmas tree at Catholic church in West Bank
Three Palestinians were arrested on accusations of lighting a Christmas tree on fire and damaging part of a Nativity scene at a Catholic church in the Israeli-occupied West Bank city of Jenin, the Palestinian Authority Police announced.
The attack happened at around 3 a.m. Monday, according to the church.
Palestinian Authority Police said Wednesday the three were taken into custody after a review of surveillance footage targeting the Holy Redeemer Church of Jenin. Tools believed to have been used in the attack were seized from the suspects.
Police condemned the apparent attempt to incite sectarian and religious tensions in the West Bank.
The church shared photos on social media showing the skeleton of a synthetic Christmas tree that had been cleared of the green plastic branches, and red and gold ornaments were scattered across a courtyard.
The torched tree was quickly cleaned up by the church, which erected a new one a day after the attack in time for Christmas Mass.
The church held a special ceremony with local Muslim and Christian leaders and politicians in attendance. Rev. Amer Jubran, the local priest at the church, said the arson was an isolated incident and emphasized the city’s unity.
"This occasion reaffirmed that attempts to harm religious symbols will never diminish the spirit of the city nor the faith of its people," the Holy Redeemer Church said in a statement.
The small Christian community in the West Bank is facing increasing threats of extremism from various sides, including both Israeli settlers and Palestinian extremists, prompting them to escape the region.
Christians make up between 1-2% of the West Bank’s roughly 3 million residents, and the vast majority of the community is Muslim. Across the entire Middle East, the Christian population has been declining as people have fled conflict.
In Israel, some church authorities and monitoring groups have documented a recent uptick in anti-Christian sentiment and harassment, including in Jerusalem’s Old City. Extremist Israeli settlers have also reportedly vandalized and torched areas around churches and Christian villages.

The Israel-Hamas war in Gaza kicked off a surge of violence in the West Bank, with the Israeli military's offensive targeting terrorists killing hundreds of Palestinians and displacing tens of thousands. Terrorists have also attacked and killed Israelis in Israel and the West Bank.
The conflict has coincided with an increase in Israeli settler violence and Palestinian attacks on Israelis.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr takes ownership in sideline clash with Draymond Green
Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr addressed his heated exchange with Draymond Green during a lengthy media session Wednesday.
Green left the team bench area during a timeout in the third quarter of Golden State’s game against the Orlando Magic Monday and eventually headed to the locker room to cool off. Kerr said that even after Green returned to the bench for the rest of the game, he was not going to play.
"We had it out a little bit, and he made his decision to go back to the locker room to cool off, and that’s all I’m going to say about it. Everything is private. I've got nothing further to add," Kerr said at the time. Green had nine points and seven rebounds in Monday’s 120-97 win.

Kerr later shouldered blame for his role in the blowup.
"Monday night was not my finest hour, and that was a time I needed to be calm in the huddle," Kerr said after Wednesday’s practice ahead of Golden State’s Christmas Day meeting with the Dallas Mavericks. "I regret my actions in that exchange. I apologized to [Green]. He apologized to me. We both apologized to the team."
Kerr added he and Green are both competitive by nature, which can at times lead to spirited moments.
"These things, they happen, especially when you get two incredibly competitive people like Dray and me. So, over the 12 years we've been together, this has happened occasionally, and I'm not proud of it."
Kerr and Green first formed their partnership when the former NBA player was named head coach of the Warriors. He continued to highlight the similarities he shares with Green.
"We are far more alike than anyone would ever realize. So, yeah, this is not totally uncommon. I would say this hasn't happened in a few years, this kind of a divide and a blowup, but in our 12 years together, it's not the first time. And we've always, always found a way to, not only bounce back, but to make strides as a result."
Kerr also made a clear point about Green's basketball legacy.
"My No. 1 goal, honestly, is for him to finish his career as a Warrior with us fighting metaphorically — not literally but fighting and competing together — until we're both gone. And I believe that's going to happen. Because I believe in Draymond, and I believe in myself. And I believe in everything we've built for 12 years."
The Warriors defeated the Mavericks on Christmas Day to improve to 16-15 on the season.

Russian forces near collapse in Kupyansk as Moscow allies concede city lost: report
Russian forces appear close to being pushed out of the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kupyansk, with only a small number of isolated troops remaining and even pro-Kremlin voices acknowledging the setback, according to a report.
The Kyiv Post reported Thursday that Ukrainian military officials say Russian units left inside the city are cut off from reliable supply lines and are increasingly surrendering as their position deteriorates.
Viktor Trehubov, head of communications for Ukraine’s Joint Forces grouping, said Russian forces inside Kupyansk now number only several dozen and include foreign mercenaries fighting alongside Moscow’s troops.
"They are surrendering," Trehubov said during a televised briefing carried by Ukrainian state media. "There have even been cases of foreigners — foreign mercenaries for the Russians — giving themselves up."

According to Ukrainian officials, the remaining Russian units are surviving largely on limited air resupply, a tactic that cannot sustain long-term operations inside the city.
"Supply by air bridge alone is not something that allows them to hold out for long," Trehubov said.
While Russian forces continue to launch multiple assaults along the Kupyansk axis each day, Ukrainian officials say those attacks lack the manpower and reserves needed to change the balance on the ground.

"At this stage, they simply do not have additional capabilities to somehow restore the situation," Trehubov said.
The Kyiv Post also reported that Russian military bloggers and war correspondents have begun openly conceding that Kupyansk is no longer under Russian control, marking a notable shift in Kremlin-aligned messaging.
"An entire wave of messages appeared saying that Kupyansk is gone," Trehubov said. "Even Russian propagandists have switched to a line acknowledging that the city is no longer under their control."
Ukrainian officials stressed that Russia never fully reestablished control over Kupyansk after its liberation in September 2022, aside from a brief occupation during the early phase of the invasion.

