Keith Mitchell has one of the wildest rounds in US Open history as Wyndham Clark jumps out to early lead

The first round of the 126th U.S. Open kicked off on Thursday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on Long Island, with several big storylines making pre-tournament headlines.

A win for world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler would secure the career Grand Slam, literally on his 30th birthday. Rory McIlroy, after securing the Grand Slam himself in 2025, already has another Masters win under his belt in 2026. A second major win this year would give him seven for his career and put him alongside even more impressive historic company. Only Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen and Harry Vardon have ever won exactly seven majors. And would put him behind just Tom Watson, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, Walter Hagen, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus all time.

The field has one of the best amateur groups in recent history, with NCAA Men's Division I Champion Preston Stout, 17-year-old Miles Russell, and Auburn star Jackson Koivun.

Shinnecock is also widely viewed as one of the toughest tests in golf, and the forecast for extremely high winds led the USGA to put out a statement on their intention to "syringe" the greens with water to ensure the course doesn't get away from them.

And yet, with all those narratives and top players to track, the golfer with the wildest day was undoubtedly ... Keith Mitchell?

Mitchell started his day on the 10th hole, and promptly made double bogey after pulling his drive into the rough. He then made bogey on the 11th hole. And the 13th. And 14th. And then the 16th too, for good measure. All told through his first nine holes, the back nine at Shinnecock, he was six over par with a 41. Sounds like a recipe for a missed cut, right?

Except after making the turn to the front nine, Mitchell transformed into peak Tiger Woods. He birdied the first hole, then birdied the third. And the fourth. On the par-five fifth, Mitchell made one of just two eagles on the day. Then he finished out the front nine with yet another birdie on the 479-yard par four. Six shots over par on the back nine, then six under par on the front nine.

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER TELLS ONE TRUTH AND A LIE AHEAD OF WHAT COULD BE A HISTORIC US OPEN AT SHINNECOCK HILLS

That's a 41-29 card for an even-par 70. One of the wildest rounds in U.S. Open history.

Incredibly, of all the many thousands of rounds played in the U.S. Open, it was just the seventh time in tournament history someone carded a 29 over nine holes. According to The Athletic's Justin Ray, it was the first time ever that a player had a round in the 40s and 20s in a U.S. Open.

And you can see the toll it took on Mitchell by the way his hair looked after removing his trademark visor.

As for the other big names, Scheffler had an atypical roller coaster of a round. Four bogeys and a double bogey, to go with four birdies for a two over 72. McIlroy bogeyed 18 to finish at one under, squarely in the hunt, considering the tough conditions limited scoring.

"I think with the conditions today, anything under par or anything around even par is a good score," he said after the round. "It was a day to really just keep yourself in the tournament and not shoot yourself out of it."

But former U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, who missed the cut at the PGA Championship, only to win a week later, has shockingly jumped out to a four-shot lead by going six under through 16 holes. A remarkable accomplishment, considering the difficulty of the course.

If there's one thing we know from major championship golf, though, it's that things can change quickly. And as Keith Mitchell's Thursday showed, expect the unexpected.

Canada's Ismaël Koné suffers horrific injury as Qatar's Assim Madibo gets red card for poor tackle

Canada’s 6-0 thrashing of Qatar in its second FIFA World Cup match would’ve been perfect on Thursday afternoon if not for an injury to Ismaël Koné that can only be described as horrifying.

Koné was carted off the field after a brutal tackle by Qatar’s Assim Madibo in the second half, which led to immediate displeasure from the Canadian players and coaches on the sideline. The tackle came from behind, and it was clear that Koné suffered something very serious.

As players huddled around Koné, replay showed the poor tackle by Madibo, with the Canadian's left leg bent at an angle not for the faint of heart.

WATCH THE WORLD CUP FINAL ON FOX ONE

Koné was in straight shock when the injury occurred, holding his leg at first and then placing his hands on his head.

After VAR review, referees upgraded Madibo’s foul to a red card, which marked the second for Qatar in the match after Homan Ahmed received one in the 33rd minute.

