Chaos unfolds in New York City after Knicks win first NBA championship in decades
New York City erupted in celebration after the Knicks won their first NBA championship in more than 50 years, but some festivities quickly turned chaotic as police made arrests and reports of vandalism surfaced across Manhattan.
The Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Saturday in Texas, capturing the franchise's first championship since 1973 and sparking jubilant scenes throughout the city.
In the aftermath of the historic victory, some individuals were seen causing damage in videos circulating on social media.
One video appeared to show two people jumping onto the roof of an NYPD vehicle and smashing its windshield.

Another appeared to show individuals climbing on and entering school buses near Times Square.
Although the championship-clinching game was played thousands of miles away, police maintained a large presence around Madison Square Garden, the Knicks' home arena.
Ahead of the game, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged fans to celebrate responsibly if the Knicks secured the franchise's first NBA title in more than five decades.
"As we celebrate, be responsible, look out for one another, stay safe, be smart, and make this a night that reflects the very best of our city," Mamdani wrote on social media. "Let's go Knicks."
Despite those calls, some celebrations turned disorderly after the final buzzer.
Officers in riot gear and on horseback worked to manage large crowds that poured into the streets following the win.
Additional videos posted online appeared to show police making arrests amid the celebrations.
The NYPD told Fox News Digital it expects to provide an update on the number of arrests later Sunday.
"We will advise total numbers later on in the day," an NYPD spokesperson said.
Emergency officials warned residents and visitors to expect road closures and traffic delays in the area surrounding Madison Square Garden.
Authorities also urged anyone celebrating to follow NYPD instructions.

Trump backs MAGA champion Mike Collins in Georgia's Republican Senate runoff
President Donald Trump on Saturday made an 11th-hour endorsement in a crucial Senate race in battleground Georgia, which is among a handful that will likely decide if the GOP holds its slim majority in the chamber in November's midterm elections.
Trump endorsed Republican Rep. Mike Collins, a MAGA champion and strong supporter of the president, who is facing off in Tuesday's runoff election against former college football coach Derek Dooley, who has the support of popular conservative Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.
The winner of the GOP Senate nomination will face off in the midterms against Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff. Republicans view Ossoff as the most vulnerable Senate Democrat seeking re-election and are heavily targeting the first-term senator.
Collins, who represents Georgia's 10th Congressional District, which is located between Atlanta and Augusta, is the son of the late Rep. Mac Collins, and is the founder and co-owner, along with his wife, of a trucking company.

He and Dooley, a lawyer, a former University of Tennessee football coach and the son of legendary University of Georgia head football coach Vince Dooley, were the top two finishers in a crowded field of candidates that also included Rep. Buddy Carter. Since no one topped 50% in last month's primary, Collins and Dooley advanced to Tuesday's runoff election.
While Collins has long showcased his MAGA credentials and support for the president, Trump remained neutral in the Georgia primary and runoff election until now.
Meanwhile, Dooley is strongly backed by the term-limited Kemp, who is a lifelong friend. Kemp and his wife, Georgia First Lady Marty Kemp, have regularly appeared with Dooley on the campaign trail, and the governor's top political advisor is a senior consultant for Dooley's Senate bid.

While Dooley has emphasized his outsider image and targeted Collins as a political insider, Collins has criticized him for a lack of political experience and for living outside of Georgia for much of his adult life.
Both candidates have some political baggage.
The House Ethics Committee has been investigating Collins over allegations he paid an intern in a district office who had a romantic relationship with his congressional chief of staff but who did not actually perform any work. Collins denied any wrongdoing and kept the staffer on his Senate campaign.
But the staffer was later fired by Collins after taking to social media on behalf of the campaign to mock the wife of a Dooley campaign advisor who attempted suicide after accusing Matt Lauer of rape. The social media post was deleted and Collins apologized, calling the tweet "despicable and unauthorized."
Dooley, over the past week, was reportedly accused of being part of a "pay to play" scandal involving brother Daniel Dooley, and the governor. Dooley and Kemp have denied any wrongdoing, but Democrats in the legislature requested an independent investigation.
While the Republicans have been battling for their party's nomination over the past year, Ossoff has built a powerful war chest that will give him a major fundraising advantage as the general election gets underway.
While he isn't on the ballot, the president's immense clout over the GOP is also facing another key test in Georgia's other runoff, where Trump-backed Lt. Gov. Burt Jones is battling billionaire businessman Rick Jackson for the GOP gubernatorial nomination, in the race to succeed Kemp.
The brute force of the president's endorsement power has been on display in GOP primaries over the past month, with his candidates ousting incumbents he targeted in showdowns in Indiana, Louisiana, Kentucky and Texas that grabbed plenty of national attention.
But Trump's endorsement streak in statewide and congressional Republican primaries was snapped two weeks ago when his 11th-hour endorsement of Republican Rep. Randy Feenstra of Iowa in the race to succeed retiring GOP Gov. Kim Reynolds wasn't enough to propel the three-term congressman to victory.
Feenstra was narrowly edged by Zach Lahn, a businessman, farmer and former political strategist who was backed by the political wings of MAHA — the acronym for the Make America Healthy Again movement aligned with Trump Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — and Turning Point USA, the powerful conservative organization co-founded by the late Charlie Kirk.
Trump rebounded last week, as the candidate he endorsed in the South Carolina GOP gubernatorial primary, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, finished first in a crowded field and clinched one of the two tickets in the race for the nomination.
Meanwhile, longtime Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham did win a majority of the vote in the Republican Senate primary, and avoided a runoff.
Graham, who was endorsed by Trump, was facing primary challenges from five candidates, including conservative businessman Mark Lynch, who took aim at the senator over his support for the war in Iran. Lynch was backed by some MAGA leaders who have been critical of the president.
Two suspects arrested after crashing through Camp Pendleton gate with 112 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl
A six-hour manhunt at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California ended with the arrests of two suspects who breached the installation during a police pursuit and abandoned a vehicle carrying more than 110 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl, authorities said.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) said the "high-stakes" incident began when two suspects fleeing local law enforcement crashed through a gate at the base.
The suspects then abandoned their vehicle in a military housing area and fled on foot, according to NCIS.
The breach prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order as authorities worked to secure the installation.