"In reality, it was never fully taken by them in order to be ‘lost,’ aside from a short period in 2022," Trehubov said.
Efforts by Russian units to dig in within the city’s northern districts have failed, leaving those forces unable to withdraw or receive reinforcements, Ukrainian officials said.
"They themselves now admit that the defense of the city by the same units that entered and tried to secure positions in the northern districts has failed," Trehubov said.

Combat continues outside the city, particularly from positions across the Oskil River, though Ukrainian forces maintain control of Kupyansk itself.
Ukraine’s General Staff said Russian troops carried out five attacks in the Kupyansk sector Dec. 24, all of which were repelled near Petropavlivka, Pishchane, Zahryzove and Kupyansk.
Trehubov said a recent Ukrainian counteroffensive further disrupted Russian efforts to stabilize the front.
"The counteroffensive came as a surprise for the enemy," he said. "Right now, they simply lack the resources to regain control."
Kupyansk, a key rail and road hub in the Kharkiv region with a prewar population of about 27,000, has long been a focal point of Russian territorial claims.
The city was briefly occupied during the opening months of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 before being liberated by Ukrainian forces later that year, a history Ukrainian officials say Moscow has repeatedly tried to obscure through disinformation.
Australian prime minister announces national bravery honors after antisemitic terror attack
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced Thursday his government plans to establish a national bravery award to recognize the civilians and first responders who risked their lives during a mass shooting earlier this month that left 15 people dead at a Hanukkah celebration.
The announcement came as Australia grapples with the aftermath of its deadliest massacre since 1996, which officials have described as an ISIS-inspired attack targeting the country’s Jewish community during the holiday season.
Albanese said Christmas was marked by a sharp contrast between extremist violence and the "best of humanity."
"This Christmas is a different one because of the anti-terror and the terrorist attack motivated by ISIS and antisemitism," Albanese said during a press conference. "But, at the same time, as we have seen the worst of humanity, we have seen the bravery and kindness and compassion ... from those who rushed to danger."

Albanese said his government plans to create a special honors system recognizing the heroism of those who confronted what he called "the worst of evil" during the Dec. 14 attack, including Ahmed al Ahmed, a Syria-born Australian Muslim store owner captured on video tackling and disarming one of the gunmen before being wounded.
The award would recognize those nominated for bravery or meritorious awards under the existing Australian Honors and Awards system for their actions during and after the attack, according to The Associated Press.
Two different bystanders, identified as Boris and Sofia Gurman, were seen on video confronting a gunman before the shooting began at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.

Despite their efforts to disarm him, the gunman later overpowered and killed them, according to authorities.
Australian authorities say a father and son accused of carrying out the attack — 50-year-old Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son, Naveed Akram — filmed a video manifesto containing antisemitic language and expressions of support for the Islamic State.
The pair may have been planning the attack for several months, investigators said.
Only the son survived the attack and now faces murder and terrorism charges.

Charles Barkley blasts NFL for Christmas Day games
NFL games on Christmas Day are a relatively new thing.
Usually, the NFL has owned Thanksgiving Day, aside from the games played on Sundays and Mondays.
This year, the NFL partnered with Netflix to show two games during the day and a game on Amazon Prime Video at night. The games are going up against the NBA, which has owned the Christmas holiday on TV for several years.

The NFL’s encroachment on the NBA is something that appeared to irk Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley.
"The NFL got greedy and started adding Christmas games. We used to have this day to ourselves, but Roger Goodell and them pigs at the NFL always want to hog every day of the week now," Barkley said on ESPN as the NBA’s schedule got started. "Christmas is an NBA day."
Barkley blasted the NFL in January 2024 for having an exclusive Peacock game during the playoffs.

He said at the time that showing a playoff game through streaming was "low class."
"That’s not cool. They’re just being greedy pigs," he said on ESPN Radio at the time. I’m disgusted."
The NFL’s domination over the sports conversation is only going to grow should the league and players agree to an 18th regular-season game, a notion that has been floated in recent years with the possibility of the Super Bowl moving to Presidents Day.

Vikings squash Lions' playoff chances on Christmas Day, force 6 turnovers
The Detroit Lions were hoping for a gift from the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas. Instead, they got a lump of coal and then some.
The Vikings played spoiler with an upset victory over their NFC North rival, 23-10.
Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison didn’t touch the ball until the fourth quarter and made the biggest play of the night. He took a handoff from quarterback Max Brosmer, found space on the right side of the line of scrimmage and powered through the Swiss cheese Lions defense.

The 66-yard touchdown run extended the Vikings’ lead to 10 points. On the Lions’ next drive, Jared Goff committed the team’s sixth turnover on the night. The Lions had four fumbles and two interceptions. Goff was responsible for five of them. Jahmyr Gibbs also had a fumble.
A win for Detroit would have kept its playoff hopes alive at least for another two days, but the loss sinks the team’s dreams altogether after being in the postseason the last two years and finishing the 2024 season with a 15-2 record.

Detroit drops to 8-8 on the season with the loss.
Goff was 18-for-29 for 197 yards passing and a touchdown pass. He was sacked five times. Amon-Ra St. Brown led the Lions with eight catches for 68 yards. Isaac TeSlaa had three catches for 49 yards and a touchdown catch.
Brosmer started the game for an injured J.J. McCarthy. He was 9 of 16 for 51 yards. Justin Jefferson had four catches for 30 yards. Aaron Jones added a rushing touchdown.
The win was the fourth straight for the Vikings. They are 8-8 with the Green Bay Packers left on their schedule.