FOX ONE’S NEW WORLD CUP VIEWING EXPERIENCE

Madibo, though, did have his hands on his head, clearly distressed after seeing what occurred to Koné as players, coaches and medical staff surrounded the 24-year-old on the pitch.

A round of applause from the home country’s fans at BC Place in Vancouver poured down from the stands, as Koné was stretchered off the field. Based on the appearance of the injury, it’s more than likely his World Cup appearance for Canada has ended prematurely.

Nathan Saliba came in for Koné in the 57th minute, and he scored just seven minutes later. As a celebration, he raised Koné’s jersey to the loud roar of the fans, as the score moved to 4-0. Mohammed Manai knocked an own goal in during the 75th minute to add insult to injury for Qatar, but Canada’s takeover started with the man-advantage in the first half.

Jonathan David had a hat trick in this match, scoring in the 29th minute and stoppage time before the first half closed. Then, he scored in stoppage time again, this time in the 92nd minute to cap a fun afternoon aside from Koné’s injury.

Cyle Larin got the party started for Canada with a goal in the 16th minute as well.

After tying its first match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, this 6-0 domination was the country’s first-ever World Cup victory, which also earned them the top slot in Group B.

Switzerland’s 4-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday also gave them four points, with both teams determining who will win the group on June 24.

Top GOP lawmaker rallies around conservative school board member facing calls to resign

House GOP Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain, R-Mich., rebuked a school board in Richmond, Michigan, after some of its members tried to remove a conservative colleague for missing meetings while on military deployment to the Middle East.

Ray Stier, who received an American flag and a copy of the Congressional Record from McClain on Thursday as a commendation of his work, had been on deployment, attending board meetings remotely, but eventually lost virtual access.

That’s when the board called for his removal, citing a "disservice" caused by his absence.

"One of the board members’ family was taking to social media and putting out misinformation about myself and my wife and things that were not factually accurate and then ultimately calling for my resignation and prompting others to reach out to the district to call for my recall," Stier recounted.

PARENTS SAY THEY'RE RUNNING FOR LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS TO FIGHT 'POISONOUS' CRITICAL RACE THEORY

The moment is just the most recent clash between Republicans and school boards over policies that, in their view, are gatekeeping schools against diversity of thought and accountability.

"I think education is extremely important and vital," McClain told Fox News Digital.

"And educators and administrators need to teach children how to think, not what to think. It's about time that administrators begin to get held accountable for their actions. Good actions and bad actions."

McClain’s meeting with Stier comes on the heels of a congressional hearing last week where she grilled a superintendent from Virginia over student privacy policy, probing if those policies were being unevenly applied to favor transgender students.

VIRGINIA SCHOOL DISTRICT SLAPPED WITH COMPLAINT ALLEGING NEW CLAIMS IN VIRAL TRANS LOCKER ROOM FIGHT

"The victims got a 10-day suspension and the biological female that did the filming got a one-day suspension," McClain said, referring to an incident at Stone Bridge High School in Loudoun County where students had been reprimanded for filming in a locker room.

"How does that make sense?"

In Stier’s case, McClain questioned whether the board had targeted Stier on account of just his deployment overseas. Stierhad clashed with the board after learning that some of the district’s bathroom policies would have allowed fourth-grade students to use the same bathroom as transgender eighth-grade boys.

"Prior to him filling the seat, the seat was open for two months," McClain observed. So that logical argument doesn’t exactly make sense to me; it doesn’t really hold a lot of water."

MICHIGAN PARENT WANTS TRUMP TO ACT AFTER DAUGHTER SHARES LOCKER ROOM WITH TRANS-ATHLETE

For his own part, Stier believes his case will refocus attention on the importance of the school board and its membership.

"My goal is to continue being an advocate for the community. One of the good things that I think came out of this was that it got so much attention that some of the community members who were unaware of the dynamics that were not being brought to light," Stier said.

Minneapolis city council hear arguments in favor of legalizing adult bathhouses for LGBTQ community

The Minneapolis City Council received widespread support for repealing the longstanding ban on venues, such as bathhouses, ahead of an upcoming vote on Wednesday.