NCIS said a multi-agency search involving approximately 30 personnel was launched to locate the suspects.
For six hours, military and law enforcement personnel searched the sprawling base using real-time intelligence and tracking support from the NCIS Multiple Threat Alert Center and Regional Enforcement Action Capabilities Team.
Authorities said both suspects were ultimately taken into custody without incident.

Investigators later discovered approximately 51 kilograms — more than 112 pounds — of cocaine and fentanyl inside the suspects' vehicle, according to NCIS.
"Thanks to NCIS personnel, Orange County Sheriff's Department, CA, Camp Pendleton Provost Marshal’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA, US Border Patrol, and other responding agencies, for your seamless teamwork and dedication to keeping our military installations safe!" NCIS posted on social media.
Officials did not immediately release the identities of the suspects or announce what charges they may face.
Knicks beat Spurs in Game 5 to win first NBA championship since 1973, ending 53-year drought
The New York Knicks completed one of the most memorable seasons in franchise history Saturday night inside Frost Bank Center, beating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals to capture their first championship since 1973.
The only downside was that they didn't win the clincher in front of the home fans at Madison Square Garden, but there were enough Knicks fans in San Antonio to make it feel like a New York City crowd at times.
New York entered the night with a 3-1 series lead and a chance to end 53 years of frustration. The Knicks completed a historic comeback in Game 4 to put themselves on the precipice of basketball greatness, and they finished the job on Saturday night. While they would have loved to do it at home, the Knicks clearly weren't going to give away an opportunity to clinch an NBA championship.

Game 5 started out like every other game in the series, with San Antonio quickly jumping out to a lead. The Spurs won the first quarter for the fifth straight time, and once again, the Knicks found themselves staring at a double-digit deficit.
New York scored just 13 points on 4-for-22 shooting in the opening quarter, tied for the second-fewest in an NBA Finals opening quarter in the shot-clock era, according to ESPN. Only the 2016 Golden State Warriors, who scored 11 points in the first quarter of Game 6 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, had fewer.
But the Knicks did what they’ve done all series.
After trailing by as many as 16 points in the first half, New York cut the deficit to five points at halftime. A late flagrant foul call against Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox helped New York turn one possession into five points with just over a minute left in the second quarter. The Knicks cut the lead to three, but Devin Vassell beat the first-half buzzer with a midrange jumper.
Jalen Brunson scored 16 of New York’s 37 first-half points, while Victor Wembanyama nearly posted a double-double in the first 24 minutes with nine points and nine rebounds. However, the Knicks had a major problem almost immediately after halftime. Karl-Anthony Towns, the team's most impactful big man, picked up his fourth foul just 15 seconds into the third quarter.
The impact was felt almost immediately as his replacement, Mitchell Robinson, committed a flagrant foul that allowed San Antonio to return the favor with a six-point sequence, stretching the lead back to double digits.
Then came another turning point: Brunson appeared to roll his ankle with 5:18 left in the third quarter. After making a three-pointer, Brunson landed on Wembanyama's foot. Both Brunson and Knicks coach Mike Brown screamed at the referees for not calling a foul on Wembanyama, which could have been ruled a flagrant closeout. Had officials assessed a flagrant, it would have triggered an automatic suspension for a potential Game 6, since it would have been his fourth flagrant point of the playoffs.
Instead, play continued, and Vassell answered with a 3-pointer on the other end. Brunson immediately returned to the game after a New York timeout, but momentum appeared to shift back toward San Antonio as the Spurs later stretched the lead to 15 points. Dylan Harper scored 10 of his 25 points in the third quarter.
But Brunson didn’t let that moment affect his play. Once again, the star guard put the team on his back with Towns stuck on the bench in foul trouble, scoring 14 points in the third quarter to cut the lead to seven heading into the fourth.
And Brunson wasn’t even close to done.
He hit a layup with 4:48 to go that tied the game at 83 and gave him 40 points. After the Spurs answered, Brunson drew a foul on a 3-point attempt with 3:40 left and hit all three free throws, giving the Knicks their first lead since early in the first quarter. They pushed it to three, their largest lead of the game, with 2:07 left on a goaltending violation.
The final minutes turned chaotic from there. Towns fouled out, Wembanyama split two free throws, Harper tied the game, and Brunson answered with another basket to put the Knicks back in front.
New York survived the scramble by controlling the glass and doing just enough at the free-throw line. Castle’s putback dunk cut the deficit to two with 16 seconds left, but Mikal Bridges split a pair on the other end to give the Spurs the ball with eight seconds left, trailing by three.
The Knicks elected to foul rather than allow San Antonio to attempt a tying three and the strategy worked exactly as intended. Harper missed both free throws, the Knicks grabbed the rebound and that was all she wrote.
Brunson scored 45 points, tied for the third-most points ever in a clinching NBA Finals game.