The council held its second public hearing regarding ordinances that would repeal the ban on venues where consenting adults can engage in sexual activity and provide new regulations regarding their business.

At the hearing, council members heard from over 30 residents on repealing the ban with several LGBTQ activists speaking in favor of ending the ban, which they claim targeted people in same-sex relationships and individuals with HIV and AIDS.

GALLUP POLL FINDS AMERICANS' SUPPORT FOR LGBTQ+ ISSUES SLIDING BACKWARD AMID CULTURAL SHIFT

"Our task is not to eliminate places where people have sex but bring people out of the shadows where we can give them the tools that we have in place. Research has shown that pushing sexual activity into less visible spaces does not eliminate the risk. It makes outreach and education more difficult," Aliveness Project researcher Jay Orne said at the hearing.

Another LGBTQ activist, Patrick Scully, spoke about living during the time of the original ban in 1988.

"I have lived most of my life criminalized and excluded by the system. Discrimination against me was legal until I was almost 40 years old in Minnesota. Sex was a crime in Minnesota until I was in my 50s. Marriage was not an option until I was in my 60s," Scully said. "So don’t expect me to live my life like you live your life if you’re a heterosexual. You forced me to find other ways to live my life."

Other speakers promoted the benefits repealing the ban could have on the tourism industry. Activists with the Safer Sex Spaces Coalition also argued that repealing the ban could help promote healthy practices and give LGBTQ communities a safe space for sex.

Though Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey did not consider the ban to be a top priority for his administration, he indicated to MPR News that he would sign a repeal if it were passed by the city council.

Fox News Digital reached out to the mayor's office for comment.

While LGBTQ+ advocates are pushing for the 1988 ordinance to be reversed, the first openly gay member of the Minneapolis City Council, Brian Coyle, helped pass the law, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported. The outlet noted that Coyle said at the time that many members of the LGBTQ+ community supported the ban. Coyle was diagnosed with HIV in 1986 but did not publicly acknowledge it until 1991, the same year that he died of AIDS-related complications at age 47, the Tribune reported.

GAY JOURNALIST SAYS LGBTQ MOVEMENT HAS GONE FROM CIVIL RIGHTS SUCCESS TO 'MADNESS'

Council Member Jason Chavez, the only out LGBTQ+ member of the council, pushed back on the idea that overturning the ban would be disrespecting Coyle's legacy.

"I have deep respect for Brian Coyle, and I know when he did this vote it was because of an epidemic that was impacting my community. But, at the same time, there were folks who supported the efforts to ban this because of homophobia. Because they did not believe in the existence of LGBTQ+ people, and that can not be removed from history," Chavez said.

The city council will hold a vote on the ordinance next week.

Man fired by firm after viral video shows him scolding dad for taking young daughters into women's restroom

An irate customer who went viral for scolding a father inside a gas station's women's restroom while he was helping his two young daughters has been fired by a Mississippi real estate firm.

In a social media post, the Starkville, Mississippi-based Overstreet Properties said it was aware of videos circulating online showing a man who worked as an independent contractor for the firm.

"The conduct depicted in the video does not reflect the values of Overstreet Properties or the standards we expect of those who represent our organization," the post stated. "Our focus remains on providing quality service to our clients, partners, and community."

The company added that it is no longer associated with the unidentified man, which was first reported by TMZ.

The video was captured by Tyler Brodsky, an Oklahoma dad traveling with his two daughters. Brodsky had stopped at a QuikTrip gas station in Alabama and took his daughters into the women's restroom. Moments later, the video shows a man yelling and demanding that Brodsky leave the facility.

"I knocked and announced that I'm coming in with two girls, which, at this time, the bathroom was empty," Brodsky recounted on "Fox & Friends First."

"This guy comes in, starts yelling, demanding that we need to leave, I should have taken them to the men's restroom, which I disagreed with," he added. "I've personally been in men's restrooms. I just didn't feel like it was a good place to take two little girls."

The man was seen standing in the doorway of the bathroom, scolding Brodsky as he helped his girls wash their hands. The bystander was also seen speaking into his own phone, explaining that his wife and "very ill" mother-in-law had reported a man being inside the women's restroom.

One of Brodsky's young daughters was seen crying as the ordeal continued. A QuikTrip manager eventually closed the door on the shouting bystander and apologized to Brodsky and the girls.

"It's a scary thing for little girls, so I tried to just do the best I could in the moment and keep them calm. But they're doing well now," Brodsky told "Fox & Friends First" co-host Todd Piro.

In a separate TikTok video, Brodsky noted that three police officers eventually arrived at the scene and assured him he had done nothing wrong.

Almost everyone had Colts star Sauce Gardner's birthday of years and now he's setting the record straight

You'd think that one of the easiest pieces of personal information to nail down on a pro athlete would be their birthday, but, for some reason, almost everyone has totally whiffed on Indianapolis Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner's birthday.

For years, a huge swath of the Internet, including Wikipedia (which of course gets things wrong all the time), ESPN, Pro Football Reference and The Athletic have all reportedly listed Gardner's birthday as Aug. 31, 2000, which would make him 25 years old.

However, the NFL star says he's not 25. He's 24.

"I’m 24!" Gardner said at Colts minicamp, per The Athletic. "It’s crazy that I’m even being asked this."

When asked if he was sure, he said yes and that if anyone needed further proof, they could ask his mom.

Of course, they could also check his ID, passport or any official documents since he entered the league because those all say he was born on Aug. 31, 2001, which would make him 24.

Yet somehow, most people have gotten this wrong for years, even "Madden."

"It’s wrong in Madden, too? That’s crazy because I never checked," Gardner said. "Because when it comes to the paperwork and everything I’ve signed, it all says ’01. So, I don’t know where or how it got messed up unless people just get it straight from Google."

This is wild.

I mean, it's not like it's a huge deal. He's not some 16-year-old trying to make people think he's 12 so he can play in the Little League World Series; parking blocks away from the field so no one knows he drove there and shaving between innings to maintain appearances.

It's just a goofy quirk that goes to show that even in the age of the Internet and AI, things are messed up all the time.

Even simple things like this.

Lindsey Vonn all smiles as she's able to return to dumping out actual workout content again

What a month it has been for Lindsey Vonn. She went from getting around with the help of crutches to wearing her first skin-tight dress in public, a major milestone in her recovery, to doing what she loves when she isn't skiing: sharing workout content.

The buildup to this moment has been weeks in the making. She was abs out at F1 earlier this month, just days out from putting the crutches down. She then, as mentioned, had her big moment in a dress for the first time in public.

Vonn's scars from destroying her leg in a horrific crash earlier this year were visible in the dress. She needed to cross that bridge in order to eventually get back to full strength. She would also need to cross the bridge to put in an actual workout in the gym.

ZERO BS. JUST DAKICH. TAKE THE DON’T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD. DOWNLOAD NOW!

That came this week, and the look on her face knowing that she would be able to slip into her form-fitting workout gear and post it on social media again says it all.

"The face I make when I can actually workout in the gym!" Vonn wrote. "Makes me so happy and excited I can’t even put it into words!"

This is vintage Lindsey Vonn. A devastating leg injury wasn't about to keep her from getting back to this. The wait is over, the content is back and all is right with the world once again.

We'll have to wait and see if the 41-year-old ever skis again. Back in March, she didn’t even want to entertain the idea of retirement. She'll quit the sport she loves when she damn well feels like it. Thank you very much.

The skiing legend, who avoided having her leg amputated, will for now continue to focus on her recovery and sweat-inducing gym content that has helped make her a legend off the slopes.

TSA sounds alarm after World Cup fans pack their bags with American staple

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is issuing a serious warning to international World Cup visitors: Don't pack ranch dressing in your carry-on luggage.

As the World Cup brings millions of international visitors to the United States, many fans are trying out American staples — and, apparently, rushing to take them back home with them.

One European wrote on X, "Why did no one tell me ranch sauce is like crack? EUROPE WE NEED RANCH ASAP."