There will be time to figure out what this means for San Antonio and Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs aren't going anywhere with a roster built around young stars Wembanyama, Harper and Castle. But Saturday night belonged to the Knicks.
For more than five decades, Knicks fans waited for a team to deliver another championship. They waited through bad teams, failed rebuilds, 22 different head coaches, missed opportunities and endless jokes.
The waiting is over.

Judge defends barring cameras from Karmelo Anthony murder trial, says it was 'an easy decision'
The judge who presided over the high-profile murder trial of Karmelo Anthony is standing by one of the case's most controversial decisions, saying keeping cameras out of the courtroom was necessary to ensure a fair trial.
Judge John Roach of the 296th District Court said this week that it was the correct decision to bar cameras and livestreaming during Anthony's murder trial.
A Collin County jury on Tuesday sentenced Anthony to 35 years in prison after finding him guilty of murder in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Memorial High School student Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas.
In an interview with WFAA following the verdict, Roach defended his decision to bar cameras and livestreaming from the courtroom.
"Yes, it was an easy decision," Roach told the station. "I'll tell you why. My primary goal in every case is to make sure the defendant and the prosecution get a fair trial. Period."
"I know I made people mad but I'm not here to make them happy either," he added.
The decision to bar cameras and livestreaming drew criticism from reporters and members of the public who wanted greater access to the proceedings.

"I had to balance between the media's right to know and be able to know what's going on, which I think is extraordinarily important. I think the public had access to the courtroom and see what is going on," Roach said.
The Texas judge said his goal was to prevent outside commentary and public pressure from influencing the proceedings or the jury.
"As long as I follow the law, I sleep well at night," Roach said.
Roach also pushed back on claims that he had a personal relationship with the Metcalf family.
"I wouldn't know Mr. Metcalf prior to this trial if he walked up to me and said 'hello,'" he said.
When asked whether the jury reached the correct verdict, Roach said he believed they did.

"Yes they did because they were picked based upon the law, they listened to the facts, it happened in this courtroom, and they got a verdict," he said.
Roach also shared his impressions of Anthony following the trial.
"He seems like a nice young man who committed a crime and he understands today more than any day before the consequences of committing a crime like he did," he said.

Florida man arrested for DUI after troopers allegedly find 34 open alcohol containers in vehicle
A Florida man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper stopped him for allegedly speeding more than 90 mph on Interstate 75 in Pasco County and discovered dozens of open alcohol containers inside his vehicle, authorities said.
The traffic stop happened on I-75 near the 280-mile marker in Pasco County, according to the FHP.
Authorities said a trooper was patrolling northbound when a Honda Civic passed the patrol vehicle at speeds exceeding 90 mph.
The trooper initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Conor William Parady of San Antonio, Florida.
During the encounter, the trooper said Parady allegedly appeared to be heavily intoxicated.
Troopers also discovered 34 open alcohol containers inside the vehicle during the stop, authorities said.
Authorities said the trooper's observations during the stop led to a DUI investigation.

Parady was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to the Pasco County Jail.
According to FHP, authorities reported a blood alcohol concentration of 0.177 following the arrest. Florida's legal limit for drivers is 0.08.
Online jail records showed Parady was booked into the Pasco County Jail following the arrest. It was not immediately clear whether he had retained an attorney.
Under Florida law, a first-time DUI conviction can carry penalties that include fines, probation, community service and a driver's license suspension, though any potential penalties in this case would depend on the outcome of court proceedings.
A spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for additional comment Saturday evening.
No injuries were reported.