AMERICANS WARNED POPULAR TRAVEL ROUTES THIS SUMMER COULD CARRY CRIME AND KIDNAPPING RISKS

The enthusiasm hasn't gone unnoticed by U.S. officials.

On June 16 on Instagram, the TSA alluded to international travelers transporting bottles of ranch salad dressing through airport security.

"If you’re visiting for a very large sporting event & you happen to discover RANCH while you’re here ... please pack it in your CHECKED BAG on the way home," the post read.

The post added, "Days since the last airport ranch incident: 0."

On X, the TSA issued a similar warning and shared a photo of assorted oversized liquids — including a bottle of ranch dressing — next to a sign reminding travelers of the agency's 3.4-ounce liquid rule.

Many Americans got a kick out of the TSA's ranch warning.

"We should tell them about Chick-fil-A sauce that you can buy in large bottles, too!" one person said.

"Powdered ranch, guys! Powdered ranch," another Instagram user said.

A third person said, "This is the most American thing I’ve read today! God Bless America."

Others were stunned that the ranch dressing wasn't available abroad.

"Ranch in Europe is rare?! Poor Europeans," one person said.

"Who's going to start the ranch pipeline to Europe? Instant business opportunity."

Fox News Digital reached out to the TSA for comment.

The ranch craze is just one example of how international visitors have embraced American culture during the World Cup.

Earlier this week, Norwegian soccer fans went viral for performing synchronized "Viking rows" on Boston escalators.

Emotional MLB broadcaster throws a fit over pitchers wearing Bible verses on hats during Pride Night

Longtime San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow is throwing a fit because a group of MLB players included Bible verses on their hats during Pride Night.

"I think when you’re a player and you come into this environment, it’s your responsibility to know just how sensitive this city is in regards to that cultural freedom and religious freedom, and just the way that you live your life," Krukow said on KNBR.

"And I think they were in for a rude awakening with the response, and it wasn’t just from the gay community; it was from the Northern California community that supports the gay community."

Krukow was referring to Giants pitchers Ryan Walker, Landen Roupp, JT Brubaker and Sam Hentges.

DIAMONDBACKS PITCHER RYAN THOMPSON DEFENDS GIANTS PLAYERS WHO WROTE BIBLE VERSES ON PRIDE NIGHT HATS

The broadcaster then defended the Giants organization, citing the franchise's long history of supporting the LGBTQ community.

"There’s an irony too because the Giants organization is getting dumped on as well, and that hurt me," Krukow added.

"It hurt me because I saw in 1994 that they were the first team to ever take on the challenge of going against public opinion and the outrage of even associating with the gay community, and they openly went out and said, ‘We support the gay community. We support until there’s a cure day. We are going to raise money to fight AIDS. We support the community.’ And they did it with love."

For the record, Krukow had no such issue when Colin Kaepernick disrespected the military community by kneeling during the national anthem in his city of San Francisco.

Elsewhere, MLB threatened to discipline San Francisco Giants players for inscribing Bible verses on their Pride hats. The league says the players' actions violated its uniform policy, which prohibits "writing of any kind" on uniforms.

"To be clear, this routine verbal warning not to wear the hat in future games is not disciplinary and had absolutely nothing to do with the content of the message," the league said in a statement. "We respect players’ right to free expression. However, writing of any kind, with any message, is prohibited per Major League Baseball’s uniform regulations, which provide in part that, ‘(a) player may not write, attach, affix, embroider or otherwise display nicknames or messages on apparel or playing equipment...’"

Of course, that is not exactly true. As OutKick reported earlier this week, MLB previously allowed political messages in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Of course, that is not exactly true. As OutKick reported earlier this week, MLB previously allowed political messages in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Put simply, as much as people like Mike Krukow might enjoy it, there is no reason for MLB to hold Pride Nights in 2026. And no player should have to participate in them. The league is grandstanding.

As Vice President JD Vance joked this week about MLB's warning to the Giants players who wore Bible verses on their hats.

"Trump won we don’t have to do this anymore" Vance posted on X.

We suspect Mike Krukow is about to throw another fit, this time over Vance's post.