In a recent Instagram post, the 34-year-old country superstar shared a carousel of photos of her "Life lately," which included pictures of her with her husband, Devlin "Duck" Hodges, in the studio and some on a boat with friends.
While on the boat, Wilson was photographed snacking on a sandwich as she looked into the distance, while dressed in a leopard-print bikini, which she paired with a tan visor, small hoop earrings and a pair of sunglasses.
Other photos show her in a group photo with her girlfriends, all of whom have on oversized white T-shirts humorously designed to look like they are wearing bikinis.

Wilson and Hodges began dating in 2021 but kept their relationship quiet until making their red carpet debut in May 2023 at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
The two continued to attend red carpet events together after their debut, with Hodges later congratulating Wilson on her entertainer of the year win at the 2023 CMA Awards on Instagram, complimenting her work ethic, and ending the post by writing, "I’m just thankful to call her my best friend. Love ya LW."
After four years of dating, the couple got engaged in February 2025, and tied the knot last month.

Arrests reportedly made after theft of equipment from England's World Cup team before opener
The English national team is still a few days away from their World Cup opener, but it has already been an eventful tournament for them after some of their equipment was stolen while en route to the team's training base in Kansas City.
The Three Lions start their tournament slate on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas, against Croatia, but their base of operations for the tournament will be Kansas City's Swope Soccer Village.
According to the BBC, the plan was to move equipment into place before the team arrived on Saturday; however, some of the vehicles moving that equipment were broken into. The theft is believed to have happened at some point on its journey from Florida to Kansas City.

Police responded to the theft on Friday night, and while footwear was among the items stolen, none of the missing equipment was considered essential for the team to play.

"We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening," a Kansas City Police spokesman said. "The investigation is ongoing."
Well, the investigation panned out, because the equipment was eventually recovered and two arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
England follows up their match against Croatia in Arlington with a match in Boston against Ghana on June 23. They will then finish up their group stage slate with a match against Panama in New Jersey.
The team is expected to make it out of the group stage and possibly even win the group.
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson dismisses Wembanyama anthem controversy ahead of Knicks-Spurs Game 5
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Victor Wembanyama’s U.S. national anthem controversy followed the NBA Finals back to San Antonio.
As he did before Game 1, Wembanyama stood with his arms crossed during "The Star-Spangled Banner" before Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Saturday night at Frost Bank Center.

OutKick/Fox News Digital asked Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson before the game whether the team had talked to Wembanyama about the anthem discussion and whether Wembanyama would be on the floor for the anthem before Game 5.
"Not at all," Johnson said. "I think there are plenty of players that are not on the floor during the anthem. I don’t know if that’s habit, superstition, bathroom, whatever it may be. I don’t foresee anything looking into that at all."
It was the first public response from the Spurs after Wembanyama’s anthem posture and apparent pregame absences became a Finals subplot.
The controversy started before Game 1, when ABC/ESPN cameras showed Wembanyama standing with his arms crossed during "The Star-Spangled Banner." The image quickly spread on social media, where some fans criticized the pose as disrespectful while others defended Wembanyama, who is from France.

But the scrutiny didn’t end there.
Wembanyama was not seen on the court during ESPN’s anthem coverage before Games 3 and 4 at Madison Square Garden. Most Spurs players appeared to be lined up for the anthem, but Wembanyama was not visible during the portions shown on the broadcast.
Notably, Johnson did not deny that Wembanyama elected to stay off the court during those two anthems.
OutKick reviewed ESPN’s broadcasts from the first four games of the series. Wembanyama was shown during anthem coverage before Games 1 and 2, but not during Games 3 and 4. ESPN also noticeably changed its broadcast presentation of the anthem for Game 4, though it is unclear whether that had anything to do with Wembanyama not being visible.
ABC/ESPN returned to its normal anthem production for Game 5 with Wembanyama on the court and the broadcast showed the Spurs star with his arms crossed.
OutKick/Fox News Digital has continued to pursue the issue throughout the Finals. OutKick/Fox News Digital has asked the Spurs, NBA and ESPN for comment, and none have offered an explanation.
To OutKick/Fox News Digital’s knowledge, the question to Johnson ahead of Game 5 was the first time a media member brought up the controversy to one of the involved parties.
That made Saturday’s anthem before Game 5 the next potential flashpoint.
The Spurs entered Saturday night trailing the Knicks 3-1 in the NBA Finals, needing a win to keep their season alive and force the series back to Madison Square Garden. New York, meanwhile, had a chance to win its first NBA championship since 1973.
But before Game 5 tipped off, Victor Wembanyama and the U.S. national anthem were again part of the story.
And after Saturday night, the controversy is not going away.
